This winter join SCIP to explore the beauty of sketchbook artworks, the start of a new project, the experiments and the ideas which evolve into a finished artwork with a collection of sketches donated by some of the UK’s best known illustrators including: Jon McNaught, Adam Stower, Rob Biddulph, Natsko Seki, Graham Carter, Peter Quinnell, Shelly Laslo, Chris Haughton, John Bond, Lyndon Hayes, Margo McDaid, Ayang Cempaka, Joe Munro and many more.

The exhibition is designed to highlight the freedom of sketching and show how ideas can grow from experimenting and practising. Come and experience this unique opportunity to glimpse into the artists’ creative process. All the sketches will be included in an online auction, which anyone can bid on. The funds will be used to help deliver their forthcoming creative programme for Seaford, including a large public arts project for 2022 and the new SCIP Youth programme. Alongside the exhibition SCIP will be providing free children’s art workshops on the Saturday and Sunday to learn the art of sketch booking.

‘The idea is to encourage children to experience creative freedom, where the rule book is thrown out and they are given an opportunity to experiment with shape and pattern, shading, textures, and learn to gather all their ideas in one place without any need for a final artwork – it can be a liberating experience for children and is an important part of enjoying your own creativity’ says Alice Carter, SCIP Co-Founder. The workshops are free to attend but spaces are limited so please book online at www.wearescip.co.uk – suitable for age 5+. The sketchbooks for the workshops have all been generously donated by Seawhite of Brighton. On Saturday 20th November, older children and teenagers (aged 11–8) and their parents/ guardians are invited to join the SCIP team to learn about the new SCIP Youth programme. SCIP are looking for young people aged 11–18 to be part of the youth group to help the organisation create exhibitions and workshops which will engage and challenge their generation.

‘We have spent much of 2021 researching the contemporary arts provisions in Seaford, and we were concerned by the lack of creative opportunities for young people and also funding cuts for the arts in the curriculum. We worked with our trustees to design SCIP Youth programme giving young people in Seaford the opportunity to have a say and a hand in the local art scene’ says Josie Swan, SCIP Co-Founder.

The SCIP Youth programme will be open to any children living in Sussex aged 11–18 and the group will meet every two to three months to discuss SCIP Workshops and exhibition programmes, feedback on creative ideas and learn some new creative skills too! SCIP Youth is not an arts club, it’s an ideas hub, and a chance for older children to have a voice about the culture on offer within their community. An interest in the arts is essential but participants don’t need to be skilled.

The SCIP Youth launch presentation is on Saturday 20th November from 3pm at The Crypt Gallery. No need to book just come along, and if you are unable to attend and would like more information about joining SCIP Youth please email hello@wearescip.co.uk Bidding on the sketches starts on 17th November and links to the auction lots will be available via www. wearescip.co.uk and the Sketch Show exhibition.
