Project Description The Miramar Aviation Maintenance Technology Center project provided for the major renovation of the existing 15,300 square feet building and the addition of 7,475 square feet. The project included retrofitting existing classrooms and lab spaces and the construction of new classroom spaces in order to accommodate new technologies key to preparing students for careers in Aviation Maintenance and Flight. The project is on track to obtain a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). The original building, built in 1971, was essentially reused, as were 95% of the building’s structural elements.
Sustainable Features • Existing lights in the main hanger remain and are now controlled by a daylight harvesting sensor (DHS), resulting in significant utility costs savings when combined with the addition of Solatube skylights • Installation of new cool roof on existing building reduces heat island effect • Water use reduction in building with low flow plumbing fixtures and drought‐tolerant landscaping • Utilize materials with high recycled content and low volatile organic compounds (VOCs) • Replacement of the 30‐year‐old mechanical infrastructure with modern, highly efficient, systems • New skylights and windows to provide daylight into existing building areas that had no access to natural light San Diego Community College District • 3375 Camino Del Rio South • San Diego, CA 92108 Phone: 619.338.6546 • Fax: 619.338.6509 • http://public.sdccdprops‐n.com/Pages/sdccd.aspx
