For their next production, Meeching Amateur Dramatics (MAD) will be taking you back to the Regency Period, a colourful and turbulent time in our history. Set in the 18th century, ‘Haggard’ tells the story of Squire Amos Haggard, constantly hard up, lecherous, dishonest and drunk, conceived and brought to life by Eric Chappell of Rising Damp fame.
Haggard is assisted by Grunge, his hapless but loyal servant; and his son Roderick, both of whom are always drawn into Haggard’s schemes. The three of them blunder their way through a series of misadventures including a wedding, a brush with pirates, a duel, and the plague! With its parallel to Blackadder, this comedy moves along at a fast pace.
