Golden Eagle Quick Hits Seeing Redd Derrick Redd (Jr., G, Menifee, Calif/Sports and Rec Management) continues to one of UMC’s goto players in the absence of Ashton Harrell (Sr., G, Houston, Texas/Sports and Rec Management), who is out for the remainder of the season with an injury. Since Jan. 3, Redd is averaging 11.4 poings per game. He is coming off a 20-point performance on 6-of-10 shooting, including going 3-of-4 from beyond the arc in a loss to Soutwest Minnesota State University. In the first 10 games of the season, Redd averaged just 7.4 points per contest.
Georgia On My Mind This isn’t the Georgia in the Southern United States we speak of, this is the Republic of Georgia in Europe, the home country of Giorgi Koguashvili (Jr., G, Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia/Ag Business) who has played an added role for the Golde nEagles in the last five games for Minnesota Crookston. Koguashvili is averaging 8.8 points per game after averaging just 3.1 points per contest in the first 10 games he played in this season. He is coming off an 18-point performance against University of Mary Jan. 25.
Snapping The Skid The Golden Eagles are still trying to snap their 13-game losing streak in NSIC play, as they last won in league play Dec. 6 in an 87-85 win over University of Minnesota Duluth. The Golden Eagles came close against University of Sioux Falls, even getting a chance to knot things up from the charity stripe with two seconds remaining, but UMC would ultimately fall short 75-73. Minnesota Crookston will try to snap the skid against University of Mary and Minot State University this weekend.
Winding Down His Career Brandon Burns (Sr., F, Baton Rouge, La./Sports and Rec Management) is closing in on his final game at Lysaker Gymnasium. Burns is down to just four games at the friendly confines in Crookston, Minn. The senior has played solid as of late, averaging 11.8 points per game in the last four for the Golden Eagles. Burns will look to continue his performance as UMC takes on University of Mary and Minot State University this weekend.

Head Coach Mike Roysland Mike Roysland enters his eighth year leading the University of Minnesota Crookston women’s basketball team heading into the 2014-15season. Roysland has accumulated 65 wins in his first seven seasons leading the Golden Eagle program. During his tenure, he has seen five players (Jamie Zelinksy, Brittani Wiese, Megan Eul, Bri Zabel and Katrina Moenkedick) earn nine all-conference awards. Jamie Zelinsky, the all-time scoring leader at UMC was Coach Roysland’s first All-NSIC First Team pick following the 2010-11 season, which was his strongest as the head coach of the UMC program as they picked up 13 wins on the season. Moenkedick earned All-Freshman honors during the 2012-13 campaign and earned All-NSIC Second Team accolades during the 2013-14 season. Coach Roysland was a highly accomplished high school coach prior to his hiring by Stephanie Helgeson heading into the 2007-08 campaign. Roysland brought to the table 42 combined years of head coaching experience to the Golden Eagle Women’s Basketball program.
