MEET THE PERFORMERS at Berlin’s Famous Kit Kat Club

Could you please tell me your name and where you are from?

Bobby: I’m Bobby and I’m from London. Victor: I’m Victor and I’m from a rural town in Germany. My hometown is a small town, a culturally confined place.

Why did you move to Berlin? Why did you decide to work here?

Bobby: Well, I was kicked out by my family and I was looking for a place to move. I thought Berlin would be a perfect place for me because it is a diverse place. Here any sexuality is acceptable and I feel comfortable.

Victor: I wanted to move to Berlin because of its progressiveness. I wanted to be free. I wanted to get out of my small town and be liberated. Here everyone has different sexuality and it is accepted as Bobby said. And I guess I wanted to explore myself. Thank you, Bobby and Victor.

Hello all, could you please tell me your name and where you are from?

Texas: Hello. I’m Texas and I’m from Texas, in America.

Fritzie: Hi, I’m Fritzie. I was born and raised in Berlin.

Frenchie: Bonjour. I’m Frenchie and I’m from France.

Oh, you are all from different places. For you two from outside of the country, why did you decide to move to Berlin? And this question is for you all, why did you decide to work at Kit Kat Club?

Texas: I was a showgirl in Texas and danced at Vaudeville shows. I really love dancing and I wanted to be the center of the show. I found Kit Kat Club would be a perfect place for me to dance at.

Fritzie: A friend showed me the Kit Kat Club. I met Texas here and we became really close. She’s been working here for three years now and I’ve been here for almost two. Frenchie: I was stuck in a life that was very prim and proper, but I was very attracted to nightclub entertainment. I ended up encountering Josephine Baker, who gave me fabulous advice. I decided to travel the world to find what I was looking for, and I landed here in Berlin.

I am surprised that you look so close to each other. Is there competition? Don’t you get jealous or fight with each other?

Texas: Yeah, I feel we are close to each other.

Fritzie: Here in the club, we don’t fight a lot, we try to support each other. And as far as I know, no one gets jealous of Sally, everyone loves Sally.

Frenchie: We’re all here for each other and we all feel comfortable being here. Very comfortable~

Thank you, Texas, Fritzie, and Frenchie!

Sorry to interrupt. Could you please tell me your name and where you are from?

Lulu: No problem. I am Lulu and I’m from Phöben, outside of Berlin.

Why did you come to Berlin? What made you work at Kit Kat Club?

Lulu: I go to school in Berlin and that is why I came here. I work here to earn money to pay the tuition. Well, my parents do not know that I am working at Kit Kat Club but it is paid so well here. Especially I get paid well because I can sing. I did not know I have to dance a lot until I started working but I enjoy singing here so I love working at Kit Kat Club.

Oh, I need to go back to practice the song that I sing tonight. Enjoy the show tonight!

Thank you, Lulu.

Could you please tell me your name and where you are from?

Hans: Hello, I am Hans. I came from France.

Why did you move to Berlin? Why did you decide to work at Kit Kat Club?

Hans: Well… my man moved to Berlin so I followed him. He is such a nice man. He supports me financially, you know? That was the main reason why I moved to Berlin.

How do you feel about working at Kit Kat Club? I love working here. I like it here because of its sexual liberation. I feel so comfortable working here. Everyone is nice. Fritzie and Rossie are good friends of mine. Oh, and Sally is my sister. She is so sweet. And I love seeing so many fresh faces every night. Also, I get paid pretty well here.

Thank you, Hans.

Could you please tell me your name and where you are from?

Rosie: Hi, I am Rosie. I am from Paris.

Herman: I am Herman. I am from Paris as well. We came together from Paris.

Oh, so you knew each other before. Why did you move to Berlin and why did you decide to work at Kit Kat Club?

Herman: Well, Rosie was not treated well by the boss. That is why we moved together from Paris.

Rosie: Yes, I was a cancan dancer in Paris. I loved dancing there but I was not treated well and Herman took me out of the cabaret.

Herman: We decided to move to Berlin because I was attracted by the thriving liberation in Berlin.

Rosie: I still wanted to dance in a similar place like the cabaret in Paris and I found this perfect place. I love dancing in cabarets

How do you feel about working at Kit Kat Club?

Rosie: I like it here. I feel safe and everyone is a great performer. Also, Max treats me nicely. He told me that I have the talent to be the next star. I don’t know if he truly means that but I was happy to hear that. I do not care even if I do not dance in the center of the stage. Honestly, I am hoping everyone to get a spotlight equally and shine on stage. Herman: I feel safe working here and I am so glad. Sally is everyone’s sister. She is so nice. I love working here because I am paid well, especially because I am a crossdresser.

Thank you, Rosie and Herman.

Could you please tell me your name and where you are from?

Helga: Sure. I am Helga. I am from the countryside of Germany. You can ask me anything. I have worked here for so many years and I know all the stories happening here.

Thank you. Have you been working the longest?

Helga: Yes, I have worked here longer than anyone. I guess that’s why everyone keeps a distance from me.

What made you work at Kit Kat Club?

Helga: I was poor. I didn’t have a family. I suffered from the inflation and this was the only way to live. Here I can earn good amounts of money and that is why I keep working here.

Thank you, Helga.
