Breakfast With Santa
Breakfast with Santa is a fun time each year! Some kids are in love with him and others are not! Haha. The kids enjoy a visit with Santa and tell him what is on
their list and they get to enjoy a donut and make some crafts to take home. It was a nice cool morning this year so having a warm coffee from the coffee truck made it even better. Thank you, Jack Mancini, with Keller Williams Realty for sponsoring all of these memorable events for these families.

NEW DAY, NEW YEAR (CHANGE IS ALWAYS FROM WITHIN)
A new year has begun. A great deal of pressure is placed on this big change. People expect changes to happen in their lives, expect new opportunities and perhaps a redefined hope that may be generally hard to find.
A date in the calendar alone isn’t going to bring any magnificent changes on its own. The marking of time is a human activity. We have devised a formula for indicating a day, a week, a month and in turn, a year.
While animals and plants adapt and react to the changes in temperature and seasons, there is no evidence that they mark time as we do, let alone plan out their lives long-term over time either.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s fun to celebrate the holidays with family and friends and ring in a new year with all it can bring ... but what it brings is truly up to us. Setting resolutions is not a bad thing if we understand that like setting goals at any time in our business or personal lives, it takes hard work, definitive action steps to bring the results that we desire.
Alone, 2025 will not bring anything to you. What will change in your life will be based on what you design that is realistic. Then, the actions you take day by day, week by week to achieve these very goals are crucial. Only then will you see the outcomes you desire. The potential for this change is already within you. Work it! Make it happen! And if you can’t do it alone or want support, consider aligning yourself with a trusted partner.
Happy, Healthy and Prosperous 2025!
“You can have a clean slate each day you wake up. You have a chance every single morning to make that change and be the person you want to be. You just have to decide to do it. Decide today’s the day. Say it; this is going to be my day.” – Brendon Burchard

STEPHANIE DRAY
BECOMING MADAM SECRETARY
“She took on titans, battled generals, and changed the world as we know it …”
New York Times bestselling author Stephanie Dray returns with a captivating and dramatic new novel about an American heroine Frances Perkins.
Raised on tales of her revolutionary ancestors, Frances Perkins arrives in New York City at the turn of the century, armed with her trusty parasol and an unyielding determination to make a difference.
When she’s not working with children in the crowded tenements in Hell’s Kitchen, Frances throws herself into the social scene in Greenwich Village, befriending an eclectic group of politicians, artists, and activists, including the millionaire socialite Mary Harriman Rumsey, the flirtatious budding author Sinclair Lewis, and the brilliant but troubled reformer Paul Wilson, with whom she falls deeply in love.
But when Frances meets a young lawyer named Franklin Delano Roosevelt at a tea dance, sparks fly in all the wrong directions. She thinks he’s a rich, arrogant dilettante who gets by on a handsome face and a famous name. He thinks she’s a priggish bluestocking and insufferable do-gooder. Neither knows it yet, but over the next twenty years, they will form a
historic partnership that will carry them both to the White House.
Frances is destined to rise in a political world dominated by men, facing down the Great Depression as FDR’s most trusted lieutenant—even as she struggles to balance the demands of a public career with marriage and motherhood. And when vicious political attacks mount and personal tragedies threaten to derail her ambitions, she must decide what she’s willing to do—and what she’s willing to sacrifice— to save a nation.

Bonita Springs Concert Band
JANUARY 19, RIVERSIDE PARK, 2 P.M. GUEST VOCALIST: JAMES JONES
The Bonita Springs Concert Band will present its next concert of the season Sunday, January 19 at 2 p.m. at Riverside Park in Downtown Old Bonita Springs. The band’s very special guest vocalist will be James Jones.
Jones will sing Al Jarreau’s So Good , and George Gershwin’s Summertime . The band will also perform the The Rifle Regiment by John Philip Sousa, When You Wish Upon a Star, and Pirates of the Caribbean .
At the age of 12, James knew he wanted to be a singer, after seeing the Fabulous James Brown perform at the Apollo Theatre. Although still very young, he landed a job at
the University of Connecticut as a part-time drama instructor. During his junior year, he switched majors to attain a bachelor’s degree in clinical psychology. He has had the fortunate opportunities to work with Kool and The Gang, Jonathan Butler, Marion Meadows and many others.
Members of the band are under the direction of Gary Smith who retired after 24 years as conductor of the University of Illinois Marching Illini Band and Symphonic Band. This is the 11th season that Gary has led the band. Gary says “the talent of these musicians is tremendous, ranging in age from 16 to 90.” Become a “Friend of the Band.” Find out more at www. bonitaspringsconcertband.org. THE
AVAILABILITY AND BENEFITS OF ROBOTIC SURGERY HAVE SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASED IN
SOUTHWEST FLORIDA
Robotic surgery is a minimally invasive technique that allows surgeons to perform procedures with greater precision, flexibility, and control. This method utilizes a robotic arm and specialized instruments, which the surgeon controls, often with a console or computer system. Please read the article to learn more about the benefits of this technology and its availability in our area at https://esterotoday.com/the-benefits-andavailability-of-robotic-surgery-have-significantlyincreased-in-southwest-florida/.
A meta-analysis from Massachusetts General Hospital published on Dec. 5, 2024, reviewed 230 operational procedures that included a mix of randomized robotic, laparoscopic, and open surgery. The key findings were:
1. Robotic surgery using the Intuitive da Vinci system has multiple benefits compared to laparoscopy and open surgery.
a. 56 percent less likely to convert to open surgery versus laparoscopy during the operational procedure.
b. 21 percent less likely to require blood transfusions versus laparoscopy and 75 percent versus open.
c. 10 percent less likely to experience 30day postop complications versus laparoscopy; 44 percent versus open.
d. half-day savings in hospital stay compared to laparoscopy and 1.9 days compared to open.
Although the operative time for robotic surgery was 17.7 minutes longer than laparoscopy and 40.9 minutes longer than open, as Dr. Klink,
Medical Director of Systems Robotics at Lee Health, also reported in the Engage Estero article, this is not a negative but more a function of the robotic instrumentation which can be used with finite control. CUTTING THE FINANCIAL CORD: SNIP, SNIP … OR TUGGING IT LOOSE?
Oh, the bittersweet joy of an empty nest! One moment, you’re teary-eyed, waving goodbye to your freshly launched offspring. The next, you’re standing in your quiet kitchen, noticing how your snack stash actually stays full for more than 24 hours. Whether your kids are off to college, the military, or their first apartment with questionable furniture choices, their departure leaves a void. But hey, voids can be filled—with peace, hobbies, and yes, a little extra cash.
Sure, it’s an emotional transition, but don’t dwell too long on those melancholic moments. Instead, take a beat to appreciate the glorious financial side of this life event. Your wallet might finally get to experience a little breathing room. With a plan in hand, you can move into this new chapter armed with financial freedom.
THE HOUSEHOLD EXODUS: WHEN BILLS TAKE A BOW
When two of our boys graduated high school, one headed to college, the other into the Navy, and suddenly our household population shrank by 50 percent. At first, it was eerily quiet. No blaring video games, no endless debates about whose turn it was to take out the trash. Then, I noticed something magical: our electric bill dropped. My grocery bill shriveled like a raisin in the sun. Even the water bill seemed to whisper, “Thanks for the break.”
Kids are expensive; we all know that. But when they leave, you realize just how much of your
money was hitching a ride on their adventures. Of course, some expenses stick around because supporting your kids financially never truly ends, right? At least, not until you decide it’s time to unleash them into the wild world of selfsufficiency.
SNIPPING THE CORD: ONE STRAND AT A TIME
When exactly do you go from doting financial sponsor to a hands-off observer? There’s no cookie-cutter answer—it’s a delicate dance of parenting, personality, and timing. But here’s the golden rule: Don’t yank the cord like you’re starting a lawn mower. Unravel it gently. Step one: Assess whether your kids have the financial chops to survive the big, bad world. If their budgeting skills start and stop at “Let’s Venmo, Mom,” it’s time for some lessons. Break out the textbooks—or at least some YouTube tutorials—on the essentials:
• Banking Basics: Checking, savings, and why hiding cash in a sock drawer isn’t ideal.
• Loans And Interest: The magic of compound interest (good) and the curse of credit card debt (bad).
• Retirement 101: Teach them about 401(k) s, Roth IRAs, and how future-them will thank present-them.
• Insurance Galore: Auto, health, renters— because life loves throwing curveballs.
Set a realistic timeline for this knowledge transfer. If it feels like they’re cramming for the adulting final exam, you’re on the right track.
THE GREAT FINANCIAL HAND-OFF
Once your budding adult has a grasp on the basics, it’s time to start handing over the reins. Think of it as a relay race: one responsibility at a time.
• Start Small: Maybe it’s their cell phone bill. You’ll be amazed at how much they suddenly care about unlimited data plans.
• Next Level: Car insurance—because nothing says “welcome to adulthood” like an auto premium.
• Big Leagues: Once they’re working full-time, they can tackle health insurance (and yes, they have to after age 26).
If they’re still living at home, consider a modest rent or contribution to utilities. And if they’re not working or in school? Well, it’s time for a serious family meeting (with deadlines and plans firmly on the agenda).
LIBERATION FOR ALL
Here’s the beauty of financial independence: it benefits both parties. Your child gets the confidence of knowing they can manage on their own. Meanwhile, you get to redirect those dollars toward your own goals—whether that’s padding your retirement savings, tackling that kitchen renovation, or finally splurging on that dream vacation.
And if you’re feeling overwhelmed, a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER ® is your superhero in disguise. They’ll help you map out a timeline, figure out what’s feasible for both you and your kids, and show you how those extra savings can turbocharge your financial future.
So, whether you’re snipping the cord or unraveling it strand by strand, remember: a little planning (and humor) goes a long way. Cheers to a lighter, brighter wallet—and to raising kids who can finally Venmo you for a change.
