A cautious reopening

Incoming Chairman Jane keel announced: ‘We are delighted to finally be able to say that we hope to be reopening the Museum on a limited basis towards the end of September. Please look at our Facebook page and our web site for opening dates, times and details as it is an ever moving situation.’
‘It has been a very long time and things will of course have to be slightly different with a strict social distancing policy and other necessary measures to keep everyone as safe as possible, but we are sure everyone will understand.
‘The Museum is so packed with artefacts and exhibits that we have had to devise a one-way route around the Museum to try to keep all our visitors and volunteers safe.
Thankfully, we have had excellent support and advice from a specialist on how best to achieve this, and we are very much looking forward to welcoming visitors back to our Museum again!’
‘One exhibit is having to be changed completely. The Edwardian village shop with its superb display of grocery packs and tins from over 100 years ago has had to be totally dismantled. Unfortunately, during the process of installing our new dehumidification system, we discovered quite substantial water damage, which had obviously accumulated over the years. The extent of the damage was such that we decided to use the fact that we weren’t open to completely revamp the shop. And all praise to our Heavy Gang maintenance volunteers who are doing a magnificent job! ‘It is likely that the Edwardian shop – complete with the very popular cash transport system – will be not be ready when we reopen but visitors will be able to observe “a museum at work”- not quite Open All Hours, but the shop will be there,” Jane continued. ‘When we reopen, the Museum will have to be run a little differently from before with lots of precautions and we will have additional volunteer stewards on hand to keep things running smoothly.’
If any reader feels that they would like to get involved with the Museum in any capacity, all volunteers will be most welcome. Please contact Seaford Museum via info@seafordmuseum.co.uk or leave a message on 01323 899222.
