#Playerstowatch

This week here are three players to watch out for as the Golden Eagles face-off with No. 24 Winona State. Talo Pascal, a junior running back from Arlington, Texas, has had a slow start thus far but is due for a breakout game for the Golden Eagles. Junior corner back Robert Gausi earned his first career start last weekend and had a strong game and should be one to watch for. Preseason All-Conference player Andrew “Rock” Hall has been hampered by an injury early on but should continue to improve and see more time at linebacker.

Minnesota Crookston Football Mike Fritze Head Football Coach

Game 3

Mike Fritze was named Interim Head Coach in the summer of 2013 and was elevated to full-time Head Coach following the conclusion of the 2013 season. Fritze led the Golden Eagles to a 2-9 mark. In his first season for the Golden Eagles, Fritze helped lead the team to wins in their rivalry games, defeating Bemidji State University in the “Hub Cap Game” and upending Minnesota State Moorhead in the “Red River Valley Showdown sponsored by State Farm Insurance.” Heading into his second season in the Red River Valley in 2014, Fritze and his staff have put in an added emphasis on the local area, bringing in over 20 players from the states of Minnesota and North Dakota to lead a recruiting class of near 50 players the Golden Eagles brought in to help boost UMC’s roster size and talent. Long-time Minnesota high school head coach Mike Fritze was hired to serve as the team’s defensive coordinator under long-time friend Paul Miller in 2013 after retiring from teaching and high school coaching after the conclusion of the 2012 season.

Fritze Resume 2013 - Pr. - Head Football Coach Minnesota Crookston 1994 - 2012 - Head Football Coach Apple Valley High School 1981 - 1994 - Assistant Football Coach Apple Valley High School State Championships in Minnesota 1986, 1993 as Assistant Coach Helped Lead Apple Valley H.S. to State Tournament in 2012 for football

Fritze had coached for a combined 103 consecutive seasons in three sports (football, boys basketball and track and field) prior to his arrival at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. He spent the last 18 seasons as the head football coach at Apple Valley High School in Apple Valley, Minn. Fritze succeeded current UMC head coach Paul Miller as the head coach at Apple Valley in 1995. Fritze first arrived at Apple Valley High School in 1981 after five years coaching high school in Wisconsin. He served as an assistant for Coach Miller’s 1986 and 1993 state championship teams before taking over as head coach. Coach Miller came back to serve as Fritze’s offensive coordinator in 2008. In 2012, Fritze helped lead Apple Valley to an 8-3 record and their first state playoff berth since 1993 when they won the state championship under Coach Miller. Fritze was head boys basketball coach for six seasons, leading the Eagles to the state tournament twice. Fritze will spend time living in both Crookston and in the Twin Cities with his wife Kris.
