Golden Eagle Quick Hits Rematch In a rarity, the Golden Eagles will be done playing their travel partner, Bemidji State University, by Dec. 20. Minnesota Crookston plays two games each season against the Beavers and has already played Bemidji State at home Nov. 30 and will now play the Beavers on the road Dec. 20. The Golden Eagles fell to Bemidji State at Lysaker Gymnasium 78-63 and will now get a chance to even up the series at 1-1 as they play BSU at BSU Gymnasium at 8 p.m. Fri., Dec. 20. Senior Leadership Seniors Ashton Harrell (G, Houston, Texas/Sports and Rec Management) and Brandon Burns (F, Baton Rouge, La./Sports and Rec Management) have been what makes the engine run for the Golden Eagles this season. With the success of Harrell and Burns, the Golden Eagles have also seemed to go so far this season. In UMC’s four wins this season, Harrell is averaging 18.8 points per game. In their five losses, the senior guard is averaging just 12.2 points per contest. His fellow senior Burns is averaging 16.8 points per game in UMC’s four wins, while he is averaging just 7.4 points per game in their five losses. Finding success for Harrell and Burns will be a big factor as they head to Bemidji State University this weekend. First Career Start 28-year old junior college transfer John Hughes (So., F, Tualatin, Ore./Management) made his first career start as a Golden Eagle against MSU Moorhead last Saturday and had a solid game for UMC. Hughes had nine points, four rebounds and three steals in 20 minutes. Hughes has been an energy boost for the Golden Eagles this season with his demeanor on and off the court. He is averaging 4.0 points and 4.1 rebounds in an average of 14.2 minutes per game this season. Dishing It Out Junior point guard Kevin Larson (New Ulm, Minn./Sports and Rec Management) has been a great leader from his position so far this season, after transferring from Iowa Lakes Community College. Larson is averaging 4.4 assists per game this season. He had a huge game with seven assists in the win against Minnesota Duluth. Larson added 10 points in that game, for perhaps his best game so far in the Golden Eagle uniform. Against St. Cloud State, Larson had five assists and he also had five assists against MSU Moorhead last Saturday. Larson is averaging 5.3 assists per game in the last four contests for the Golden Eagles.
