Pop singer, author, and actress Debby Boone is known for her hit “You Light Up My Life,” which stayed at number one for ten weeks in 1977 and won her a Grammy Award for Best New Artist. Born in Hackensack, New Jersey, Boone’s young life was full of music. Her father was singer and actor Pat Boone and her mother, Shirley Foley, was the daughter of popular country singer Red Foley. At the age of 14, Boone began touring with her three sisters and her father, then later with just her sisters as the Boones or the Boone Girls. Producer Mike Curb encouraged her to pursue a solo career and she struck gold with first solo effort, “You Light Up My Life,” rising quickly to stardom with one of the most popular songs of the decade. Subsequent pop singles failed to make as big an impact and Boone eventually tried her hand at country music, finding success in the late-70’s with albums like Midstream and Love Has No Reason. At the dawn of the ‘80s, Boone again transformed herself, launching a successful career recording Christian and inspirational music. Signing with prominent CCM label Sparrow Records, she released 1980’s With My Song, followed in 1983 by Surrender, eventually winning two more Grammy awards in the Christian and inspirational categories as well as two GMA Dove Awards.

Throughout much of the ‘80s and ‘90s, Boone devoted herself to her acting career, appearing across the country in productions of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Camelot, The King and I, and The Sound of Music, as well as on television. Beginning in 1988, she began yet another phase of her creative career writing children’s books. Inspired by her own four children, Boone wrote Hours for Little Ones and Tomorrow Is a Brand New Day. Her 1997 book, Nightlights, was illustrated by her husband, Gabriel Ferrer. She has also produced two children’s videos, Bobby Boone’s Hug-A-Long Songs, Vol. 1 and Bobby Boone’s Hug-A-Long Songs, Vol. 2. In 2005, Boone made a return to music, releasing her first album since her 1989 holiday set, Home for Christmas. A tribute to her late mother-in-law, singer and actress Rosemary Clooney, Reflections of Rosemary saw Boone covering classic jazz and pop songs that Clooney had made famous, as well as songs that she felt warmly reflected the singer’s personality. Touring heavily over the next several years, Boone continued to move toward a jazz and pop standards repertoire, releasing the big-band album, Swing This! in 2013. In 2017, she celebrated the 40th anniversary of her debut album, You Light Up My Life, with an expanded deluxe reissue.

Back in 2009, Jim James released Tribute To, a heartfelt, organically produced EP of George Harrison covers. Tribute to 2 has no single artist focus -- it’s comprised of covers James’ cut over several years in different studios. He starts off auspiciously with a spacy, soulful reading of Brian Wilson’s “I Just Wasn’t Made for These Times,” that touches Isaac Hayes’ mighty arranging skills. James was writing liner notes to a reissue of Hayes’ Hot Buttered Soul when he listened through its sidelong read of Jimmy Webb’s “By the Time I Get to Phoenix,” and began singing the words to the Wilson tune. He used the hypnotic backbeat, sparse but layered strings, reverb, and strategically placed horns to complete a recognizable but nonetheless transformative version of Wilson’s original. He follows it with a piano and multi-tracked vocal harmony read of Sonny & Cher’s “Baby Please Don’t Go.” Its simplicity resonates with the emotional sincerity in the lyric. There are two strange readings of tunes by Ray Noble and Al Bowly in “Love Is the Sweetest Thing” and “Midnight, the Stars, and You.” The former offers a touch of blues by way of late-’40s New Orleans, while the latter self-consciously attempts to re-create the creepiness of the song’s appearance in Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining. It’s interesting -- once. Willie Nelson’s “Funny How Time Slips Away” is mealy-mouthed and loose, feeling more like James trying to channel Tom T. Hall’s sense of lonesome drama than its composer’s tender, bittersweet resignation. He delivers a lo-fi, countrified take on the Orioles’ nugget “Crying in the Chapel” with only a bucket of vocal reverb and an acoustic guitar, and it works. The late Diane Izzo’s “Wild Honey” is sympathetically re-created here with an approach Mickey Newbury might have taken, with its lithe acoustic guitars, spacious delivery, and existential ache. The full-on honky tonk band version of Bob Dylan’s “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight” sounds like it was recorded by an intoxicated singer trying to whip up imagined hillbilly authenticity. The wanton whimsy of the original is lost and replaced with an imagined projection of vulnerability, but the musical arrangement contradicts it. James’ simple approach to Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s “Lucky Man” takes liberties with pace, phrasing, and tempo, but is nonetheless quite moving. Abbey Lincoln’s late-period masterpiece “The World Is Fallin’ Down,” was no doubt inspired by James’ collaborations with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, but her fluid, bluesy swing is nowhere to be found here. Instead, its lo-fi recording finds James with acoustic guitar and harmonium delivering a near-folk song approach. That said, his lovely falsetto gets multi-tracked and reaches into the lyrics’ cracks to allow its emotional depth and the desire for comfort and hope to emerge. The set closes with a short, seemingly throwaway version of “Blue Skies” that feels tossed off. Ultimately, Tribute to 2 is uneven and fuzzy. When it works, it’s lovely; when it doesn’t, it’s a head-scratcher. This is for fans only. 20

Released a little over a year after Chris Thile took over as host of the public radio variety show A Prairie Home Companion, Thanks for Listening collects ten Song of the Week features from his inaugural season. Each song was an original written for that week and premiered live on the show. Finding a common theme among personal, societal, and political topics in some of the songs -- namely, the art of listening -- Thile headed to the studio with producer Thomas Bartlett to record selections for a cohesive album. On these versions, the mandolin virtuoso covers stringed instruments except bass and viola, and sings lead, though he’s joined on some songs by guest vocalists Sarah Jarosz, Aoife O’Donovan, and Gaby Moreno, all Prairie alumnae under Thile. One of the album’s flashier mandolin performances can be found on the spare “Balboa,” whose multicultural wanderlust receives intricate and nuanced accompaniment. By and large, though, Thanks for Listening puts a premium on songs over chops, not that there’s any lack of instrumental proficiency here. An atmospheric track like “Feedback Loop,” for instance, uses a slow tempo, keyboards, and echo along with acoustic instruments. After setting an intentionally lethargic tone, lyrics get at our ability to filter unwelcome opinions on social media and elsewhere (“Feedback Loop, I play you to soothe my closed eyes/Closed mind/Open wounds/Open hate for anyone out of the Feedback Loop”). Later, the poppier “Falsetto” grapples with the constant derision, real and imagined, from a post-election Donald Trump, including what he might have to say about an activist musician. Other songs address fatherhood, family gatherings, and friendship in the context of the time’s technology and politics. Despite its more collaborative origins, Thanks for Listening plays like a singer/songwriter album from Thile, one with moments of humor, poignancy, dread, and playfulness. Particularly “for anyone trying to hear through the din of a boorish year,” it captures the Zeitgeist of the first half of 2017 with a very human touch.

British post-rock trio Three Trapped Tigers utilized Brian Eno’s Oblique Strategies, a series of cards containing simple phrases intended as ideas for artists struggling with writer’s block, during the compositional process for their 2016 album Silent Earthling. After the album was recorded, group member Tom Rogerson (an improvisational pianist and composer in his own right) began working with Eno, who provided several more ideas, including pulling chord sequences out of a hat and juxtaposing MIDI and physical sounds. On the resulting album, Finding Shore, Rogerson is simply credited with “notes” and Eno with “sounds,” with no further explanation, leaving it up to the listener to guess what went on in the studio. Like Ryuichi Sakamoto’s async, Finding Shore seems to find magic in everyday objects and scenes. The pieces have scenic titles like “Idea of Order at Kyson Point” and “Marsh Chorus,” and they all serve as simple yet surreal sound paintings, exploring minimal melodies and atmospheric elements. Early highlight “Motion in Field” features gorgeous piano melodies floating over a current of soft rhythmic glitches. “Red Slip” seems to reprise this idea, but at a much faster tempo, and with more spacious melodies. “On-ness” is a solo piano piece which beings by tiptoeing around a few quiet notes before centering on a pattern and becoming faster and more intense. The closed, constrained “March Away” brings to mind John Cage’s prepared piano experiments, while “Eastern Stack” is much more airy and open, with effects transforming the notes so they reverberate like zithers. While pieces like “An Iken Loop” are solemn and structured, “Marsh Chorus” and “Chain Home” are more abstract and seem to float off toward the stars. The appropriately calming “Rest” ends this unpredictable album of wonders and curiosities.

Director James Franco takes on the experience of a wayward creator in his latest film, “The Disaster Artist,” and reveals how even if something deeply personal is usually deeply flawed, it can still connect with audiences in ways no one could imagine. The movie is a great depiction of ambition, hubris, insecurity, friendship and the creative process while also being an utterly hilarious experience that viewers will return to again and again. Greg Sestero (Dave Franco) is an aspiring actor in San Francisco who is too afraid of failure and the criticisms of others to have much of a presence on stage. When he encounters Tommy Wiseau (James Franco) in an acting class, Greg finds a man who is unencumbered by fear of rejection, due to either Tommy’s own confidence or his complete lack of awareness. Tommy is a weird man with a strange accent, bizarre turns of phrases and a seeming inability to act like a normal person. After the two move to Los Angeles and find their prospects drying up, they decide to embark on the project of making their own movie, “The Room,” even though Tommy is as inept a filmmaker as he is flawed a person. The resulting movie would eventually become infamous as one of the best “so bad it’s good” films, but that was never the intention behind Tommy’s oddly personal opus of friendship and betrayal. 26

Whenever people move from consumers to producers, embarking on a journey of creativity to put something out in the world, they risk ridicule, scorn, or worse yet, indifference. It doesn’t matter how trivial, commercial or perceptibly impersonal the work is – that end result is still a reflection of its creator. Whether it’s a book, a film, a painting, a review, a tweet or whatever form of expression it takes, there is great vulnerability in putting a piece of oneself into the view of others for judgment. Because once it’s finished and put on display, it is no longer in control of the artist and instead becomes open season for others’ interpretations and reactions.

THE DISASTER ARTIST
Based on the book of the same name by Sestero and Tom Bissell, which in turn is based on the real-life events that led to the making of one of the most bizarre unintentional comedies of all time, James Franco’s film is a triumphant and uproarious comedy that celebrates flawed creators and their mistaken creations. Tommy’s utterly idiosyncratic persona is always hilarious as he filters normal interactions through a mind that seems completely foreign to concepts of simple social decorum. Watching Greg and the film’s crew try their best to deal with Wiseau is the main source of comedy, and it never gets old, as there are always new ways for Tommy to surprise, shock and bewilder those around him. It would have been very easy to make a schlocky, simple comedy that rested on a base caricature of Tommy’s weirdness and the infamy of “The Room,” but “The Disaster Artist” isn’t a simple or base film. James Franco’s performance is more than just a wonky accent and some prosthetics, but instead a fully realized person whose insecurities manifest themselves in bizarre and unfortunate ways leading to his terrible movie. The relationship between Greg and Tommy feels real, if uncommon, and is the source of the film’s soul; while they are polar opposites in many ways, they complement each other and ultimately support each other, though there may be missteps along the way. Dave Franco, Seth Rogen and especially Ari Graynor all turn in hilarious and fully realized performances as people caught up in Tommy’s whirlwind, with Josh Hutcherson and Zac Efron also delivering a lot of laughs as actors in “The Room.” “The Disaster Artist” is about the nerve of creators who dare to put pieces of themselves up on the screen and how it takes some lack of self-awareness in order to tempt that hubris to do something so grandiose. In the tradition of “American Movie” and “Ed Wood,” Franco’s film is a testament to ambition far exceeding talent and the ability to connect with audiences in unplanned, but still profound, ways. “The Disaster Artist” is one of the best movies of the year and also easily one of the funniest. The main sources of comedy are the peculiar interactions Tommy has with people, but the true engine of the film is its heart. The piece recognizes that Tommy Wiseau is a weirdo, a dreamer, an asshole and a good friend; in short, he’s a unique person with multiple sides and not just a joke that is easily reduced to funny mannerisms. The reaction to “The Room” is never what Tommy intended, but that is the fate of all creators who have to let the world decide on the merits of their creations. But the fact that he got a reaction at all, which reverberates to this day in pop culture and among cult film fans, proves that his was a singular vision that could not be duplicated. That James Franco is able to deliver the story of its creation with as much heart and humor as “The Disaster Artist” contains is a true testament to the transformative power of art.

The world is still mourning the loss of Superman (Henry Cavill) after his heroic death at the hands of Doomsday, and Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) can’t help but feel somewhat responsible. He knows that an even bigger threat is looming and has begun recruiting a new group of heroes to fight in the war to come. What he doesn’t realize is that it may already be here in the form of Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds), a god-like being who arrives on Earth in search of three ancient devices called Mother Boxes with the power to wipe out the entire planet. But despite the efforts of Bruce’s newly formed team – including Amazonian warrior Diana Prince/Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), snarky speedster Barry Allen/The Flash (Ezra Miller), cybernetically-enhanced human Victor Stone/Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and the reluctant heir to Atlantis, Arthur Curry/Aquaman (Jason Momoa) – they’re unable to stop Steppenwolf on their own, leading Bruce to consider the possibility of resurrecting a certain Kryptonian.

As Marvel Studios enters the final stretch of its unprecedented (and largely successful) cinematic experiment, DC’s own series of interconnected movies is still working out the kinks. Though this year’s “Wonder Woman” was an encouraging sign of progress, “Justice League” is a frustrating step backward that, while not as disappointing as “Batman v Superman” and “Suicide Squad,” hasn’t been able to completely eliminate the stench of bad decisions made during the DCEU’s misguided inception. It’s certainly an improvement, most notably the lighter tone that co-writer Joss Whedon brings to the project, but it’s also not as good as it should be. “Justice League” is simply okay, and though that may seem like a win in some regards, Warner Bros. should be setting its sights higher.
DECEMBER 2017
THOR: JUSTICE LEAGUE
That’s hardly a spoiler, as a “Justice League” movie without Superman isn’t really a “Justice League” movie at all, but director Zack Snyder wisely doesn’t rush his return. Instead, he spends the first hour just getting the film’s new heroes into the same room together, and although the end result is worth it, the execution itself is pretty sloppy. The reason that “The Avengers” worked so well is because audiences were already familiar with most of the characters, with a majority of the legwork done in the previous standalone films. “Justice League,” on the other hand, doesn’t have that benefit and is tasked with introducing three new main characters (as well as supporting ones like J.K. Simmons’ Commissioner Gordon) without being given adequate time to really get to know them. You get the gist of their various backstories through some forced exposition, but Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg don’t feel like fully-developed characters. Fortunately, Miller and Momoa are having so much fun in their roles that it doesn’t really matter. Miller adds much-needed comic relief to the proceedings, while Momoa oozes swagger as the resident badass of the group. They’re easily two of the film’s biggest highlights, along with Gadot’s assured performance as Wonder Woman. In fact, Fisher’s Cyborg is the only character who doesn’t really work on screen; he has zero personality and is hampered by shoddy visual effects. It’s also a shame that Snyder couldn’t find a more compelling villain for his heroes to fight, because Steppenwolf is perhaps the dullest bad guy that DC has ever created. He’s a completely CG character who looks like he walked straight out of a video game, an issue that has plagued the last three DC films, including the otherwise excellent “Wonder Woman.” Despite the overwhelming blandness of Steppenwolf and his army of insect-like Parademons, however, the action sequences are mostly enjoyable thanks to the diverse blend of personalities involved. It’s great to see these superheroes interact and actually having fun for once (especially Batman, who has loosened up considerably since his last appearance), and that goes a long way in saving the movie as a whole. It still has some major story and editing problems, and fans will have a field day trying to distinguish Snyder’s material from the reshoots that Whedon oversaw, but “Justice League” has just enough good to combat the bad, ultimately squeaking by on the promise that the next time will be even better.

Nothing comes easy for the Falcons anymore, but they’re still alive Not much went right for the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday night.

Matt Ryan threw three interceptions, including two of the worst you’ll see from any quarterback this season. Coach Dan Quinn made a strategical error late in the game that should have cost his team a win. Devonta Freeman had what would have been a horrendous fumble in the final minute, but he got lucky when a teammate recovered. The New Orleans Saints had a hard time fielding a lineup at the end, and still the Falcons had a hard time putting them away.
And yet, somehow the Falcons won 20-17. Linebacker Deion Jones had an enormous interception in the end zone in the final two minutes, and then Saints coach Sean Payton was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct for running out on the field to argue with officials over a timeout. That finished up a grind-it-out victory for Atlanta.

SELFIEMAGAZINE.NET
That’s been the story of the Falcons’ season. Last season it seemed to come easy, at least until the infamous Super Bowl collapse. The points flowed, the defense improved as the season went on, and the wins came week after week. Nothing is easy this season. With a loss, the Falcons would have been practically done in the NFC playoff race. As is, they are still alive at 8-5, but are going to have to play a lot better to keep winning and get in. The Saints almost stole the win due to a weird decision by Quinn. The Saints threw incomplete on third-and-1 in the final two minutes, but there was a late flag on New Orleans for holding. Quinn had a choice: Move the Saints back 10 yards and face a third-and-11, or decline the penalty and New Orleans would have fourth-and-1. Presumably, Quinn figured Payton would take the 42-yard field goal and tie the game. He was wrong. The Saints went for it and Drew Brees converted a quarterback sneak. It was a big mistake, but the Falcons took Quinn off the hook. Jones picked off Brees with the Saints inching closer to the end zone and in comfortable position to tie the game on a field goal. The Saints were seriously banged up by the end of the game. Running back Alvin Kamara went out first, with a concussion. Many of his teammates followed him to the sideline. Still, the Saints had a shot to win. Part of that was because the Falcons offense struggled, and Ryan made some inexplicable mistakes. Ryan threw a terrible pick at the end of the first half with the Falcons in field-goal position to Saints rookie cornerback Marshon Lattimore. There seemed to be a problem with the play call, because Julio Jones came off the field yelling at the sideline. (It could be argued that he was upset about not drawing a holding call against Lattimore on the play.) The Falcons got lucky though as the Saints blew a field-goal opportunity on the last play of the first half. They were flagged for illegal formation. Yeah, it was that kind of game. Ryan threw an interception to start the second half, though it was tight end Austin Hooper’s fault. Ryan’s third interception was clearly his fault and a mistake you would expect from an undrafted rookie in his first game. On third down near the goal line, Ryan looked at Jones as he moved in the pocket, and even though Jones wasn’t open, Ryan threw it anyway. He got no loft on the pass to even give Jones a chance at a ridiculous jump-ball catch. It was an easy interception. It was a startling play from the reigning NFL MVP. Yet, it all turned out well in the end. The Falcons won, and it won’t matter to them how it happened. The Falcons are finding that everything is a challenge as they try to follow up their NFC championship, but they’re still fighting.

Finally, Hue Jackson got a win in 2017 but don’t buy into 2018 endorsement from Browns owner
For now, Hue Jackson won the power struggle. The Cleveland Browns head coach won’t frame it that way, of course. And he might even go as far as to make it sound like it was all a media creation. But speaking truth to reality isn’t always a high-percentage play in the NFL, so Jackson will take another road. The rest of us don’t have to. So we’ll just say it: Hue Jackson won.
SELFIE MAGAZINE
This is right about on schedule for this franchise, which is still paying a litany of fired executives and coaches. Considering the dynastic grip the Browns franchise has on culling staffs, there should be a Jimmy Haslam Unemployment Trophy.
DECEMBER 2017
When Sashi Brown was fired Thursday, the Browns coaching staff claimed its first victory of the season by defeating the head of football operations. It’s not the kind of thing that calls for champagne goggles in the locker room, but when the regime has embraced “losing to win” to the tune of a 1-27 record, triumphs should be seized where you can get them.
32
SELFIE MAGAZINE
SELFIEMAGAZINE.NET
In fairness, this latest move seemed necessary and inevitable. Whether Jackson wants to admit it or not, the relationship between himself and Brown was fractured from the tip to the base. It stopped working, largely because of the unscalable wall between the coaching staff and personnel department. The breakdowns weren’t all Brown’s fault – and they weren’t the only things leading to his firing Thursday – but a strained relationship with Jackson coupled with roster missteps ultimately fell on Brown’s shoulders. And when he was pushed out the door, Jackson was gifted a victory in the power struggle he’s trying to pretend didn’t exist. That’s fine since the mess around Jackson remains as cluttered as ever. This despite the declaration from Haslam that Jackson would still be the coach of the franchise in 2018. From a mechanical standpoint, if a franchise is in the market for a general manager, it’s not very appealing when its owner has already declared that the head coach is guaranteed into the next season. That is, unless you’re sending up a flag to candidates that they will be expected to keep Jackson and embrace his input on roster decisions. It’s unclear how this will play out with John Dorsey, the man who will replace Brown as GM (the Browns announced the hire Thursday night). Taken at face value, that’s what Haslam told candidates. That Jackson is still standing. That Jackson still reports only to Haslam. And that Jackson’s relationship with Dorsey will be a significant point of emphasis. All of which should thrill Jackson. In a statement announcing his hiring, Dorsey, the former Kansas City Chiefs GM, said, “I am eager to work with Hue and his staff, and our personnel department and help bring us the success these fans so deserve.” Most of the frustrations existing between Brown and Jackson were related to the dysfunctional power dynamic set up by Haslam, in which everyone reported into him and then had to claim that all moves were “joint decisions.” Which they were not. More often than not, the personnel side was creating the roster with little influence from the coaching staff, lest Jackson plead his case to Haslam and then Haslam press the issue on behalf of his head coach. Even for the Browns, this has been a wonky infrastructure, leaving the coaching staff feeling disenfranchised and the personnel department operating a fiefdom that could be pushed only by ownership. This set up the failing disconnect between Brown and Jackson, and ended with Brown losing his job. With three damaging points in particular, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the fallout. Among them: When Jackson and Brown discussed the team’s long-term plan prior to Jackson’s hire – and then again while filling out the staff of assistants – coaches were given the impression that the roster churn wasn’t aimed at completely gutting the team and starting over. The staff was under the belief that the front office would push to retain key veterans (and also be solidly active in free agency) to the point that the roster could remain competitive on a week-to-week basis. Instead, the majority of the roster was cut to the bone with a single-minded emphasis on securing youth and draft picks. While there were a handful of disagreements, the most frustrating occurred in August, when the Browns released cornerback Joe Haden on the doorstep of the 2017 season despite already having an embarrassment of salary-cap space. The move stunned Jackson and defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, then moved to total disbelief when Haden signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Despite his decline, Haden was still one of the Browns’ most valuable defensive pieces and it was tough to swallow his loss and then have the frustration compounded by facing Haden twice a season against a division rival.

Destiny 2’s first DLC expansion, Curse of Osiris, is now available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. It introduces a variety of new content; there are campaign missions and Strikes set on the new planet of Mercury, which is home to a new free roam area with its own Public Event and the unique Infinite Forest zone. There’s also new Crucible content and a variety of other changes, but for many players, the big highlight is the new gear. There are a number of new weapons in Curse of Osiris. While it’ll take some time to acquire them all, we’ve already gotten our hands on quite a few. In the gallery above, we’ve rounded up all the Legendary weapons we’ve seen at this point. You’ll also find a new Exotic trace rifle--the weapon type Bungie added for Destiny 2. Before now, there was only a total of one (Coldheart) in the game; now we’ve got another. You can also check out all the new Faction gear and Eververse cosmetics. Curse of Osiris’s release coincided with that of update 1.1.0, which made some major balance changes to the game. Numerous weapon types have been buffed or nerfed, and further tweaks to Destiny 2 are coming soon as part of another big December update. The next patch will add Masterworks weapons, which should give hardcore players in particular some much-needed variety. 34

Nintendo’s presentation began on stage with producer Eiji Aonuma wearing a Champion’s Tunic, swinging the Master Sword. From there, a trailer ran that showcased each of the titular champions in Breath of the Wild, a variety of new shrines, and new gear. You’ll still play as Link, but he has a new tool at his disposal--and it’s a really cool one. The trailer ends with a look at the Master Cycle Zero, basically a motorcycle that Link can ride around Hyrule. You’ll get your hands on it once you complete the new challenges that await in this DLC. Aonuma described it as essentially being Link’s Divine Beast. We’d previously gotten some brief looks at The Champions’ Ballad and learned that you would still play as Link, despite the focus on the titular Champions. It will feature a brand-new dungeon, gear, and an original story. The DLC is only available through Breath of the Wild’s $20 / £18 expansion pass, which also provides access to the already-released DLC. That also offers access to The Master Trials, new outfits, a harder difficulty mode, and the Trial of the Sword. 36

Gosh, I’m pretty sure this is not a big deal for you guys and gals but.. I’ve been waiting for this moment for months!! We’ve finally found high quality photos of Bar Refaeli doing what she probably does best (looking like a supernova of hotness) while posing for the 2012 lingerie collection from Passionata. I guess that’s a good reason to be really excited, right? We don’t get to see as many photos of Bar as we used to see a couple of years ago and that makes me really, really sad, but when she has a new photoshoot out, she’s back with a bang! It’s no secret that Bar Refaeli has been one of our favorite girls in the world in these last years (and yours too I’m sure), and these photos are perfect proof as to why. This girl was, is and will be an absolute doll, has a killer body that seems to be made after someone took a survey among men on how perfection looks like and.. she oozes mondo sex appeal from every single photo you’ll find with her. I really hope she won’t go off our radar just like Marisa Miller because we’d love to gawk at new photos like these at least once a month. Enjoy!

3 Reasons Why Marking Bike Lanes is Important!
SELFIE MAGAZINE
DECEMBER 2017
With so many people now enjoying nature and exercise, many have picked up biking as not just a hobby but also a mode of transportation. Many would argue that biking is just a past time since it can only be ridden in safe neighborhoods where there aren’t a lot of cars that pass through, or at bike tracks where they are as far away from the street as possible. However, a road is made for transportation and bike is also made for that. Although not a lot are fans of driving next to bikers because of how unpredictable they can be, all the more reason to mark bike lines. Here are a few reasons why marking bike lanes is important.

SELFIE MAGAZINE
SELFIEMAGAZINE.NET
3. Safer for both cyclists and motorists. Marking bike lanes is a lot safer than having to drive next to cyclists that might change lanes in any minute. Bikers do not have side mirrors where they can easily see vehicles behind them. By marking bike lines on the sides of the street, bikers can bike with ease without having to worry about vehicles taking over or hitting them when changing lanes. It is safe for motorists because maneuvering through bikes won’t be a problem anymore and it’s also safe for bikers because they get their own place on the street where nobody else but them can take.
2. Encourages more bikers. One of the main reasons why not a lot of people like to bike is because the danger that it may pose when driving next to vehicles. By adding bike lanes on every street, more and more people would turn to biking for transportation. Aside from the safety that it brings, it also helps people get more exercise. People are more likely to bike if they are certain that they can be safe on the road. When there are bike lanes, more people would bike and this leads to more people having a fit and healthier lifestyle.
1. Helps the environment. Traffic is getting worse and worse, especially in big cities where almost everyone has a car. It’s very alarming that more people are getting their own cars, adding more vehicles in the streets. It’s pretty obvious that the consequences to the environment are severe because of the gas that comes out of the car exhaust. By marking bike lanes on the streets, more people would start biking and biking does not affect the environment in a severe way such as cars would.

GADGETS & GEAR ‘Twas A Month Before Christmas: Hottest Holiday Gadgets
SELFIE MAGAZINE
Here are the hottest gadgets this season that I am setting my crosshairs on.
DECEMBER 2017
I have heard an advice from one Youtuber that when they are deciding on what kind of gift to buy, they go through four rules: something you want, something you need, something to wear, and something to read. I thought about those four rules when I was deciding on what to buy for myself this Christmas and this was my conclusion: I would buy a new gadget. That’s something I want, something I need (I can use it for work – that’s the reason I usually give myself when buying a new toy), something I could wear (hey, your gadgets are pretty much part of your attire right?), and finally I can read things on it. Nice. That settles it. I am buying one of these guilt-free!

GADGETS & GEAR Items that should be included in your Emergency Kit!
SELFIE MAGAZINE
DECEMBER 2017
Just like how the popular saying would go, it is better safe than sorry. Being prepared for anything can really save a person’s life. Whether it is because of a natural disaster or some sort of catastrophic event that resulted in the unbalancing of society, it is important to always be prepared at the comfort of your home. Stashing emergency kits can really help someone survive a disaster or any other event that needs surviving. With that said, here are some of the items that should be included in your emergency kit!
First Aid One can never be too prepared for an injury. By keeping a first aid kit at the house at all times, one can be prepared to help ones self or another person who has suffered some kind of injury during the disaster and confusion. Of course the first aid kit would include bandages, gauze, shots, and other kinds of first aid survival stuff that one would need to survive an unprecedented event.

Flashlight and extra batteries It can never be emphasized enough, having a flashlight at hand is always the right thing to do. One can never be sure whether the lights will go out and having a battery-powered flashlight will come in handy during night time. It is also crucial to bring extra batteries. or at least stock up on them, because you can’t really tell how long the isolation will last and having enough spare batteries won’t hurt.
Can opener This may come off as a bit of a surprise because it is a particularly odd material to include in a survival kit. However, this could probably save a lot of lives in dire situations. Canned goods are so easy store which is why they are the perfect food to keep when times are tough. With that said, it is kind of obvious that without a can opener, canned goods would not even be able to be opened. It is an important tool to always have at all times. Although there are so many more items and tools that a person should have at all times in order to survive mother nature’s wrath or other kinds of events. It is important to take note that having a survival guide kit will definitely help you survive a traumatizing and horrible experience. By having a survival emergency kit, one can probably last longer than those who are not prepared.

‘Twas A Month Before Christmas: Budgeting On Christmas Gifts
SELFIE MAGAZINE
DECEMBER 2017
Even though the holiday is still a month away, you can already feel the holiday cheer in the air…and not too far away, the holiday spending. If you are already feeling your pockets wearing a little thin, then you certainly have to decide on one thing: how to budget on your Christmas gifts. After all, this is usually where the biggest chunk of our money go when it comes to spending.
56
SELFIE MAGAZINE
SELFIEMAGAZINE.NET
To help you out with that, here’s a short article of a couple of tips you can try out to help ease the spending a bit and, you know, just put a little sanity to your wallet.
The Budget The very first thing you need to do is to determine how much you want to spend on gift-giving this year. Don’t overestimate and be realistic. Remember that you might have to spend for other things this season like clothes and food, among other things. Take your other expenses into consideration as well.
The List Once you have made your budget, it’s time to make the list. It will contain all the people whom you are planning to give gifts to this year. Be tough. You’re not Santa, you are not as rich as Santa, you are not obligated to give gifts to everyone on your phone list of Facebook friends list. If you’re on a tight budget, limit the list to the most important people on your life – to those whom you were able to depend on during the challenges of this year, your best friends, your family, and if there’s room for more, people whom you want to “invest” on. What do I mean by this? They are the people whom you want to establish a deeper or closer relationship with.
The Breakdown Finally, divide your budget to the number of people on the list. If you want to set aside a bigger budget for one or two people, list those first and deduct the amount from the overall budget before dividing it among the people remaining. If the amount that remains for each is too small, then I’m sorry but you have to reduce the list. Let the list adjust for you and not the budget. You’ll be surprised to learn that people can be understanding especially when you give them other gifts – like the gift of presence whenever they need you.

‘Twas A Month Before Christmas: NO-STRESS Travel Tips
SELFIE MAGAZINE
DECEMBER 2017
Here we are once again in another article still in line with our “Twas A Month Before Christmas” series because last time I checked, it’s still November! 58
SELFIE MAGAZINE
SELFIEMAGAZINE.NET
But, if traveling really is required, then here are a couple of tips to keep in mind in order to make your trip hassle-free and stress-free, because any bro would want a sane holiday celebration, right?
First Tip: Don’t overdo it. It’s Christmas and you’re on vacation! Finally, after a year of waiting and saving, the trip that you’ve been preparing for all year is here! So let’s do this, let’s do that, ride this, ride that, let’s do everything! No. Breathe first for. Don’t overdo your vacation. Don’t pack in too much activities on each day. Not only will this make you super exhausted, it will also make you spend a LOT.
Second Tip: Do everything earlier. From booking your flight earlier, to booking your dinner earlier. Holiday vacation spots will be crowded and you know what that means, right? Really long lines. Save yourself the stress by booking a dinner reservation at, let’s say, 5:00pm. That way, even if you do have to wait for your dinner at least: 1. Chances are you’re already seated, and 2. You’re not that hungry yet.
Third Tip: Reserve some extra days before and after the trip. Filing for a leave? Then don’t make it exactly a day before and just only a day after the trip. Cut yourself some slack and get extra free days before and after your trip. That way, if you get sick or something unforeseen delays your flight you can just chill! Plus, nothing’s better than spending a full day of just sleeping after a long and exhausting trip.

Sex Positions You Have Probably Never Heard Of!
SELFIE MAGAZINE
DECEMBER 2017
Intimacy with your significant other can be repetitive at times, especially when you are the type of person to just want to get that release. However, being intimate with someone special requires a lot more than feeling good. It’s about doing something special, instead of just doing the typical sex routine that you may or may not have had with other people. Keeping things exciting takes a lot of thought process and patience and it requires much more than mere foreplay and in and out. Here are a few sex positions that you have probably never even heard of!
60
SELFIE MAGAZINE
SELFIEMAGAZINE.NET
The Trapeze If you’re feeling a little wild and daring, The Trapeze is something that you may want to try out. In this position, you will be sitting at the edge of the bed with both your feet on the ground. You will be holding your partner by the waist with their legs hugging your sides and their arms wrapped around your neck. It’s sort of like a cowgirl position but with you sitting up. What makes this a trapeze is that your partner will try to go all the way back and see how far they can lean back. It is one of the positions to try out.
The Burning Man This position, in particular, is not new to most couples who don’t limit themselves inside the bedroom. For those who love to try having sex in other parts of the house, The Burning Man is a position worth trying out. The Burning Man is a position that requires strength and endurance from both parties since it requires leg stamina. The partner will lay on top of a table with their stomach flat on the surface and both feet either dangling or still touching the ground. You will then be positioned behind them, leaving you capable of thrusting in and out. The intensity of this position gives it the name The Burning Man.
Frog Leap Frog Leap is a sexual position that requires a lot of leg and thigh strength on the part of the partner. In this position, the partner is positioned in a way of what it would look like if a frog were about to leap. You will be positioned like how one would doggy-style, but the difference is that you will be on your knees. Your partner will then be in a squatting position with both their hands on the ground or the surface of the bed. It is basically an upgraded doggy-style that provides a new angle.

‘Twas A Month Before Christmas: A Guide to Breaking-up During The Holidays
SELFIE MAGAZINE
DECEMBER 2017
Ho ho how are you doing? Sorry, that was bad. I know. I just had to get that out of my system. The last time we were here, we were talking about how to score a date before Christmas, because, you know, nobody wants to go to Christmas parties alone. It’s cold. Plus there are a lot of those blasted mistletoes!
62
SELFIE MAGAZINE
SELFIEMAGAZINE.NET
But what if it’s the other way around? What if you’d rather kiss your mother underneath the mistletoe (and I’m talking clean love here, not some disgusting mom and son fantasy) than HER? What if it’s better to spend Christmas alone, in peace, than at war with HER? But because you’re a gentleman, you’d still want to let her off the hook as easy and as gently as possible…how do you do that, though? That’s the question. And here my friends, is the answer.
Do it as early as possible. The more you drag it on, the worse things are going to get. Invitations to different kinds of events- family dinners, Christmas parties, etc – are going to start coming soon and you don’t want her checking plus one when you’re not going to be together anymore when that time comes.
Be honest. There’s no need to use flowery words. You don’t want to give the impression that the relationship can still be saved when you it can’t right? So just get straight to it. But please, for the love of God, make it simple. There’s also no need to say more than you need. Remember, you kiss your mother with that mouth, bro.
And finally, don’t reminisce. There’s no need to recap everything that has happened in your relationship whether good or bad. You shared it with each other so chances are, if she’s completely sane and conscious during that time, she remembers it pretty well too! Probably even more than you do. Remember, there’s no “perfect time” to break-up with someone. It’s always a bad time to break someone’s heart. You simply owe it to her to be completely honest.

The Double Breasted Suit If there’s one thing Barney Stinson has taught us, that is to wear a nice and stylish suit. For this particular season, that means going double breasted. Channel the 80s with the look, or be more confident and comfortable by wearing it unbuttoned. Notable brands are Lemaire, Versace, and Emporio Armani.
This Means War! Fashion doesn’t always have to be snob and apathetic. In fact, this year, big brands like Moschino, Tim Coppens, and Rick Owens have taken political statements to their sartorial works. We are talking about military inspired clothing, sweaters and shirts with pictures of war and destruction, slogan shirts with anti-government sentiment. With this you can literally wear your ideals on your sleeves.
All-American In relation to the trend above, we are also going to feel a lot of patriotic love in fashion this season with American patterns and icons ablazing. Stars flags, or just our colors: red, white, and blue, on all different kinds of outfits! The brands to take note of are Givenchy, Tommy Hilfiger, and Junya Watanabe.
Pleated Pants We have been talking about tops for a while so let us end this series with a bottom. Apparently, big brands will make pleated pants hot again this fall. We will be seeing a lot of mid-rise wide pants belted or not worn with a suit or with a sweater. Brands to look out for are Haider Ackermann, Louis Vuitton, and Salvatore Ferragamo. And that’s it my well-dressed bros! Until our next fashion article!

The Relaxation Hoodie That’ll Allow You To Sleep Anywhere
SELFIE MAGAZINE
DECEMBER 2017
Fashion and comfort are two words that don’t always mix, but if you are made to think of a relaxing piece of clothing what would your answer be? Would it be your bleached and stained band shirt? A guy here in the office says his is his favorite pair of polka dot boxers – the perfect combination of comfort and confidence, or so he says.
For me, that piece of clothing would be a hoodie. Any hoodie. It provides the comfort during that autumn chill. It provides me a sort of barrier for my insecurities, to hide that bleached and stained shirt in case of emergency. Plus, I like to wear it while grabbing a quick nodder here at the office. I’ll just settle in a couch, pull up the hood, try to let it cover my eyes and sleep. 66

Any dude who tries to nap with a hoodie on knows that the hood is not enough to ward off the light. Hence, the birth of the Vollebak Relaxation Hoodie. The hoodie that has the hood that you can completely zip up covering your entire face. Sounds claustrophobic? No problem. It has a visor made of breathable mesh that allows you to breathe comfortably and see the outside world from the inside. I can’t even explain how excited I am for this. Imagine, you’re in the office pantry and you know that someone’s going to look for you and ruin your nap. Simple. Just zip up the hood. Unless they are sure you’re the right person, no one should disturb you from hiding, er, napping. Probably shouldn’t have mentioned this here. Final tip, I think it’s best not to wear this all zipped up at night, else risk being mistaken for a criminal, you get the picture. Needless to say, it wouldn’t work well with the ladies while zipped up. You can get your own Vollebak Relaxation Hoodie at $285.

The World’s Top Ten Most Delicious Cakes
SELFIE MAGAZINE
DECEMBER 2017
Hey guys, how are you doing? The last time we were here for a top ten food list we talked about the top ten most delicious bread in the world. Well, that inspired me a lot (and made me awfully hungry too) so here I am making another list – this time it’s all about cake! Because who doesn’t love cake?! Let’s start!
10. Black Forest Cake I know what you’re going to say. “What? I’m here to read about special cakes, not the regular chocolate cake or you know, black forest cake.” But hear me out here. I am talking about the original Black Forest cake with the original German name: Schwarzwalder kirschtorte. This German cake which is like an entire cocktail party inside a cake since it’s made with a generous helping of cherry brandy. 68

9. Cheesecake Speaking of special cakes, before we go all around the world, let’s reserve a quick space for our very own cheesecake. And it’s all thanks to the person who invented cream cheese back in the 1800s. Whoever you are, thanks bro (or sis).
8. Victoria Sponge But for those who really like the classics, there’s nothing classier than Great Britain’s Victoria Sponge. Yes, they actually named this cake after Queen Victoria since she was an absolute sweet tooth. Best served with tea if you’re inviting the lady during the afternoon to show off how cultured you are.

Here’s another one that would be perfect for your afternoon tea as well. Turkey’s Baklava cake, which is technically a sugar bomb filled with pistachios and syrup. Diabetes anyone?
6. Tres Leches And because we are already in the topic of getting sugar rush, here’s a cake rumored to give even grown men a fit of giggles. Mexico’s Tres Leches cake. The ingredients? Leche of course, and a lot of them. We’re talking about condensed milk with evaporated milk with regular milk, then coated with whipped cream.

5. Tiramisu I am caught guilty. I haven’t tasted an authentic Italian tiramisu yet. Did you know that it means “pick you up” in Italian because that’s what it is? A cake that will give you that energy boost because it’s originally made with ladyfingers dipped in coffee?
4. Pavlova This cake has been named after the Russian dancer Anna Pavlova. Here’s a fun fact: it wasn’t invented in Russia. Australia also made a claim. But the first ever Pavlova? The oldest recipe dating back to the 1920s was found in New Zealand. Who’d have thought, right? What makes this cake so special is its meringue coating, carefully protecting that sweet marshmallow-like goodness of a cake inside.

And because I love meringue (don’t judge), I’ll list down Uruguay’s Postre Chaja at number three since it’s also encased within a meringue shell. What’s inside? 1. Swedish Princess Cake Finally at number one is Sweden’s Prinsesstarta or Princess Cake. This cake is so delicious that the country throws a week-long annual celebration for this cake! Not a lot of cakes get this much love and attention I bet. The cake is made of layers of sponge, jam, custard, and whipped cream, then covered with marzipan, with a marzipan flower on top.
Special Mention: Japanese Dorayaki
Anime fans would recognize this as Doraemon’s absolute obsession, but why the special mention? Simple. I love swords and samurais. Check out this cake’s history. It is said that the very first dorayaki was made by an elderly couple who cooked pancakes on a gong left by a wounded samurai they helped recovered during the Edo era. Cool. I wish I had a samurai gong too…and dorayaki of course!

Yummiest Things To Throw Into Your Omelet
SELFIE MAGAZINE
DECEMBER 2017
There’s no better way to start a day than a delicious omelet. But let’s face it, the egg deal is getting pretty boring especially if you throw the same things in there every single day. And even more so if you don’t put anything on it. Just the eggs.

But don’t worry bro. We’re here to the rescue. Today I’m going to share with you the yummiest things that you can add to your omelet to make your breakfast more exciting!
Milk and Butter Here’s the basic omelet: combine two eggs with two tablespoons of whole milk and whisk. Don’t forget to grease your pan with two tablespoons of butter before you throw your eggs in there!
Turmeric and Tomatoes Feeling more adventurous? Here’s an Indian kick to your beloved omelet. Heat some olive oil on a pan. Throw in some mustard seeds and turmeric in there and give them a little saute. Throw some chopped onions and cook them a bit. Throw in some tomatoes after and also cook them a bit. Enjoy the aroma! Once you’re satisfied with the color, add in four whisked eggs.
Bacon and Cheese You want any dish to get yummier? Add some bacon and cheese to it. That’s my motto! Turns out, you can do that to your omelet too. Prepare your eggs by whisking them beforehand. Yeah, you know the drill. Cook the bacon first too. Once the bacon’s cooked, chop it into small pieces. You may want to slice an avocado too, but that’s entirely up to you. Grate your choice of cheese. Once the ingredients are ready, start cooking your egg. Next, sprinkle all these yummy additions on top!
Goat Cheese and Salsa Finally, here’s a healthier alternative. For this omelet, you are just going to need the egg whites. Whisk it and cook as you would your regular omelet. Once you’re done cooking, sprinkle goat cheese on top and a top it with your favorite salsa!
