Golden Eagle Quick Hits Seeing Redd Derrick Redd (Jr., G, Menifee, Calif/Sports and Rec Management) continues to be one of UMC’s go-to players in the absence of Ashton Harrell (Sr., G, Houston, Texas/Sports and Rec Management), who is out for the remainder of the season with an injury. Since Jan. 3, Redd is averaging 11.6 points per game. Redd had one of his best weekends of the year last weekend as he tallied 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting Friday and 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting Saturday. Redd’s 23 points tied his career high previously set Jan. 18 against MSU Moorhead. Redd has scored over 20 points three times this season.
Improvement UMC has seen substantial improvement from several young players this year that set the should set the team up nicely moving into the future. In addition to Redd’s improvement, which has seen him improve his points per game average by over eight points per game from last season, UMC has seen growth in several other player. One of those players is transfer Giorgi Koguashvili (Jr., G, Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia/Ag Business), who still has one year of eligibility remaining. Koguashvili has improved his production by nearly three points a game in the last month after tallying games with 18 points against U-Mary and 15 points against U-Mary and Minnesota State. The Golden Eagles will also return starting experience in Tyler West, Jr. (Jr., F, Portland, Ore./ Communications), who has been one of the team’s most productive players, along with John Hughes (So., F, Tualatin, Ore./Management), a high energy player. Forward Alec Koepp (Fr., F, Belle Plaine, Minn./Software Engineering) has also provided high energy moments for the team off the bench. Shooter Tim Lubke (Jr., G, St. Paul, Minn./Sports and Rec Management) and post player Tomas Parker (Jr., C, Pequot Lakes, Minn./Management) have also shown improvement as juniors.
Mr. Burns Brandon Burns has had a solid ending to his career at UMC over the last few weeks as he is currently averaging 11.0 points per game over the last five games including an 18-point performance in the team’s previous meeting against Minnesota State University. Burns has had his ups and downs but has been one of UMC’s go-to players when he is on. His season high of 26 points came early in the season against Jamestown College. He has also tallied 21 points on two occasions. Burns has also improved in the rebounding department, capturing his first double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 boards last Friday against St. Cloud State University.
