THE LAST TWO WEEKs IN GOLDEN EAGLE ATHLETICS - The University of Minnesota Crookston women’s basketball team picked up a 104-84 win over Bemidji State University to open up NSIC play last weekend. The Golden Eagles are 4-1 overall on the season. UMC was led by an oustanding performance from Alexa Thielman (So., G, Buffalo, Minn./Health Science), who finished with 30 points, inclduing shooting six-of-six from beyond the arc. In addition to Thielman, Ebony Livingston (Jr., G/F, Minneapolis, Minn./Sports and Rec Management) finished with 21 points. The conference opening win marks the first time the UMC women’s team has opened the conference season with a win since the 2008-09 campaign. - The UMC hunt seat equestrian team earned a first place finish Sat., Nov. 23 and a second place finish Sun., Nov. 24 in a pair of home shows at the University Teaching and Outreach Center in Crookston, Minn. The Golden Eagles were led by Sam Kramer (Jr., Corcoran, Minn./Animal Science) who earned High Point Rider on Sunday after picking up wins in Novice Equitation Over Fences and Novice Equitation on the Flat. - The UMC volleyball team finished the 2013 season with a 15-14 mark, their best record in their seven seasons under the leadership of Head Coach Lee Anderson. The Golden Eagles earned the eighth-seed in the conference tournament after a big season in which they finished 10-10 in the best Division II volleyball conference in the country. The Golden Eagles had Brittany Looker (So., OH, Rochester, Minn./Health Science) recognized on the All-NSIC First Team. Looker is only the second player in school history to earn First Team honors along with Joan Ebnet. Looker also surpassed 1,000 kills late in the season, becoming the fifth player to do so. - The Golden Eagle football team finished Interim Head Coach Mike Fritze’s first season at the helm with a 2-9 mark overall. Minnesota Crookston had two players recognized as all conference as Andrew Hall (Jr., LB, Detroit, Mich./Criminal Justice) earned All-NSIC North Second Team honors and Tevin Kellum (Sr., DB, Detroit, Mich./Criminal Justice) was named All-NSIC North Honorable Mention. - The University of Minnesota Crookston women’s soccer team was one of 864 collegiate soccer teams (271 men and 593 women) who earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for maintaining a 3.0 grade point average or above for the 2012-13 academic year. The Golden Eagles mainatined a 3.17 grade point average. - The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) announced All-Academic teams for the 2013 fall athletic season Friday. The Golden Eagles had 20 student-athletes honored this season from the football, volleyball and soccer teams. The volleyball and soccer teams each had seven individuals recognized while the football team had six individuals earn the distinction. Minnesota Crookston’s total for the fall of 20 student-athletes is up from 17 last fall. - The University of Minnesota Crookston men’s basketball team fell 78-63 to the Bemidji State men’s team to open up the NSIC season. The Golden Eagles are 3-2 so far through the first five games of the 2013-14 campaign. Minnesota Crookston has been led by a pair of seniors so far this year. Ashton Harrell (G, Houston, Texas/Sports and Rec Management) is averaging 13.2 points per game while Brandon Burns (Sr., F, Baton Rouge, La./Sports and Rec Management) is averaging 13.0 points per contest.
