■ 2022 Awards Deadlines are Approaching

Did you know, members that are recognized for SEAA awards receive national exposure? “Winning the Class I Project of the Year recipient Hodges Erectors World Class Safety award gave our employees a sense of pride, and really encouraged them to help us improve our safety and quality,” said Jason Farris of Cooper Steel.

The Project of the Year Award is for SEAA members that topped out a steel erection project in 2020 or 2021. New for next year is a category for Miscellaneous Metals, which expands recognition for projects that fall outside structural steel construction. Application deadline is January 28, 2022.

The Safety Excellence Award acknowledges SEAA members who go above and beyond in the effort to provide ironworkers a safe place to work, and the Craft Training Recognition Award is for companies that are playing a critical role in the development of skilled ironworkers. Application deadline for both Safety and Craft Training Excellence Awards is March 1, 2022. Beginning in 2022, three $1500 Craft Training Grants will be awarded—one to each World Class winner of SEAA’s Craft Training Excellence awards program. Winners will be recognized during an awards ceremony at the SEAA Convention & Trade Show, and top winners are featured in an article in Connector magazine.

■ Get Free Hiring Software from SEAA +

SEAA’s Board of Directors in coordination with the Membership Committee has partnered with CareerPlug, an applicant tracking system, to better assist its members with the hiring process.

“No matter the size of your company, hiring is one of the biggest challenges our members face. If you’ve never used an applicant tracking system, I can tell you from personal experience, that this type of tool helped our company streamline our hiring processes,” said Jack Nix, COO for Shelby Erectors Inc., and Chairman of the Membership Committee.

Through this strategic partnership, every SEAA member will receive a free CareerPlug account that comes with a company branded careers page to showcase available job openings. SEAA members will have access to job templates, a configured hiring process to help evaluate your applicants, and access to a team of hiring experts.

SEAA members will have the option to upgrade the free account to a Premium Subscription, starting at $795/year. The upgraded subscription allows for unlimited job postings to top job boards like Indeed, ZipRecruiter, GoogleJobs, Facebook Jobs, and more. It also provides access to evaluation tools like personality assessments, interview scorecards, access to free one-on-one coaching (within the first 30 days of upgrading), text messaging, and paperless onboarding.

■ Membership Renewals Due December 31, 2021

Next year SEAA celebrates its 50th Anniversary. “As we head into 2022, I’m happy to report that SEAA is growing and remains in as strong a position as ever to support erectors, fabricators and general contractors,” said Pete Gum, Executive Director.

The Ironworker Craft Training Program and our DOL-approved apprenticeship program, remains one of the best benefits for members. Through our craft training program, members can also access training for riggers, signalpersons, and crane operators. Other perks include dozens of training videos, a $1000 discount on your AISC membership, free applicant tracking software, and resources for Fall Safety Stand Downs.

“To help you get the most out of your membership, we continue to offer networking opportunities at regional Meet & Greets, job fairs, new member/first timer receptions, and mentoring programs,” said Gum.
