PROPOSITIONS S & N FACILITIES - MAY 2012 Getting ready for summer! To keep our Continuing Education community updated on campus construction, below you will find a status report on all current projects. We continue to have multiple projects under construction concurrently. With summer typically quieter, we can accelerate construction because there is less risk of disrupting instruction or campus activities. This ramp-up will make for some especially dramatic changes for our new campus facilities at the Mesa College Campus, set to complete in early fall. Continued thanks to all for your patience during construction activities. Thanks as well to faculty and staff participating in the FF&E process for our future projects. Your time and commitment is most sincerely appreciated. Bob Parker, Vice President of Administrative Services

North City Campus Classroom Building

We are just about П⁄И of the way complete on the classroom building component of our North City Campus. The parking structure for the campus has already been completed. We are due to complete the classroom building in spring of next year. The project consists of a two-story, approximately 43,000 square foot facility with “smart” classrooms, a multipurpose room and administrative support space. Over the summer, structural steel erection will continue, along with concrete placement. Roofing activities should start by the fall semester.

San Diego Continuing Education Mesa College Campus

We are nearly С⁄И complete for our new San Diego Continuing Education Mesa College Campus (formerly the Clairemont/Linda Vista adult education campus), and are looking to complete the facility this coming October. The 38,000 gross square foot facility will allow us to consolidate operations currently housed in multiple locations, and provide space for Disability Support Programs and Services (DSPS), Emeritus programs, and English as a Second Language. Over the summer, the mechanical, electrical and plumbing work will be finished and the interior will really come together.

The North City Campus Classroom Building and the San Diego Continuing Education Mesa College Campus are on track to obtain LEED Gold certifications. They will be two of six LEED-certified buildings for Continuing Education and our third and fourth Gold campuses.

ECC Phase IIB Wing Expansion

The ECC Phase IIB Wing Expansion is about 40% complete. ECC, phase I completes in December 2012 and phases II & III will complete concurrently in late May/early June. This project consists of an 18,135 square foot, two-story classroom wing, and a 5,327 square foot, singlestory office addition. We are also renovating nearly 20,000 square feet in the existing ECC facility to provide office, counseling and teaching areas. The classrooms and offices in the portable structures by the parking area will be relocated into the new expansion. Those vacated buildings will be removed and the space converted into a parking lot. Over the summer, roofing, framing, drywall and exterior plastering activities will take place, along with mechanical, electrical and plumbing work. The project is on track to obtain a LEED Silver certification.

César E. Chávez Campus We continue to await approval of the project by the Division of the State Architect (DSA), which is contingent upon a Coastal Development Permit. As you may recall, as part of obtaining this permit, we are required to provide parking for the site. A Request for Proposal (RFP) for the parking structure project was issued earlier this spring, and the contract awarded to PCL Construction and RJC Architects. The design for the César Chávez Parking Structure will start in June 2012 and we anticipate construction to begin June 2013. The new facility will allow for consolidation of programs currently provided by the existing César Chávez and Centre City campuses. The new building will provide 67,924 square feet for stateof-the-art classrooms for vocational training, English as a Second Language, Adult Basic Education, GED training, Business Information Technology, parent education and Emeritus programs, and a Small Business Incubator. The project is on track to obtain a LEED Silver certification.
