I M PA C T O F P H I L A N T H R O P Y The old adage, “a little bit goes a long way” is absolutely true for our faculty and staff who are beneficiaries of investments made via the various endowments established in the College. We are extremely appreciative of the generosity exhibited by our donors, and we honor their commitment with wise distribution of resources to foster high-quality education, cutting-edge discovery, and second-to-none workforce development.

Faculty within the CHHS have generated over $130 million in external grants and awards over the past 3 years. These awards provide numerous opportunities for students at both the undergraduate and graduate level to gain valuable experience in research.

The School of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences operates two on-campus clinics that provide highquality, free-or-low-cost services to children and adults throughout our greater region.

With over 600 students, the School of Social Work is one of the largest professional schools on campus and is dedicated to producing competent and effective practitioners, leaders, and scholars who are grounded in evidence-based practice and prepared to positively impact the diverse communities they will go on to serve in their careers.

The School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences was recognized in 2020 with the American Kinesiology Association Inclusive Excellence Award for its significant efforts in diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Within the School of Nursing, over 300 faculty and students were recently trained to administer the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. These individuals are working in clinical groups to help speed the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccinations in San Diego County and SDSU’s campuses.

CHHS, along with the College of Sciences, is home to HealthLink, which is supported by a $5-year, $20M grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to support health disparities research throughout San Diego and Imperial counties.

STUDENTS

Through the newly-established City Heights MSW Scholarship, the School of Social Work welcomed four new MSW candidates — Nyakoach Lam, Abdisalan Bulhan, Rose Le, and Rocio Hernandez — into its direct practice program. These four students intend to become Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs) and to support the diverse needs of the City Heights community through their careers. Nyakoach Lam

I wish to acknowledge and thank both SDSU and UWEAST (the United Women of East Africa Support Team) for giving me a chance to grow academically and professionally. I am grateful to the donors who have sacrificed their resources to enable me with this opportunity. I hope the donors continue with the same spirit to assist more generations of social work students. - Abdisalan Bulhan, City Heights MSW scholarship recipient
