Cradle Hill Community School Celebrates Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

CRAdLE HiLL COMMuNiTy SCHOOL CELEBRATES QuEEN’S PLATiNuM JuBiLEE

The pupils of Cradle Hill Community School celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by having a week of activities and celebrations.

The week started by officially opening the school’s time tunnel. Each of the seven year groups created a section of the tunnel to celebrate the decades of our Queen’s reign. i 1950s: saw Rock ’n’ Roll, Rosa Parks and film stars like Marilyn Monroe. i 1960s: England win the World Cup, Concorde’s first flight and the first man on the moon. i 1970s: the decimal coins come into circulation, fashion change and pop. i 1980s: the Berlin Wall come down, Band Aid and Prince William and Harry born. i 1990s: new toys including the Teletubbies and Furbies. i 2000s: The Eden Project, the first iPhone, YouTube and Harry Potter. i 2010s & 2020s: new Royal babies, clap for carers, COVID and Captain Tom. The Children then celebrated by learning dances from the decades including rock ’n’ roll, the hand jive, disco and hip hop. The school then attended a tree planting ceremony at Paradise Park gardens with all the other schools in the area to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in their special Jubilee garden.

On Friday 27th May in the afternoon the Deputy Mayor of Seaford attended the schools official planting of the Queen’s Green Canopy at the school. The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) is a

unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 which invites people from across the United Kingdom to Plant a Tree for the Jubilee. (Canopy, 2022). The day was finished off with a whole school picnic party on the school field for all 615 pupils and around 80 staff and volunteers.

Mrs Keith, Head Teacher said, ‘It was a fantastic week for the children, learning all about the Queen and the decades she has reigned. Our staff arranged a wide range of exciting activities that I hope will ensure all our children have made memories that will stay with them throughout their lives’.
