Golden Eagle Quick Hits D.J. Picking Things Up Derrick Redd (So., G, Menifee, Calif./Sports and Rec Management) has picked things up as of late for the Golden Eagles in the absence of leading scorer Ashton Harrell (Sr., G, Houston, Texas/Sports and Rec Management). Redd is coming off a season-high 23 point performance on 9-of-12 shooting against MSU Moorhead last Saturday. Since Harrell’s injury before the new year, Redd is averaging 10.8 points per game. Redd tallied 14 points against Winona State University Jan. 4 and had 12 aganst Upper Iowa University Jan. 3. He has started the last five games for the Golden Eagles.
First 30 minutes The University of Minnesota Crookston put up strong showings in the first 30 minutes of the games last weekend against Northern State University and Minnesota State University Moorhead, but it would be the final 10 minutes that would lead to the losses. The Golden Eagles were down by just eight with 10:03 remaining against Northern State, but a 20-5 run to end the game in the final 10 minutes would widen the gap to 23 at 72-49 at the conclusion of the contest. Saturday’s game held much of the same story. The Golden Eagles were down just 10 with 10:14 remaining, but a 26-12 run to conclude the game in the final 10 minutes would deliver an 87-63 win for the Dragons.
Koepp Earns First Start Alec Koepp (Fr., F/C, Belle Plaine, Minn./Software Engineering) who had previously been sparingly used, earned his first career start against Minnesota State University Moorhead Saturday after the energy he brought off the bench Friday versus Northern State University. Koepp has appeared in nine games this season. The most he played was against Northern State, with 11 minutes played with two points and one rebound.
Shooting The Rock Sharp shooter Tim Lubke (Jr., G, St. Paul, Minn./Sports and Rec Management) has had a bigger impact on the games in recent showings for the Golden Eagles. Lubke averaged nine points off the bench for UMC last weekend in games against MSU Moorhead and Northern State. The junior is averaging 10 points per game in the last three for Minnesota Crookston. He is shooting 50 percent from the field in those games and is also shooting 7-of-14 for 50 percent from three-point range in the last three games. Lubke is currently averaging 5.7 points per game, before the Jan. 11 game against Augustana College, Lubke is averaging just 4.7 points per game.
