Fiscal Year 2020-2021
I M PA C T O F P H I L A N T H R O P Y ollege of Sciences donors are difference makers. C Your generous support of our programs, students, and faculty means so much to us. Because of you, students are better able to afford the cost of a degree - and the experiences they have here are richer and more varied. Because of you, our faculty are able to do more research and to change the way we understand the world around us. Because of you, Aztec scientists - students and faculty - stand among the best in the world. Thank you!
I f you haven’t had a chance to see for yourself, SDSU students are some of the hardest working people you will meet. But so often, practicalities force students to focus their efforts on the job of living, and leaves them without the time to lift their gazes from Earth. The recent Booth gift to Astronomy is going to give our students the chance to look deeply into the universe and contemplate its wonders. These stories play out across our College and our University, and your support touches the lives of our students in profound ways. On behalf of our students, thank you.

A $14 million bequest from the estate of Theodore William Booth and his wife Nhung Lu Booth (’85), an alumna of the College of Sciences, will provide support for upper-division undergraduate and graduate students in the astronomy program — launching the department to a new level of research, exploration, and discovery.
The Dr. Joi Weeks Endowed Scholarship for Chemistry and Biochemistry Students was established in honor of SDSU alumna Dr. Joi Weeks. Joi defended her Ph.D. in May 2020, was diagnosed with cancer two months later, and tragically passed away on Sept. 14, 2020. As a Black woman in science, she served as an inspiration for younger BIPOC scientists.
A generous donor provided support for multi-disciplinary research on COVID-19.

I am a first-generation Filipina-American, born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. As the eldest of three daughters, I have overcome high barriers and remain a role model to my family and relatives. I believe that philanthropy is such an impactful gift and something so beautiful for those driven and passionate students who are considering or are currently pursuing higher education beyond their bachelor’s degrees. Thank you for the continued support and dedication that all of you provide to us scholars in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (i.e. STEM).
