on of 2020, a year that has proven itself to be one that has challenged all of us to the extreme. Resilience is NHW must commend our Neighbours for weathering everything with the grace, kindness and sensibility that you have. Seaford and Bishopstone have proven once again that ordinary people can, and do, achieve extraordinary things when they come together with common purpose.

There are a few organisations that must be commended for the body of work they have done for our town. First and foremost is the Seahaven Foodstore who rallied from the start and in quite challenging circumstances, grew their food parcel distribution from an already stretched 30 households to well over 150 households per week. Our ability as a community to help wherever needed is demonstrated in the volume of food, supplies and support given through this tumultuous year and our foodbank continues, because of our great community, to give to those most in need. Volunteers all, a round of applause from the neighbours to the Seahaven Foodstore – where Toucans (two cans) really do make all the difference and where sharing means everyone is fed.

The Seaford Rotary Clubs have stepped in across the entire community, most noticeably with the Storehouse, arranging funds, collection and delivery, and willing volunteers to pack, fetch and carry, and have shown once again that the heart of any town is in its people. This is great neighbourliness and again, the neighbours are applauding.

Seaford Town Football Club called the town to action to provide free school meals during half term – within hours of raising the call, the community rallied, as we do, with an astonishing sum of money and Morrisons stepped to the fore with donated food items. 62 fed, once again, by volunteers. Applause all round for an kindness and care.

another, and we here at Emergency Team svet.proffer.org. uk have been the backbone of community support since day one and have tirelessly and without falter provided support to the entire town, however that support may be needed. From fetching and carrying of medicines, groceries, food parcels and errand running to a friendship service calling isolated and lonely neighbours to keep in touch and in contact, the service they have given to our town is absolutely incredible. Again, entirely volunteer driven and run, we cannot heap more praise if we tried. They embody great neighbourliness and deserve our utmost gratitude and respect.

Sew Sussex www.sewsussex.co.uk started as a group of a dozen or so seamsters and grew in a matter of weeks to an army of over 2,000 who have not stopped sewing and with the help of S&BNHW, have produced nigh on a hundred thousand wearables and scrubs to support the NHS. They realised early on that to get through, they have to travel together and we are delighted that these sewing champs have formed a fully established social enterprise out of their good works and continue wherever they are needed.

There are many more to mention and for our neighbours who have helped, fetched, carried, cared, stepped in, donated, volunteered and through their willingness, carried us through – you make our town the best there is. We exemplify neighbourliness. We did not get caught in neighbourhood snitching – we were too busy helping.

As the year draws to a close, lets take the good from 2020 with us. The kindness, the cheer, the sharing, the caring, and keep building our resilience. There is hope on the horizon for vaccines and cures, but the journey ahead is still a long one as we recover and rebuild. In closing, a message from our Chairman, Mark Brown.

Dear Neighbours, We have been through very turbulent times with the onslaught of CoviD-19, Government lockdowns and everchanging rules and regulations. The way we have behaved as a town through these times is exemplary and our thanks as a committee to all for being safe harbour in stormy seas to so many.

Please be assured that our Neighbourhood Watch Association continues to function, and your committee is managing to meet through video conference meetings on Zoom. We will continue to keep you informed of events as they unfold through our Email and website programme.

We recently made a retirement presentation of a silver bowl to Fred Newman who is one of the longest serving members on our committee. For over four decades he has served on the Neighbourhood Watch, and his words of wisdom and advice will be much missed. This year the Legion is suffering from a severe shortfall in income as due to CoviD-19 poppy collectors are not able to collect from door to door and in shopping venues.

on behalf of the committee i wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and the hope that we will all be able to celebrate with friends and family. Let’s light up our town with care and good cheer regardless.

Stay safe and well. Mark Brown, Chairman.
