Golden Eagle Quick Hits NSIC Player of the Week The University of Minnesota Crookston was honored for the first time this season by the NSIC as Katrina Moenkedick (So., F, Perham, Minn./Early Childhood Education) was selected as the NSIC Player of the Week after averaging a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds in two crucial wins over Winona State University and Upper Iowa University. She recorded a double-double in an 80-69 win over Upper Iowa Friday as she poured in a career-high 30 points with 11 rebounds on the night. Moenkedick was also huge defensively as she had six steals against the Peacocks. She went 10-of-16 from the field and was 10-of-13 from the charity stripe. Saturday against Winona State, Moenkedick added a near double-double of 12 points and nine rebounds as the Golden Eagles picked up huge win against the Warriors 71-58. Moenkedick went 4-of-11 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. On the weekend she finished the weekend shooting 51.8 percent from the field and 82.3 percent from the charity stripe. Stepping Up The Golden Eagles got added contributions this weekend from several players who stepped it up. Ebony Livingston (So., G/F, Minneapolis, Minn./Sports and Rec Management) averaged 13 points per game in UMC’s two wins last weekend, while Selina Barnes (Fr., G, Colorado Springs, Colo./ Health Science) was a spark off the bench for six points a game and Christine Thorn (So., G, St. Michael, Minn./Elementary Education) also provided a spark with nine points in the win against Winona State. The Golden Eagles will need similar production from these players moving forward. Starting Off The New Year Right The Golden Eagles had a great start to the 2014 calendar year as they picked up a sweep over Winona State University and Upper Iowa University last weekend in a pair of home games. The Golden Eagles look poised to snap their five game losing skid, shooting 49.2 percent from the field in an 80-69 win over the Peacocks, while they shot 46.6 percent with eight made threes in a 71-58 win over the Warriors Saturday. The Golden Eagles enter the weekend in a three-way tie for sixth place in the NSIC North after the solid home weekend. Looking To Stop Their Road Woes The Golden Eagles have only played three road games this season, but have struggled overall, with an 0-3 mark entering this weekend’s games against Wayne State and Augustana. UMC fell 74-71 to Northern State University, 77-60 to Minnesota State University Moorhead and 75-66 to Bemidji State University.
