La Jolla, Bishop’s gridders sacked with losses BY DAVE THOMAS | VILLAGE NEWS
A pair of local scholastic football teams went down to defeat in action last weekend. La Jolla High ran into a tough Saints team, dropping a 45-7 decision last Friday night. La Jolla’s only score came on an 8-yard run by QB Zac Zlatic. According to La Jolla High head coach Rey Hernandez, Tyler Bassler did a good job returning kickoffs, breaking one for 45 yards and another for 65 yards. “Our top defensive efforts
came from Andy Jones, who made five tackles and recovered a fumble, and Pierce Poynter, who was also in on five tackles,” Hernandez said. “We need to improve in a number of areas. Our run blocking and pass protection have to improve, but my biggest concern is on the defensive side of the ball where we have given up 92 points in just three games.” La Jolla plays Santa Fe Christian this coming week, a team that has scored 169 points in

Superior Court Judge Timothy Anthony is scheduled to hear and rule over the future of the La Jolla Children’s Pool at Casa Beach on Friday, Nov. 13, according to attorney Norman Blumenthal. Blumenthal’s firm was involved in a move to turn the case from Yuri Hofmann, the previous judge presiding over the Children’s Pool cases, to Taylor, Blumenthal said. Blumenthal’s firm has represented the pro-seal camp in the past and is part of the team work-

It was like he had hit the wall and had no energy and was a little disoriented. He just wasn’t well.” “I was in trouble,” Hutcherson said. “I didn’t realize what was going on. I thought it was the

Hofmann recused himself from the case because he presided over previous cases related to the seal colony, according to Blumenthal. director was already known to former Globe artistic director Jack O’Brien from his work at the Williamstown Theatre Festival and the Huntington Theatre. San Diego theatergoers first became aware of him when he staged Shakespeare’s seldom-performed “Pericles, Prince of Tyre” during the 2003 Shakespeare festival. It was the summer’s big hit, and in 2004 Tresnjak was invited to head the festival. At a press conference announcing the 2005 Shakespeare festival and also the appointment of Jerry Patch as Globe artistic director, O’Brien remarked, “Darko brings the Shakespeare festival his intelligence and original vision. What
we’ve been missing is Jerry Patch.” Noted for his wry sense of humor, Patch remarked he’d heard of Shakespeare, having come from South Coast Repertory, and that he was glad Tresnjak was at the Globe to take care of Shakespeare for him. He intended to discover new plays and devote time to remounting old chestnuts or works that had not received a good first production in New York. Patch left for Manhattan Theatre Club in 2008.
