Top UMC Players

The Hubcap at Home in Crookston • The University of Minnesota Crookston snapped a 14-game losing streak against rival Bemidji State University to capture the “Hubcap Trophy” for the first-time in the trophy’s 11 years of existence. The trophy signifies the location of the two schools on U.S. Highway 2, just 88 miles apart. UMC used a gritty performance using defensive stops and a safety by Tyler Hansen (Jr., DB/P, Morris, Minn./Natural Resources) and Mychal Traylor (Fr., DB, Cerritos, Calif./Management) at the end of the game to defeat the Beavers 16-14

Offense

Bent Don’t Break • The University of Minnesota Crookston defense did a great job of the “bend, don’t break” defense last weekend against Bemidji State. The Golden Eagles gave up 298 yards rushing and 317 yards overall but played big where it mattered as they came up with two stops in the red zone as Drew Selvestra (So., DL, Eagan, Minn./Criminal Justice) forced a fumble at the one yard line and the Golden Eagles stopped a fourth-down attempt by BSU at the two-yard line. In addition, the Golden Eagles turned BSU over, forcing three fumbles and had a blocked punt and a safety, both forced by Tyler Hansen (Jr., DB/P, Morris, Minn./Natural Resources)

Defense Sr. LB 8 Ricky Jacobs 40 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss Sr. DB 4 Tevin Kellum 41 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, one interception Jr. LB 22 Brody Davidson 36 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, two sacks So. DL 99 A.J. Wallace 15 tackles, one tackle for loss Jr. DL 41 Greg Lofquist 21 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, one sack

Punt Return Defense • The Golden Eagles have the 9th-best punt return defense squad in the country coming into Saturday. UMC has limited opponents to 1.0 yards per punt return this year. Part of the reason the punt squad has been so strong has been the improvement of Tyler Hansen (Jr., DB/P, Morris Minn./Natural Resources), who took over punting duties early this season. Hansen had a career-long 73 yard punt, which placed fourth all-time in school history, two weekends ago. Hansen is averaging 36.5 yards per punt and has six punts downed inside the 20-yard line. Hansen was crucial against BSU last week, especially on his last punt, which pinned the Beavers at the three-yard line late, which eventually forced a safety, which Hansen also was credited with, along with Mychal Traylor (Fr., DB, Cerritos, Calif./Management). Running For Records • UMC senior running back Keith McBride (Sr., RB, Lodi, Wis./Management) is ethcing his name in the record books for his career as he currently ranks fifth all-time at UMC for rushing yards with 2,056 yards and needs just 234 rushing yards to move past Derrick Sanders in fourth place. In addition, McBride is third all-time in rushing attempts with 508. He needs just 36 carries to move past Richard Haley in second place. In addition, McBride ranks fourth all-time for rushing touchdowns with 15 and needs just two to move past Derrick Sanders in third place. Forcing Turnovers • The University of Minnesota Crookston defense has done a phenomenal job of forcing turnovers this season, especially with fumbles as they are currently first in the nation with number of fumbles recovered which currently stands at 11. 11 different players have recovered fumbles this season. Last weekend against Bemidji State, the Golden Eagles forced three turnovers in the wet and muddy conditions at Ed Widseth Field. UMC currently ranks 27th nationally for turnover margin and 18th
