Golden Eagle Quick Hits First Team All-Conference UMC outside hitter Brittany Looker (Jr., Rochester, Minn./Health Science) became just the second player in school history, along with Joan Ebnet, to be named All-NSIC First Team. Looker has been named to the All-NSIC team each of her three seasons in the Maroon and Gold. She was an All-NSIC Second Team pick as a sophomore and an All-NSIC Honorable Selection as a freshman. She is the first player in Coach Lee Anderson’s seven years to earn All-NSIC First Team honors. Looker has been a force this season at her outside hitter position, averaging 3.91 kills per set and 2.84 digs per set. Looker’s kill mark currently ranks in sixth on the season in the NSIC this season. She has improved by over a kill per set from last season after averaging 2.69 kills per set as a sophomore. Looker has 12 double-doubles this season and has tallied 20 or more kills on four occasions including in league play against nationall ranked Wayne State College (Neb.), University of Mary and Upper Iowa University. This Is The Time! It all comes down to this weekend on whether the Golden Eagles will advance to the NSIC Tournament. The Golden Eagles are currently in a tie for eighth place with MSU Moorhead and Minnesota State. Minnesota Crookston will be battling for the final two spots along with Wayne State, Sioux Falls, MSU Moorhead, Minnesota State, St. Cloud State, Minot State and Winona State. A big determinant in the Golden Eagles’ fate could be decided with Friday’s match against Winona State, as it would go along way in improving UMC’s chances at getting in. If their is a tie, the first determinant to break the tiebreaker will be record against the team that UMC is tied against (as long as they have played two games), if not it gets broken down into a point rating system. It should be a fun weekend to see where the Golden Eagles end up. If they do get in, they would play the No. 1 and No. 2 seed in the conference at their site on Wed., Nov. 20. Moving On Up This could be a big weekend for Brittany Looker (Jr., OH, Rochester, Minn.) as she has a good chance to surpass the 1,000 kills mark in her career this weekend, as she is just 22 kills away from the mark. Looker’s All-Conference First Team caliber season has moved her up the charts in a lot of categories this season. She is ranked sixth all-time in kills with 978, needing just 21 kills to move past Amber Meyer in fifth. Looker is slotted tied for eighth all-time in career service aces with 95, needing just nine to move past Jamie Wolff in seventh place. In addition, she needs just 14 points to move past Meyer in fifth for that category, as well, and needs just 26 digs to break into the top 10 and move past Cassie Yates. Senior Class The University of Minnesota Crookston volleyball senior class has been integral the past four seasons in moving the program forward. The group Golden Eagles has done something that four years ago seemed unlikely, after the team went 0-28, in that they have put their team in contention for the conference tournament in the country’s premier NCAA Division II volleyball conference. The Golden Eagles senior class has won 36 matches in their last three seasons, has been part of an NCAA record 37-point set against Augustana and set the NCAA record for most points in a three-point set, as well.

Head Coach Lee Anderson Coach Lee Anderson has been with the University of Minnesota, Crookston Golden Eagle Volleyball program since 2007 and is entering his 12th season as a head coach at the collegiate level. In those five seasons at the helm of UMC, Anderson has helped the UMC Volleyball program make great strides. In 2011, Anderson took a team that was winless with an 0-28 record and guided them to a record of 12-18, the best an Anderson-coached team has had at UMC. A highlight of the 2011 season was defeating Minnesota State University, Mankato, a team that was ranked 13th in the nation at the time. The Golden Eagles finished 11th in the league with a young squad. The next season, the Golden Eagles put together another solid season with an 11-16 (7-13 NSIC) mark as they again finished 11th in the league. The Golden Eagles will look to improve on the last two seasons as they return five-of-six starters and have six seniors on the 2013 squad. Prior to his appointment at UMC, Anderson served as the head volleyball coach at Glenville State College in Glenville, W.V. for two seasons (2005-06). In 2005, the Pioneers had a record of 3-28. Anderson turned the 2006 season around, finishing with a record of 10-17. The team set a new school record for conference wins in a season. The team also had one player named 2nd team All-Conference, one named Honorable Mention and three freshmen made the All-Freshmen team. “We are excited to have Lee join the UMC athletics staff and campus community, says Athletics Director Stephanie Helgeson. “His enthusiasm and experience will be a tremendous fit for our volleyball program. We are very impressed by the passion and commitment Lee brings to our athletic program and Golden Eagle Volleyball.” A native of Renfrew (Ontario), Canada, Anderson also served as the assistant women’s volleyball coach at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Mich. During Anderson’s tenure as assistant coach, the Bulldogs compiled a record of 41-21 (.661), including a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference (GLIAC) Tournament Championship in 2004 and a trip to the NCAA Regional Tournament. He served as head coach for three seasons (2000-03) at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario. At Lakehead, Anderson had a 13-38 (.342) overall record in the Ontario University Athletics East Division during his three seasons at the helm, including a fifth place finish in 2002-03. He also directed volleyball sport development camps and organized department media conferences during his tenure. In addition to his coaching duties, Anderson served as a practical instructor in the school’s Kinesiology Department. Besides his collegiate coaching experience, Anderson has also coached various midget, youth and high school teams since earning a Bachelor of Science degree in human kinetics from the University of Ottawa (Ontario) in 1998. His previous head coaching positions included Henry Wisewood High School (1999) in Calgary, Ottawa’s Immaculata High School (1995-98) along with both the Northwestern Ontario Under-18 (2002) and Under-17 (2001-02) development teams. In 2000, Anderson earned his masters degree in kinesiology with a specialization in the art and science of coaching from the University of Calgary.
