PROPOSITIONS S & N FACILITIES - OCTOBER 2012 WELCOME TO FALL! To keep our Continuing Education community updated on campus construction, below you will find a status report on all current projects. We continue to have multiple projects under construction concurrently, and summer afforded us a great opportunity to accelerate construction.

NORTH CITY CAMPUS CLASSROOM BUILDING

SAN DIEGO CONTINUING EDUCATION MESA COLLEGE CAMPUS

We have hit the halfway point for our North City classroom building and remain on track for an April 2013 completion and occupancy in summer 2013. The majority of the site structural concrete work has been completed, and we are continuing with framing, and the mechanical, electrical and plumbing layout. This project has a number of unique sustainability features, including daylight sensors that automatically dim lights in response to available lighting, and a drywell to capture and filter stormwater runoff.

We are completing our new Clairemont/Linda Vista (San Diego Continuing Education Mesa College Campus) adult education campus this month, and will start the installation of FF&E in early November.

Faculty and staff will be fully moved in by mid-January. This is a very unique building from a sustainability perspective. The building uses a cutting-edge passive ventilation system that disengages the mechanical air conditioning system and automatically opens the windows when the weather is comfortable. High efficiency plumbing fixtures and mechanical systems are used throughout, and contribute to energy efficiency that exceeds state requirements by as much as 43%. The design also maximizes the use of natural daylighting to increase comfort for building users and reduce energy consumption.

The North City Campus Classroom Building is on track to obtain a LEED Gold certification and the San Diego Continuing Education Mesa College Campus is on track to obtain a LEED Silver certification.

ECC PHASE IIB WING EXPANSION We are nearly 2/3 complete on this project, and still on track for full completion by early June of next year. This project consists of an 18,135 square foot, two-story classroom wing, and a 5,327 square foot, single-story office addition. We are also renovating nearly 20,000 square feet in the existing ECC facility to provide office, counseling and teaching areas. We continue with drywall, insulation, ductwork and siding on the classroom building. At the administration building, much of the same activity is ongoing, plus installing the site concrete and landscaping boulders.

CÉSAR E. CHÁVEZ CAMPUS The Division of the State Architect (DSA) approved the design for the César E. Chávez Campus over the summer, and we are looking at advertising the initial bids in early 2013. As part of obtaining the necessary permits for this campus, we are required to provide parking for the site.

We are finalizing design details and expect to submit the design to DSA in January. If all goes as expected, we could start construction of the structure in September 2013. As you may recall, this project will allow us to consolidate programs currently provided by the existing Cesar Chavez and Centre City campuses, providing a new home for Allied Health, English as a Second Language, Adult Basic Education, General Education Diploma training, Business and Information Technology, Parent Education and Emeritus programs, and a Small Business Incubator.

ECC Phase IIB Wing Expansion and the César E. Chávez Campus are on track to obtain LEED Silver certifications.

COMING UP! Upon completion of the new administration building at Miramar College, the existing admin wing – the A-100 Building – will undergo a renovation to become the new home for all of the Continuing Education programs offered at Miramar. This is an ideal location for us, and will provide us with enhanced technology and adjacent parking. The design for the A-100 remodel is expected to be submitted to the Division of the State Architect (DSA) later this year.
