Golden Eagle Quick Hits Beating Top Competition The Golden Eagles are coming off perhaps their biggest win of the season by upending Minot State University, the No. 2 team in the NSIC North, 74-62 last Saturday at Lysaker Gymnasium. Minnesota Crookston put together a huge first half ending it with a 23-2 run against the Beavers to help propel them past their competition. The Golden Eagles were led in the game by 23 points from Alexa Thielman (So., G, Buffalo, Minn./Health Science), while Katrina Moenkedick (So., F, Perham, Minn./Early Childhood Education) had a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds. Cienna Walker (Jr., G, Ajax, Ontario/Marketing) added 12 points and six rebounds. WBCA Pink Zone UMC will host their WBCA Pink Zone game, raising money for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and raising awareness for breast cancer research, Friday night against Concordia-St. Paul. Home Sweet Home The Golden Eagles have had a good go of things at Lysaker Gymnasium this season with a record of 8-5 in their home arena in Crookston, Minn. Minnesota Crookston has come away with major wins over Minot State University, Minnesota State University Moorhead, Winona State University, Upper Iowa University and Bemidji State University at Lysaker Gymnasium this season. The Golden Eagles will look to finish things off with a bang as they face two tough competitiors in the form of Concordia University, St. Paul and No. 21 Minnesota State University this weekend. Senior Day UMC will honor just one senior for senior day this year as Jacy Christenson (Sr., G, Shoreview, Minn./Natural Resources) plays her final game for the Golden Eagles. Christenson, a two-sport leader has been a solid leader for UMC off and on the floor for four seasons. Christenson also competes as a member of the women’s golf team. Breakout Game Megan Taylor (R-Fr., C, Estelline, S.D./Animal Science) has made strides in her first season playing for the Golden Eagles after redshirting last year, but she has made no bigger strides than her performance against Minot State with eight points, five rebounds and two blocks in the big win over the Beavers. Taylor has showed her major potential in years to come.
