Golden Eagle Quick Hits Rematch In a rarity, the Golden Eagles will be done playing their travel partner, Bemidji State University, by Dec. 20. Minnesota Crookston plays two games each season against the Beavers and has already played Bemidji State at home Nov. 30 and will now play the Beavers on the road Dec. 20. The Golden Eagles defeated Bemidji State 104-84 at Lysaker Gymnasium to open up the NSIC season in what was perhaps UMC’s strongest game so far of the season. The Golden Eagles were led in the win by a career-high 30 points from Alexa Thielman (So., G, Buffalo, Minn./Health Science) while Ebony Livingston (Jr., G, Minneapolis, Minn./Sports and Rec Management) added 21 points. The Golden Eagles hit 13 treys in the game, led by six from Thielman, who was perfect 6-for-6 on the game. McRoberts Coming On Erika McRoberts (So., F, Byron, Minn./Health Science) has really started to come on as of late for the Golden Eagles. McRoberts has started the last three games for the Golden Eagles and is averaging 8.8 points and 4.8 rebounds in the last four games for Minnesota Crookston. McRoberts played a limited role for the Golden Eagles in the first five games of the season but has seen her playing time increase as she has found success on the court. McRoberts comes into the BSU game averaging 5.9 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. BSU/UMC Connections The connections between the UMC and BSU connections are very strong. BSU coach Mike Curfman is the former head coach of the UMC women’s basketball team while UMC head coach Mike Roysland is a member of the Hall of Fame at Bemidji State. In addition, BSU assistant coach Mark Bagaason is in the Hall of Fame at Minnesota Crookston. Also, BSU senior center Kate Warmack’s brother Jim Warmack just signed to play men’s basketball for the Golden Eagles. Three-Point Shooting Minnesota Crookston has been a tremendous three-point shooting team so far this season as they are currently second in the NSIC for three-point shooting percentage with 41.0. The Golden Eagles hit 13 threes against BSU the first time around and had 15 treys versus Finlandia University. Thielman leads the team shooting a remarkable 55.6 percent from three so far this season. Teammate Ashley Martell (Jr., G, Somerset, Wis./Health Science) comes in shooting 46.4 percent while Livingston is connecting on 36.8 percent of her shots.
