Project Description j p The three‐story, 50,000 square‐foot Allied Health Building will provide training facilities and classroom space for degree and certificate programs for five healthcare fields: Dental Assisting, Health Information Technology, Medical Assisting, Physical Therapy Assistant and Radiologic Technology. (The San Diego Workforce Partnership identified four of these fields as among the 10 most in‐demand fields through 2014.) The building is designed to obtain a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).

Sustainable Features Allied Health is designed to maximize the use of natural lighting, which in addition to reducing energy demands from artificial lighting, is shown to reduce eyestrain and increase productivity. All windows utilize ‘high performance’ glass that allows sunlight to filter into the building, but does not bring the associated solar heat with it. The walls are highly insulated, helping to conserve energy resources and making the building more comfortable by maintaining a healthy and uniform temperature maintaining a healthy and uniform temperature.
