The James Silberrad Brown Center for Artifcial Intelligence (JSBCAI is moving forward in our research, elevating our facilities, and always looking for new ways to make our team stronger. None of our work could be achieved without the support of the Brown Family and all of our donors.
The JSBCAI team has participated in over 15 events to showcase our work and submitted research to national and international journals. We are dedicated to fostering the minds of all generations in AI and pushing the boundaries of discovery in basic and applied science research. My journey at SDSU has been a transformative experience, flled with invaluable opportunities and exceptional mentorship.
Working at the James Silberrad Brown Center for Artifcial Intelligence has been among the most rewarding aspects of my time here. Under the guidance of Dr. Aaron Elkins, I had the privilege of contributing to an innovative project focused on leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs) in healthcare. This experience was pivotal in deepening my understanding of AI and its real-world applications. Dr. Elkins's mentorship was instrumental in navigating complex research, honing my skills, and igniting my passion for innovation.
The support and resources from the Fowler College of Business were vital to my academic success. Now, as a proud graduate, I am eager to apply the knowledge and skills I've acquired to make a signifcant impact in the feld of AI and healthcare.
The opportunities provided by SDSU and the AI Center have laid a robust foundation for my future career, and I am excited to embark on this next chapter with confdence and enthusiasm.

Celebrating Shared Success
Recent Highlights
The 5th National Research Platform (NRP) Conference allowed us to coordinate with not only our SDSU IT Division but also colleges within the UC system and Stanford.
The university-wide SDSU Academic Applications in AI Summit featured Dr. Elkins as a panelist in the Research portion and Adrian Kieback in the Student Panel.
Acquired three student volunteers throughout the Spring semester, with two new volunteers onboarding in the Summer. We also have acquired two new IT research assistants to further our work.
At the Scottsdale Institute Summit at Sharp Healthcare, Dr. Elkins ofcially met Chief Data and Software Development Ofcer John McManus from our sister center, The Brown Center for Innovation.
Institute of Coaching Conference - At this conference, we explored how robots can enhance coaching through our mental health projects.
HFMA Innovation Conference - This is another Sharp Healthcare event highlighting how artifcial intelligence is being implemented in healthcare fnancial management and where Elkins introduced our center and our projects.
We established a relationship with International Bipolar Foundation President, Debbie Brown. She has prominent relationships in the mental health scene, and we are looking to dive into this connection to promote collaboration.
The Pediatric Bipolar Disorder Project continues with Texas Baylor College of Medicine publication.
The First Thesis Mentorship for the Center—Adrian Kieback from the Master of Science in Big Data Analytics was mentored by our lead researcher, George Ioannides, and his thesis committee was chaired by Dr. Elkins. He worked on representational learning in mental healthcare diagnostics. Pepper (the robot) was made to be the moderator and robot activist during an AI ethics debate in an MIS 429 class.
National Association of Counties AI Exploratory Meeting - At this meeting, we provided insight to leaders of government agencies regarding the nature of our work and how AI can positively impact regulation-making and increase collaboration across the board.
