San Diego Community College District Overview Propositions S and N Construction Bond Program $1.555 billion construction bond program provides for 80+ projects at City, Mesa and Miramar Colleges, and six Continuing Education campuses:

City College Completed Projects
Learning Resource Center (LRC) Project Budget: $3.4 million Completion Date: August 2007 Renovation to convert approximately 15,000 SF of parking garage space into faculty offices, student classrooms and support space. First Propositions S and N project to obtain LEED certification.

Academic Success Center (L Building Renovation) Project Budget: $10.8 million Completion Date: April 2009 Complete, major renovation of two‐story building totaling 28,700 sq. ft. Serves as one‐stop shopping for all student services, including tutoring, assessment, advising, and other student support and student achievement programs.

P Building Renovation Project Budget: $11.3 million Completion Date: January 2010 Major interior and exterior renovation of two‐ story concrete gymnasium building. Renovated facility includes work‐out rooms, locker rooms, training areas, classrooms, faculty/staff areas, and enhanced parking and ADA accessibility.

Career Technology Center (CTC Project Budget: $69.1 million Construction Start: May 2008 Completion: June 2010 New five‐story 88,000 sq. ft. facility to house the Nursing, Cosmetology and Photography & Digital Arts programs. Includes classrooms, computer labs, medical simulation labs, and a gallery for student work. Also includes a 694‐ space parking structure and new headquarters for City College Police.

Arts & Humanities/Business Technology Bldgs. Project Budget: $89 million Expected Construction Start: September 2010 Targeted Completion: May 2012 Arts & Humanities will consist of approx. 70,000 sq. ft. to include new classrooms, a lecture hall, computer labs, studio space and a 100‐seat “black box theatre.” Business Technology will consist of approximately 40,000 sq. ft. to include “smart” classrooms, computer labs and areas for student start‐up businesses. The project also includes sublevel parking.

Math and Social Sciences Project Budget: $80.8 million (incl. land acquisition) Expected Construction Start: Oct. 2010 Targeted Completion: May 2012 Project involves land acquisition and construction of new 72,000 sq. ft. classroom and laboratory building. The facility will house the District's Corporate Education Center; four floors of academic classrooms and laboratories for Mathematics, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Nursing Education; and offices for the Military Education program. The project includes a six‐level parking structure with 400+ stalls.

Science Building Project Budget: $54.8 million Expected Construction Start: March 2011 Targeted Completion: November 2012 The Science building will consist of approximately 73,000 SF of new construction for the Science department, and will include new classrooms and labs for Life Sciences and Physical Sciences, and a new planetarium.

Mesa College Completed Projects
Allied Health Education & Training Facility Project Budget: $28.9 million Completion Date: August 2009 New three‐story, 50,000 square‐foot provides training facilities and classroom space for degree and certificate programs for five healthcare fields: Dental Assisting, Health Information Technology, Medical Assisting, Physical Therapy Assistant and Radiologic Technology. The project is currently tracking LEED Gold.
Mesa College Completed Projects
College Police Station Project Budget: $3.4 million (Part of $34.4 million East Campus Improvement Project)
Completion Date: July 2009 The 7,000 square‐foot station include a waiting area, offices, conference room, a secure suspect processing area, and a locker room area outfitted with daylight‐harvesting fixtures and waterless and low‐flow plumbing fixtures. Awarded LEED Gold.

Parking Structure Completion Date: March 2009 The new 1,100‐space, four‐level parking structure is part of East Campus Improvement Project that also includes a complete road realignment. Photovoltaic panels will be installed on the top level to harvest solar energy, offsetting the energy needs for the new police station and the new Allied Health building.

Athletic Facility Project Budget: $4.9 million Completion Date: January 2010 Renovation includes new artificial turf, an all‐weather synthetic track, an upper field event area, and ADA‐ compliant pedestrian ramp and restroom facilities. The renovation will also include retaining walls, concrete, fencing and utilities for athletic field events.

Mesa College Design Center Project Budget: $5.3 million Construction Start: May 2010 Targeted Completion: October 2010 This 28,000 GSF project involves the renovation of a former elementary school site to become the new home of Mesa’s Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Building Construction and Interior Design programs.

Student Services Building Project Budget: $55.7 million Expected Construction Start: Spring 2010 Targeted Completion: Spring 2012 The new four‐story, 85,000 gross square feet building will include new facilities for student services, including Admissions, Financial Aid, Evaluations and Testing, Counseling, Student Government, Disabled Student Services, and Information and Outreach. The facility will include classrooms, conference areas, a café, and a new express elevator between the lower parking lot and the upper campus.

Math & Science Building Project Budget: $117 million Expected Construction Start: February 2011 Targeted Completion: January 2013 New 200,000 GSF, four‐story building will have classrooms, lecture rooms, labs for scientific experiments, computer labs, and facility, staff and administrative support areas.

Hourglass Park Field House Project Budget: $27.7 million Completion Date: March 2009 Joint use project with the City of San Diego. Includes a gymnasium, fitness center, classrooms, dance rooms, lecture rooms, multi‐purpose areas and a concession stand. Third and final phase of a 32‐acre complex that includes an aquatics center and multi‐sport ball fields. LEED certified.

Arts & Humanities/Business & Mathematics Bldgs. Project Budget: $32.8 million Construction Start: April 2009 Targeted Completion: December 2010 Arts and Humanities will consist of approx. 45,000 sq. ft. of new space for the English, Visual Arts, Music, Speech and Foreign Language programs. Business and Mathematics will consist of approx. 45,000 sq. ft. of new classrooms, computer labs, a mathematics research center and related space for faculty and staff.

Library Learning Resource Center (LLRC) Project Budget: $37.4 million Construction Start: December 2009 Targeted Completion: Fall 2011 New three‐story, 100,000 square feet facility will include a new library, classrooms, computer labs, tutoring services, media production facility, and faculty and staff areas.

Automotive Career Instructional Building Project Budget: $4 million Estimated Construction Start: Feb 2010 Targeted Completion: September 2010 Addition of approx. 6,500 SF of new construction to add additional laboratory and classroom space and storage. Additionally, ADA upgrades and minor renovations will be performed on the existing building.

Police Station and Parking Structure Project Budget: $17.8 million Construction Start: May 2010 Targeted Completion: Spring 2012 Project provides new headquarters for Miramar’s College Police and also a new multi‐level parking structure. The Police Station is designed to obtain a LEED Platinum certification – the first for SDCCD.

Cafeteria/Bookstore and Student/Campus Center Project Budget: $33.2 million Estimated Construction Start: Spring 2011 Targeted Completion: Spring 2013 New three‐story facility will consist of approx. 45,000 SF of construction to house a new cafeteria, bookstore and student services center.

Heavy Duty Adv. Transportation Tech. Center Expansion Project Budget: $11.6 million Estimated Construction Start: Fall 2010 Targeted Completion: Fall 2011 Project will consist of approximately 14,000 SF of new building construction to support program expansion to diesel, natural gas, hybrid bus and transit technology and new developments in construction equipment technology.

Aviation Maintenance Technology Center Project Budget: $10.2 million Estimated Construction Start: Spring 2011 Targeted Completion: Spring 2012 Addition of approx. 6,500 SF of new construction to add additional laboratory and classroom space and storage. West City Campus Project Budget: $18,000,000 Completion Date: May 2009 A new, two‐story, 38,930 SF facility that serves as the Campus of Excellence for Hospitality and Consumer Sciences. It houses classrooms for Culinary Arts, Parenting, Sewing, Arts, Business Information Technology, English as a Second Language, and the Emeritus Program for students aged 55+. It includes a spacious multi‐purpose room that can serve as a classroom space or serve as a venue for performances or special events. Certified LEED Gold.
Continuing Education Completed Projects
Skills Center at the Educational Cultural Complex Project Budget: $31.6 million (incl. land acquisition) Completion Date: September 2009 New 52,600 SF facility is the Campus of Excellence for Career & Technical Education, and is the largest automotive technology training facility in the nation. It includes classrooms for Automotive Repair, Upholstery, Reprographics Services, and Business Information Technology. Includes SDG&E‐funded solar panel array. Just certified LEED Gold.

North City Campus and Parking Structure Project Budget: $50.7 million Expected Construction Start: May 2011 Targeted Completion: December 2012 The project includes land acquisition and construction of a new, two‐story, 40,500 GSF classroom building, and construction of a 300‐ space parking structure. It will be the Campus of Excellence for Multimedia and Innovation.

Cesar Chavez Center Project Budget: $49.8 million Expected Construction Start: May 2011 Targeted Completion: October 2012 This project consists of land acquisition and construction of a new 70,000 GSF building to consolidate the current programs at the Cesar Chavez and Centre City campuses. Includes classrooms, a small business incubator center, and underground parking with 154 spaces.

Linda Vista Campus at Mesa College Project Budget: $19.7 million Expected Construction Start: June 2011 Targeted Completion: April 2013 The new facility will help consolidate programs currently housed in temporary spaces. The new 38,000 GSF facility will include classrooms, an art lab, a parent‐child area, multipurpose room and a nutritional demonstration kitchenette.

Wing Expansion at Educational Cultural Complex Project Budget: $16.3 million Expected Construction Start: May 2011 Targeted Completion: August 2012 New 15,000 SF expansion to main building will replace bungalows, modular classrooms, labs and support rooms not connected to building. Allows for relocation of College Police and will create more efficient space for administration team.

Smart Design: Landscaping Water‐efficient landscaping uses reclaimed water, high‐efficiency irrigation and native and drought‐tolerant plants and trees. Natural and reintroduced vegetation also help with storm water management and pollutant removal.

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design LEED is an internationally recognized green building certification system, providing third‐ party verification that a building was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance across all the metrics that matter most: • • • • •
Energy savings Water efficiency Reduction of CO2 emissions Improved indoor environmental quality Stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.
