Let Your Smart Speaker Do the Talking

Smart speakers are getting smarter. With a few simple commands you can stream SDPB Radio live, hear the latest news, or even listen to an hour of Morning Edition. The three most popular smart devices are the Amazon Echo (“Alexa”), Google Home, and Siri.

To listen to SDPB Radio on your smart speaker, say the wake-up phrase – “Alexa,” “OK Google,” or “Hey Siri” then make your request. “Alexa, play NPR” will get your Amazon device to wake up and ask if you want to listen to SDPB or another public radio station within the broadcast area. (Hint: the right answer is “SDPB.”)

If you enable NPR One on your device you can also make that request, e.g. “OK Google, talk to NPR One.” You may also access an on-demand version of the latest hour of SDPB’s Morning Edition broadcast, complete with local content. “Alexa, play Morning Edition.” We’re just a shout away.
