Seaford Rotary is 75 years Young

Towards the end of 1946 a group of Seaford businessmen met for lunch in a small upstairs room at Granny’s Tea Shop in Clinton Place, now Olliver’s Restaurant. Amongst them was Stanley Blomfield, a past member of Hove Rotary Club and two Rotarians from the Brighton Club, Alfred Gardner and Harry Symes. Their meeting was to discuss the possibility of forming a Rotary Club in Seaford. These informal lunches continued each week until numbers had increased to 24, when it was decided that things should be taken a step further.

donation to Guide dogs for the Blind

Last March whilst the country was in lockdown due to the COVID pandemic, a talk was given remotely via Zoom to Seaford Rotary by Mick Etheridge and Pam Byrne from The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association, known under its working title as Guide Dogs.

After the presentation, it was agreed that the club would make a donation to support this charity, and that this should be done in person once the lockdown was over, and it was possible to meet again face to face. Thus, on 12th January, both Mick Etheridge accompanied by his guide dog Onyx and Pam Byrne accompanied by her guide dog Poppy attended the lunchtime meeting when the donation was formerly handed to them. Their two guide dogs sat obediently whilst lunch was served. After lunch the donation cheque was presented by Vice President Ann Reed. Seaford Rotary welcomes new members and new Friends of Seaford Rotary. For more information contact us on www.seafordrotary.org.uk.
