Chancellor Constance Carroll reported that efforts are still being made to make AB 302 (Berman) permissive rather than mandatory and that advocacy is being provided to provide funding for student housing at community colleges instead of parking for this purpose. Dr. Carroll also indicated that she and others are working with Senator Jerry Hill regarding new legislation for the community college baccalaureate. The Chancellor reported on student enrollment, noting that colleges have reached 87 percent of their fall target of 14,200 FTES. Despite challenges encountered with the new registration system, enrollment continues to increase on a daily basis. The colleges have made a significant effort to reach out and assist students through this adjustment period supported by broad communication, including demonstration videos, helpful hints, and weekly training sessions.
