Golden Eagle Quick Hits Can’t Stop Looker UMC outside hitter Brittany Looker (Jr., OH, Rochester, Minn./Health Sciences) is having her strongest season as a Golden Eagle in 2013 as she is averaging 3.70 kills per set and 2.75 digs per set. Looker has tallied three matches with 20 or more kills this season and has 10 double-doubles this season. Looker is coming off one of her strongest weekends this season as she had 20 kills in a 3-1 win against U-Mary and nine kills against Minot State in a 3-0 win for an average of 4.14 kills per set. On A Roll The Golden Eagles have won five of their last six matches dating back to Oct. 5 when they defeated Minnesota State University, Mankato. The Golden Eagles were 1-5 in the NSIC at that point and quickly turned the tide on the season to now sit at 6-6 and in a tie for seventh place. The next eight matches will be crucial for the Golden Eagles as they fight to stay in the top eight, as the top eight teams advance to the NSIC Championship. Climbing Up The Charts In addition, Looker is moving up the record books for the Golden Eagles as she surpassed former teammate Amanda Swann to move into seventh all-time for kills as she currently has 884 career kills. Looker needs 44 kills to move past Katie Carlson in sixth place all-time. The record for all-time kills is 1,276 by Allison Kluck from 2001-04. Looker currently needs 393 kills to move past Kluck which isn’t out of the possibility. To put that in persepctive, Looker has 270 kills this year with eight matches left and still has her entire senior year left at UMC. Looker also surpassed the 1,000 point-mark over the weekend, becoming the seventh player to tally 1,000 points in a career and currently ranking seventh all-time in career points. She needs 4.5 points to surpass Swann for sixth place. Filling In The University of Minnesota Crookston has developed strong depth in the 2013 team, as was evidenced Tuesday against Bemidji State. Injuries forced Maggie Perrel (Fr., RS, New Germany, Minn./Biology) to miss the match while Alyssa Schneider (Sr., MH/RS, Racine, Wis./Elementary Education) went down with an injury in the first set. In their absence, Erin Schwarz (Fr., MH, Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Stephanie Pearson (So., OH, Frankfort, Ill.) stepped up. Pearson had the best match of her two-year career with 11 kills, 11 digs and four blocks while Schwarz added five kills and four blocks off the bench in the 3-1 win over the Beavers. Trust In Trost UMC freshman setter Sierra Trost (Fr., Ham Lake, Minn./Biology) has made a lot of progress through her first season in the Maroon and Gold and is coming off a strong weekend against U-Mary and Minot State, averaging 10.7 assists per set including 46 assists against U-Mary in a fourset match. Trost comes in averaging 9.63 assists per set this season. Trost has tallied nine matches with over 40 assists including two over 50 with 56 against St. Cloud State University Sept. 21 and 55 against Upper Iowa University Sept. 27. She is coming off 42 assists Tuesday versus Bemidji State.

Head Coach Lee Anderson Coach Lee Anderson has been with the University of Minnesota, Crookston Golden Eagle Volleyball program since 2007 and is entering his 12th season as a head coach at the collegiate level. In those five seasons at the helm of UMC, Anderson has helped the UMC Volleyball program make great strides. In 2011, Anderson took a team that was winless with an 0-28 record and guided them to a record of 12-18, the best an Anderson-coached team has had at UMC. A highlight of the 2011 season was defeating Minnesota State University, Mankato, a team that was ranked 13th in the nation at the time. The Golden Eagles finished 11th in the league with a young squad. The next season, the Golden Eagles put together another solid season with an 11-16 (7-13 NSIC) mark as they again finished 11th in the league. The Golden Eagles will look to improve on the last two seasons as they return five-of-six starters and have six seniors on the 2013 squad. Prior to his appointment at UMC, Anderson served as the head volleyball coach at Glenville State College in Glenville, W.V. for two seasons (2005-06). In 2005, the Pioneers had a record of 3-28. Anderson turned the 2006 season around, finishing with a record of 10-17. The team set a new school record for conference wins in a season. The team also had one player named 2nd team All-Conference, one named Honorable Mention and three freshmen made the All-Freshmen team. “We are excited to have Lee join the UMC athletics staff and campus community, says Athletics Director Stephanie Helgeson. “His enthusiasm and experience will be a tremendous fit for our volleyball program. We are very impressed by the passion and commitment Lee brings to our athletic program and Golden Eagle Volleyball.” A native of Renfrew (Ontario), Canada, Anderson also served as the assistant women’s volleyball coach at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Mich. During Anderson’s tenure as assistant coach, the Bulldogs compiled a record of 41-21 (.661), including a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference (GLIAC) Tournament Championship in 2004 and a trip to the NCAA Regional Tournament. He served as head coach for three seasons (2000-03) at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario. At Lakehead, Anderson had a 13-38 (.342) overall record in the Ontario University Athletics East Division during his three seasons at the helm, including a fifth place finish in 2002-03. He also directed volleyball sport development camps and organized department media conferences during his tenure. In addition to his coaching duties, Anderson served as a practical instructor in the school’s Kinesiology Department. Besides his collegiate coaching experience, Anderson has also coached various midget, youth and high school teams since earning a Bachelor of Science degree in human kinetics from the University of Ottawa (Ontario) in 1998. His previous head coaching positions included Henry Wisewood High School (1999) in Calgary, Ottawa’s Immaculata High School (1995-98) along with both the Northwestern Ontario Under-18 (2002) and Under-17 (2001-02) development teams. In 2000, Anderson earned his masters degree in kinesiology with a specialization in the art and science of coaching from the University of Calgary.
