FROM THE FOUNDER

I don’t want to sound like a scratched vinyl record of years ago that just stays playing the same music repeatedly, but I am alarmed by the fact we still, as North Americans, are not doing everything we can to reduce chronic inflammation. We are focused on treating the diseases caused by it, but it is the culprit. It is the bedrock of disease and the robber of quality of life in both health and wealth.

It is termed chronic inflammation as it is persistent over a long period and consistently weakens every cell, organ and system in the body. It is why age-related diseases show up as you get older. It is not because of chronological age, but because over a longlasting period of time, unchecked chronic inflammation has not been addressed. In addition, lifestyle factors have not been aligned with anti-inflammatory choices rather than pro-inflammatory choices. No one intentionally makes pro-inflammatory choices. They are done mostly by being unaware, and of course, pro-inflammatory foods taste really good! I love a good doughnut with a cup of coffee. I just know that it is pro-inflammatory and I will not eat it!

A simple guide in food choices is to eliminate as many processed foods as possible and eat whole foods. Behold all those beautiful colors in the fruit and vegetable aisle of the grocery store! Try eliminating most of those nicely packaged and attractively boxed, bagged products in the middle of the store!

It is not only foods that fight inflammation but also the supplements that can be taken to support an anti-inflammatory lifestyle.

I am very enthused over the amazing TriVita products that help support putting out the fire of inflammation. And fire it is. I encourage you to think that way and in every way you can, douse the fire so as not to allow it to turn into a wildfire with its damaging and debilitating effects. When you take a daily dose, think daily “douse the fire.”

NOPALEA

Science shows it helps lower C-reactive protein, an important inflammatory marker. Nopalea improves mobility, flexibility and quality of life with less pain.

TRANS-RESVERATROL

It is known for its anti-inflammatory, anti-carcinogenic, anti-viral and antioxidant effects. Dr. Zampano says, “Think of it as a kind of Saran wrap for your cells.”1

OMEGA3 PRIME

Omega 3 fatty acids EPA and DHA are the very important anti-inflammatory nutrients to support joint, heart and brain health.

The silent thief, CHRONIC INFLAMMATION, makes us look and feel old. Fighting inflammation is the most important thing you can do to feel and look your best.

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

Bronwyn Ison

We are so excited you are here! As the newly appointed editor for the VitaJournal, I’m especially enthusiastic about your interest. At Trivita we aim to help you achieve greater wellness physically, emotionally and spiritually. The VitaJournal is an inspiring publication allowing you to stay connected to TriVita’s member community, as well as be educated on the dangers of chronic inflammation and how you can conquer it, engage with us as a community, learn about new products and enjoy educational articles by our many trusted, professional and reputable contributors. Overall, we are here to encourage, support and love you because we want to help you live with the quality of life you desire.

As a health and wellness advocate, helping others achieve their wellness desires gives me great joy and satisfaction and has for more than 20 years. We each have goals and living a well-rounded life may be what you are trying to achieve. Therefore, without a doubt, you are in the right place at the right time.

Important factors impacting your quality of life may include your family, health, safety, financial stability, mental well-being and environment. Each of these is vitally important and when we’re off balance we can feel the difference. I’ve learned my health is my wealth. There is nothing better than having the energy, strength and motivation to do the things I love to do. Without my health, my quality of life would suffer. I’m sure you can relate in one way or another.

Having a deep passion for wellness, I genuinely feel I have a responsibility to share with others how they can live healthy and prosperous lives. If you desire to live a plentiful life of wellness, positive lifestyle choices will be an essential role in your outcomes.

The dangers of chronic inflammation are real. Fortunately, consistent and positive lifestyle choices, including changes, all contribute to the prevention and management of chronic inflammation. Let’s take exercise and a healthy diet as an example. Whether I was swimming, running, hiking, walking, weight lifting or doing yoga, movement has been a physical form of medicine for me. In addition, eating healthy foods such as fruits, vegetables, healthy fats and protein sources are my natural medicine. Smart choices can make us feel good and energized.

If you enjoy spending time with family and getting out to do activities with them, having the energy to keep up is likely of value to you. God has blessed each of us with a temple, our body. How we treat our temple is our own choice. Today you can choose to live the pur poseful life God has designed for you. Make a healthy decision today because your health and life matter.

Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.” ~ Genesis 1:29 NIV

THE TRIVITA TRIFECTA TO CONQUER CHRONIC INFLAMMATION

When taking supplements, it is important to understand not only the individual benefits but also the potential interactions of taking supplements together. As a leader in reducing chronic inflammation for more than 20 years, TriVita has developed a trifecta of anti-inflammatory supplements designed to reduce the damaging causes and effects of chronic inflammation. Nopalea, Omega3 Prime and Trans-Resveratrol are safe when taken together and work synergistically to provide greater protection from the harmful effects of chronic inflammation than just one supplement alone. This trio, taken together, promotes a healthy inflammatory response.

THE BENEFITS OF TAKING NOPALEA, OMEGA3 PRIME AND TRANS-RESVERATROL TOGETHER INCLUDE:

• Helps to reduce elevated, at-risk levels of C-reactive protein, which is a marker for inflammation

• Assists with maximizing metabolic potential by improving insulin sensitivity as well as improved glucose and lipid metabolism (a healthy metabolism promotes a healthy inflammatory response)

• Aids in the reduction of oxidative stress, known as free radicals, which are recognized to cause inflammation

• Encourages reduction of harmful pathogens that can overwhelm the immune response which triggers inflammation

• Known to provide relief from chronic inflammatory symptoms like premature aging, brain fog, fatigue, pain and limited mobility

NOPALEA (take with or without food)

• Helps to improve joint mobility

• Helps to improve neck and back range of motion

• Known to help with increased flexibility

• Aids in reducing inflammation

• Assists to lower elevated at-risk levels of C-reactive protein1,2

• Less reliance on pain medication12

OMEGA3 PRIME (take with food)

• Cardioprotective properties or benefits: Fish oil helps to reduce incidences of life-threatening cardiovascular events3

• After a heart attack, high-dose fish oil supplementation has been known to improve the function of the heart, reduce scarring in the undamaged tissue within the heart muscle and decreased biomarkers for inflammation 4

• The supplementation of omega-3 fatty acids assists to reduce both inflammation and levels of anxiousness5 providing neuroprotective benefits.

• Known to reduce osteoarthritic pain in overweight and obese older adults.6 Supplementation with omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids for 3-4 months reduces joint pain intensity

• Assists in the reduction of triglycerides in people with hypertriglyceridemia7

TRANS-RESVERATROL (take with food)

• Resveratrol helps to improve left ventricular diastolic function and endothelial function, helps lower LDL-cholesterol levels and helps protect against unfavorable hemorheological changes measured in patients with coronary artery disease8

• Based on neuroprotective benefits found in vitro and in vivo animal data, it may be a therapeutic agent for neurodegenerative diseases11

• Helps to improve metabolic health for obese adults by mimicking the health effects of calorie restriction8

• Resveratrol is a naturally occurring phenol that is generated by plant species following injury or attack by bacterial and fungal pathogens9

• Resveratrol is a powerful antioxidant that helps to reduce oxidative stress and the harm it can cause10

ANTI-INFLAMMATORY WELLNESS REGIMEN

A trifecta of anti-inflammatory products working synergistically to help reduce chronic inflammation and keep you living with wellness.

NOPALEA

Nopalea is a delicious, nutrient-dense supplement drink made with the fruit of the prickly pear cactus. It’s brimming with antioxidants that support detoxification, healthy inflammation and whole-body wellness. Nopalea supports the normal and essential anti-inflammatory function performed by your immune system and can improve joint mobility, neck and back range of motion and flexibility.1

TRANS-RESVERATROL

Trans-resveratrol is widely reported, through clinical trials, to be beneficial to healthy living and has been shown to possess antioxidant, anticarcinogenic, antitumor, and estrogenic/antiestrogenic activity.2 Resveratrol has also been shown to have cardioprotective and neuroprotective benefits.3 Resveratrol can be helpful in many areas of our body by expanding blood vessels so that its powerful antioxidant can get to your heart, brain and body with its protective benefits.

OMEGA3 PRIME

Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA are among the most important brain, joint and heart-healthy nutrients. Several studies demonstrate the anti-inflammatory properties of omega-3 fatty acids and research suggests that omega-3s may help relieve joint discomfort and reduce symptoms associated with inflammation.4 Omega3 Prime fish oil is sourced from Peru’s fisheries which have been ranked as one of the best marine ecosystems in the world.

Anxiety and Stress

The Effects On Us and How We Can Bounce Back – Based on Science

Anxiety disorders and stress affect large numbers of people and can have a significant impact on our health. According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, 40 million adults in the United States are affected by an anxiety disorder each year.1 Having this condition can increase the risk of having heart disease 2,3 and may lead to poorer health outcomes in those with lung conditions.4 Yet in spite of this, less than half of the population seeks help for anxiety.5

Stress is another major issue in the US and in fact, it’s the highest it’s been in a long time. High-stress levels are fueled by the ongoing pandemic, rising prices and the constant stream of bad news that people are experiencing.6 Stress can affect the brain 7 and mental health.8

Read on to find out more about anxiety and stress, and what you can do to bounce back.

Anxiety and Its Effects

Key core features of anxiety are restlessness, fear and worry, and these can have a negative impact on your quality of life and physical health. When the anxiety becomes debilitating and starts interfering with your work or personal life, you might have an anxiety disorder.9 For example, if the anxiety impacts your ability to focus on your work or interferes with sleep, among other symptoms, this may indicate that a problem is present.

Anxiety is linked to and may arise from stress.10

Stress and Its Effects

Stress in and of itself can be defined as a feeling of being overwhelmed and is often tied to our

reactions or the way we respond to pressures or threatening situations.

When the stress is chronic or high, it can increase people’s risk for high blood pressure 11 and premature mortality.12 A study conducted by Anders Prior at Aarhus University has shown that stress is of particular concern for those already suffering from other illnesses. In fact, high stress in those with long-term health conditions was associated with deaths.12 Therefore, if you’re suffering from an illness, it is especially important to find ways to combat feelings of high tension.

When the stress goes unchecked, it can lead to other consequences. In animals, it has effects on parts of the brain, such as the prefrontal cortex.13 Stress can also affect the immune system, potentially making us more susceptible to physical illness.14

Bouncing Back and Seeking Help

It is important to know the signs of stress and anxiety, as well as their impact on us because knowledge is power. When we know the defining features of these signs and the effects they may have on our health, we can take steps to bounce back. Often the first step to bouncing back is recognizing that an issue may be present and seeking help.

If you’re experiencing debilitating anxiety or stress symptoms, you’re finding it hard to focus on your tasks, or you’re feeling irritable and can’t sleep, this could indicate that an issue may be present. If your well-being is affected, it is important to see a professional. There are also strategies you can practice yourself to feel better.

How to Overcome Anxiety and Stress

Physical Activity

One strategy which can have a substantial positive influence on your anxiety and stress levels is physical activity. Engaging in 30 minutes of physical activity, even just once a week, can be beneficial. Physical activity is not only good for the body and mind, but it can also improve the status of people affected by ill health. According to science, women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer (at age 55 or over), and who engage in high levels of physical activity tend to have improved survival.15 Exercise is something that can help you feel better, even when you are going through a more challenging time.

Humor

Something else which can help, especially when it comes to stress, is turning to humor. Life can become burdensome and there are times when we find it difficult to keep up. When we turn to humor – whether it’s a funny sitcom or reading a few jokes – we get a bit of “psychological” distance or respite from the problem at hand, even if it’s just for a few moments. Humor can help us feel better and we often start seeing the stressful situation more clearly.16

Back to the Present

And finally, another way of tackling stress or anxiety is focusing on the present moment and doing breathing exercises. Letting go of all thoughts and turning to that oasis of peace found in meditation and quiet breathing. Taking care of yourself and being kind to yourself is important, especially when you’re going through a tough time. The saying, there is no health without mental health, couldn’t ring truer.

WeCARE Care and Prayer Helpline

Circumstances beyond our control can be difficult to manage on our own. Change can cause stress that takes a toll on our physical, emotional and spiritual health. Every so often we need a trusted source to empower us in the constantly changing world in which we live. As a TriVita Premier Member, you have access to WeCARE, a care and support helpline, which focuses on Christianbased guidance, support and prayer. WeCARE is a Premier Member benefit and a complimentary, confidential service, created for you to speak with a licensed minister when it matters most. WeCARE can be used for numerous reasons. You may be in a difficult situation and don’t know

A typical WeCARE visit will be this simple:

what to do. You need someone to listen to and support you. Once the WeCARE Minister gets all the necessary details, clarifying questions can be asked. These are designed to help the member understand their best options. After the options have been defined, efforts to empower the member with faith, hope, prayer and clear action for meaningful change are agreed upon. The diversity and significance of the difficulties will be discussed until the member concludes that their WeCARE experience was successful. Our goal is for every member to be inspired to do their best and are confident to move in a positive direction with their life.

1. You request an appointment by visiting TriVita.com/WeCARE

2. An appointment is scheduled at your convenience

3. You are connected with a TriVita minister to talk about whatever is troubling you.

12 VITAJOURNAL TRIVITA.COM

WeCARE Ministers are providing support for TriVita Premier Members with a variety of life circumstances. Transitioning seems to be an area where many of our members need assistance. These transitions may be in a wide variety of needs, including but not limited to, a loss of a loved one, a sickness, moving, change of a job, divorce and world events. While we all experience transition throughout our lives, these changes often reveal our true character. James 1:3-4 says, “For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.” While change is not always easy, it is common, and God has given us the strength and resources to overcome it in every stage of life.

The only thing more difficult than going through a difficult situation is feeling alone in it. Too often we do not recognize that we can get out of the house and connect with the community. The power of free will to choose is God’s greatest gift given to humanity. What we think about, expands. If we have negative thoughts, we will get negative outcomes. WeCARE Ministers are trained to

actively listen and help members to identify what is happening and make the best choices. By doing this, the members recognize the power of their own free will to choose something better. Sometimes we all just need someone to talk to, listen to what we have to say and allow another person to comfort us. We get overwhelmed by the circumstances we are facing. We may even feel that God let us down. The good news is that WeCARE is just a phone call away. A WeCARE Minister may ask a member, “What is a relationship without trust?” While many people let us down, God promises to never let us down, but we must nurture a relationship with God through trust. John 14:13-14 says, “You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!” During times of difficulty, it is all too easy to lose trust in God. While we believe in our faith to live eternally with God in Heaven as a benefit of receiving Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, many do not recognize the other benefits of salvation in our everyday lives. A WeCARE minister is there to help members recognize the promises of God and restore trust in God to perform them.

A Good Quality of Life Requires a Healthy Immune System

Understanding the immune system can help benefit overall health as we learn how the immune system deals with bacteria and viruses. Additionally, learning what activities, foods and supplements positively influence the immune system is beneficial to overall health and well-being.

What is the immune system?

The immune system is spread throughout the body and is focused in certain key organs. It works as a whole-body system as its primary function is to patrol the entire body. The immune system can trigger inflammation, however, not all inflammation is bad. If you get a paper cut, inflam mation is part of the healing process as it’s an organized immune response. Inflammation becomes a bad thing when it no longer has an organized response. This is referred to as a cytokine storm.

What causes inflammation to get out of control? There are many reasons why this can happen, but some of the most common include stress, extra fat tissue and leaky gut. The body has one trillion immune cells and making sure they remain balanced is key when dealing with inflammation. A balanced immune system is healthy, strong and creates an organized immune response.

Food for thought

About 70 percent of the immune system lies in the gut and small and large intestines. That’s why good gut health means good immune health. It’s important to look at what foods to avoid and examine healthy alternatives for favorite additives.

Probiotic foods are great for supporting the immune system and the beneficial bacteria in probiotics are found in the gut. One of the more prominent foods that offer probiotics is yogurt, but if you have a dairy intolerance then yogurt should be avoided. An alternative would be fermented foods as they are generally high in probiotics. Other beneficial foods include oatmeal that contains prebiotics, and green foods like cabbage and avocado. Blueberries, sweet potatoes and green tea are other great examples of foods that contain the nutrients the immune system needs to thrive.

If you think about diet as a whole, then you can incorporate beneficial nutrients and foods into your diet plan. Make an individualized diet based on body type. Juicing is a great way to get a lot of nutrition density if you struggle with incorporating certain foods in your meals. Consider avoiding gluten and white sugar and add foods

14 VITAJOURNAL TRIVITA.COM

that are concentrated with immune-boosting molecules, vitamins and minerals.

Changing your diet can be hard, so don’t worry about incorporating all these foods in your diet at once. Think about one food you might want to remove from your diet and one food you want to add as a starting point. If you can make one dietary change today, you’ll have made a benefit to your immune health. Keep optimizing your diet plan to develop foods that are best for your immune system.

Activities for an active immune system

There are three important foundations to immune health. What you eat, how much you move and how well you sleep. The three main types of physical activities include cardiovascular activity, strength training and gentle movement. Each of these activity types influences and benefits our immune system in different ways. It’s essential to incorporate these three activities into a weekly regimen for not only a healthy lifestyle, but a healthy immune response.

Aerobic activity or cardiovascular activity has been shown to boost the immune system. Other activities like yoga and Tai Chi work to lower stress hormones. Another activity (requiring no movement) that benefits our immune health and our overall health is good quality sleep. Make sure to get a good night’s sleep, especially for adequate energy levels.

Supplements for immune health

Supplements can be used to help balance the immune system by helping to lower inflammation and for stress relief. Vitamin C is found in foods and is an essential nutrient. It’s essential because our bodies can’t make it. If we can’t get enough from diet, then supplementation should be considered. Another supplement to consider is zinc because it’s difficult to get from food, but it plays an important role in regulating the immune response. Herbs are also key for the immune system and can be taken in supplements. Herbs such as astragalus, echinacea and reishi have been shown to benefit the immune system. Other beneficial supplements for the immune system include Vitamin D, B vitamins (specifically B-12), CBD, curcumin and glutathione.

Remember, supplements must be individualized. Some individuals may need a lot of vitamin D, some may need very little, and some may need nothing at all. Talk to your healthcare provider and they can help you come up with a plan that’s right for you.

With all this in mind, you can help keep your immune system thriving at any age.

author bio:

Taking part in activities that reduce stress is important for the immune system to thrive. This could include taking a nap, riding a bike, going for a walk, enjoying nature, etc. Combining activities that also act as a stress reliever is a two-in-one benefit. We all have different body types, and this applies to physical activity choices. So, find an activity or workout plan that works best for you. And remember, it’s important to keep stress low.

Meet Bonnie!

Hello Trivita Members! My name is Bonnie, I am a wife and mother. I was born in Beaufort, South Carolina, was a Marine Corps brat, and was raised in Northeast Ohio. I moved to the Valley of the Sun, Phoenix, Arizona, in the summer of 2012 with my family. I have held many positions over the years including retail management, travel agent, home health aide, and massage therapist, and I know, the Lord led me to TriVita more than 8 years ago to serve our members with their health and wellness needs, desires and goals. I have a heart for helping others and feel that desire grow stronger as time marches on. I not only help our members find the best supplements for their lives but also rely on some of them, such as our famous Nopalea. I have been taking it regularly for nearly as long as I have been working here! I would not be without Nopalea because it helps me manage the pain and inflammation in my back and neck due to osteoarthritis and car accidents. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to be involved in our members’ daily lives, to make such a significant impact and not take it for granted. God Bless and thank you from the bottom of my heart.

10 HABITS FOR A HEALTHY LIFE

What kind of habits do you have? Are you thinking, saying and implementing positive daily behaviors that promote a good and healthy life?

A habit is a learned behavior that becomes reflexive over time. For example, you may drink a cup of coffee in the morning followed by brushing your teeth as part of your routine. This would be considered a habit. There is a myth that you can form a habit in 21 days, but recent studies say it can take anywhere from 18 to 254 days for a person to form a new habit and an average of 66 days for a new behavior to become automatic.1

Healthy habits promote health and wellness in your life - like exercising, a healthy diet, getting plenty of sleep, taking the right vitamins and supplements and socializing with friends and family.

HERE ARE 10 HABITS FOR A HEALTHIER LIFESTYLE:

1. Eat breakfast every day

Get at least 30 minutes of exercise most days

Drink plenty of water

Eat more fruits and vegetables

Limit saturated fats and added sugars

Don’t smoke tobacco products

Limit alcohol consumption

Get 7-9 hours of good sleep each night

Take deep breaths to relieve stress and anxiety

Take supplements to complement your healthy diet

Take stock in your daily routine and consider if you are practicing healthy habits every day. If not, today is a great time to start. Positive habits and lifestyle changes can give you overall wellness and happiness and a life worth living.

Angels Among Us

TriVita member Mary Deemy is one of God’s angels living here on earth. Mary recently turned 76 years young and is a long-time foster parent who, in her words, “has a heart for drug-addicted preemies.” That means the babies are born premature and addicted to drugs. These beautiful infants need love and care. Enter Mary Deemy from Waxahachie, Texas. When I first approached Mary with my idea of sharing her story with our TriVita members, her immediate response was, “only if you give all the glory to God.”

Mary and her husband Dan got married at 21 and had three children of their own by age 26. They desired to have a big family with as many as 10 children. It was at this point in time that Mary heard about foster care and, because she was a stay-at-home mom who loved children, she decided to give it a try. It was the early 1970s and Mary had no training in being a foster parent, she just loved children. Her first venture into foster care was taking in three young boys who had been terribly neglected and abused. She never received any background information on any of the babies and therefore didn’t know what they had been through in their short lives. Despite their backgrounds, Mary continued to foster 25 more babies and adopted three of them.

Mary and her family moved from state to state which included Illinois, Kansas, Wisconsin and finally Texas. Despite all the moving, it never stopped Mary from sharing her love to care for children who were in need.

Even with all the children running around, Mary and Dan’s house was considered a party house on the weekends where there was drinking and smoking. Although Mary grew up Catholic and attended mass regularly, she had not found the Lord in her heart yet. She attended some Bible Study classes and “Life in the Spirit” seminars. Her new Baptist friends in Texas were pushing her in the right direction, but she wasn’t quite there yet. In her mind, being Catholic meant she could party, but her Baptist friends couldn’t. She believed it was different strokes for different folks. Her eyes and soul would soon be opened.

Dan traveled for work and occasionally would be gone overnight. When this was the case, Mary would have trouble sleeping. One night when Dan was gone, she thought she heard a noise downstairs. She was scared and instinctively reached for something. What she picked up was a Bible that she had never even opened. Her thumb landed on the page of Galatians 5:19, “The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery… I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.” It also talks about “the fruit of the Spirit as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” This happened to her three more times. Each time the Bible opened to Galatians 5. She knew this was a sign. She knelt next to her bed and prayed, “If you’re really real, I want you to come into my heart.” Then she recited a “sinner’s prayer” she learned from some of the Baptist girls. Mary laid down on the

There are 24 VITAJOURNAL TRIVITA.COM

bed and felt at peace. She said it felt like cool air all around her and she was glued to the bed. She couldn’t move. She soon found the passage in Philippians 4:6-7, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” She quickly fell into a peaceful sleep.

When she woke up and went downstairs, she said it felt like “I was walking on air.” She fed the kids, played with them for a while and then tucked them all in for a nap. Her head was still spinning from the previous night’s episode so she made herself a drink to relax. It tasted horrible, like turpentine. She lit a cigarette and that too tasted horrible. She threw the butt away and walked outside. Everything looked different. “It was like a movie,” she said, “everything was gorgeous!” At that moment she knew, “It was God. It was Jesus.”

With God in her heart, Mary now realized her calling. In Texas, she took in two more children with neglected backgrounds. These two were her first drugaddicted children. Mary was able to give them the medical help they needed and with love and attention, she nursed them back to health. Later, each of them was adopted into other families’ homes. They are 21 and 22 years- old now. Over the years, Mary has fostered 58 drug-addicted babies. She even makes clothes for them with matching bows and bracelets. The 58th child Mary fostered was a little boy, onemonth-old, who had five broken bones and two brain bleeds. The horrible, tragic irony of this situation was

that Mary had to bring this battered little boy to child protective services (CPS) each week to see his parents. That’s the law. Mary cared for the boy for 16 months until he was recently adopted.

Mary credits TriVita for keeping her healthy to do God’s work. She has been a TriVita member for more than 20 years and has 225-lifetime orders…and counting. Around 22 years ago, when Mary first moved to Texas, she visited a doctor who informed her that she had the beginning stages of osteoporosis. A friend told her about TriVita’s Bone Growth Factor. All these years later, when she goes to the doctor, her osteoporosis has not progressed. Mary has since added Super B-12, Essential D and VisionGuard to her monthly order. She’s convinced TriVita products are key in keeping her healthy. When Mary calls TriVita and speaks to a CARE agent, she always asks the agent for their name, which she adds to her prayer list. Her prayer list has grown to over 800 names. As I said, Mary is an angel on earth.

Despite her huge heart for helping others, Mary has experienced a lot of emotional pain in her life. Recently, her grandson passed away from a drug overdose. Mary says,” that’s why I keep doing this.” Drug abuse is a huge problem in our society. Mary considers what she does ‘her Ministry.’ “I’m doing what God called me to do,” Mary says. We need a million more Mary’s.

Of course, Mary doesn’t want any credit or accolades. “All the glory belongs to God!” We are so proud to have her as a TriVita member. God Bless Mary Deemy.

How Nitric Oxide Helpswith Healthy Circulation

e know that healthy circulation is important, but what we may not know is what to consume to help promote healthy circulation and blood flow. In terms of blood vessel health, nitric oxide is one of the most important molecules in the body. While nitric oxide itself may not be an ingredient to consume, some nutrients promote nitric oxide production. This is important because as we age, nitric oxide production decreases. We may feel this through lack of energy, high blood pressure and even cognitive decline. One study found that by age 70, most people will only produce 25% of nitric oxide through their blood vessels as compared to someone in their 20s.1 Since aging is considered one of the biggest risk factors for developing cardiovascularrelated health issues, it’s been found that cardiovascular protection decreases with age and a reduction in nitric oxide production.1

Additionally, Alzheimer’s disease has also been linked to nitric oxide decline.1 One out of every eight baby boomers will get Alzheimer’s disease after they turn 65 years old; at age 85, that risk grows to one in two.1 This is why healthy circulation and blood flow are so important. We want to be able to give our aging selves the best chance to live life to the fullest, and with more information at our fingertips than ever before, we have the tools to flourish as we age.

Luckily for us, supplements are an exceptional tool to help the body create nitric oxide, which can also trickle down to help other areas of health. Supplements that support nitric oxide production can typically contain beetroot powder, L-Arginine, L-Arginine Alpha-Ketoglutarate, and L-Citrulline. These can be found in Nitric Oxide Plus. We’ll dive into the benefits of the ingredients in this powder supplement and how it can help the body produce nitric oxide and promote blood flow, later.

What is Nitric Oxide?

Think of nitric oxide as a messenger. It’s an essential messenger molecule that serves important vascular, as well as metabolic functions.2 It allows for blood, nutrients and oxygen to travel throughout the body effectively and efficiently.

The Benefits of Healthy Blood Flow

High blood pressure occurs when the force of your blood pushing against the walls of your arteries is consistently too high. High blood pressure can lead to other health issues, such as heart problems and kidney problems. Consuming nitrates can help blood pressure because your body converts the nitrates to nitric oxide, which then causes blood vessels to relax and dilate, resulting in lower blood pressure. Various studies have shown nitrate to help lower blood pressure by increasing the production of nitric oxide.1,2 Additionally, it has been thought people with high blood pressure have an impaired ability to produce nitric oxide.3

Nitrates are also thought to promote endurance, and some studies suggest that endurance among athletes improved with nitrate consumption. One study found this through the consumption of beetroot juice.4,5 Nitric oxide can also be important for cognition, as it was found that a high-nitrate diet increased regional cerebral blood flow to the frontal lobe in older patients.6

When you hear of nitric oxide, you may be thinking of it as a gas. The gas form is called nitrous oxide and is sometimes referred to as “laughing gas.” That’s not what we’re talking about here. Nitric oxide’s function in the human body is crucial as it’s found naturally throughout the body and is necessary for healthy blood flow. So, how is nitric oxide formed and where can it be found? Nitric oxide is synthesized and released into the endothelial cells, which is a cell layer lining all blood vessels, with the help of nitric oxide synthases that convert arginine into citrulline which helps produce nitric oxide in the process.7 L-citrulline may also help to treat erectile dysfunction by increasing the production of nitric oxide.8 A form of L-citrulline, called citrulline malate, not only increases nitric oxide production but also can help decrease muscle soreness. One study analyzed 13 eligible articles that included a total of 206 participants. The most frequent dosage used in the studies was 8g of citrulline malate. Citrulline supplementation significantly reduced the rating of perceived exertion and muscle soreness 24 hours and 48 hours after post-exercise.9

As muscle soreness can get in the way of daily activities, looking at ingredients to help soothe symptoms can help us get back to pursuing our day-to-day interests.

you can see, increased blood flow serves as a link to other areas of health, helping to promote balance and well-being in the body.

Sources to Promote Nitric Oxide Production

Did you know you produce nitric oxide by simply breathing? When breathing through your nose, your nasal passages release nitric oxide, which helps to widen blood vessels. This can help improve oxygen circulation in your body. Since nitric oxide is an unstable molecule that can degrade quickly in the bloodstream, it needs to be replenished.1 This can be done through consuming antioxidants, which is how antioxidation influences nitric oxide production. Besides breathing and antioxidants, beets are high in nitrates, which as previously mentioned, convert into nitric oxide. L-arginine is an amino acid, also known as a protein building block, naturally found in a variety of foods such as red meat, fish and dairy products. L-arginine produces nitric oxide in the body, as well as L-citrulline. L-citrulline is also an amino acid that’s found in meat and legumes. The easiest way to get these nutrients to help produce nitric oxide–besides food–is with supplements.

A Proprietary Combination of Ingredients to Improve Blood Flow

Nitric Oxide Plus improves blood flow through these ingredients: beetroot powder, L-Arginine, L-Arginine Alpha-Ketoglutarate and L-Citrulline. Beetroot powder is rich in nitrates which get converted to nitrite, which then gets converted to nitric oxide. L-Arginine is an amino acid that stimulates the dilation of blood vessels and nitric oxide production. L-Citrulline, another amino acid, has been indicated to be a second nitric oxide donor since it can be converted to L-arginine in the kidneys.2 Magnesium relaxes muscles to allow better blood flow. Magnesium is a mineral that can be found in greens, nuts, seeds, dry beans, whole grains, wheat germ, wheat and oat bran. Horse chestnut is commonly used to improve vein health, as it contains aescin, which may increase blood flow in veins and thin the blood.3 A supplement that can help support nitric oxide is important, and with our latest formulation, we want to be able to give you the convenience of a powder supplement for healthy blood flow support.
