Top Stories — 2011 Supporting Our Communities: BNY Mellon employees in New York raise money for children with special needs June 21, 2011 Ten BNY Mellon employees recently participated in the seventh annual Walk for St. Mary's Kids and Family Fun Day at Belmont Park Racetrack in Elmont, New York. Sponsored by St. Mary's Healthcare System for Children, the event raises funds for special needs children and their families in the New York metropolitan region. Participants like Jeannie Hermosura, Executive Assistant to Sanjay Kannambadi, CEO of BNY Mellon Clearing, walked to improve the quality of life for children with special needs.
A team of BNY Mellon employees recently participated in the Walk for St. Mary's Kids and Family Fun Day to improve the quality of life for children with special needs.
Captained by Jeannie, Team BNY Mellon raised nearly $12,000, which included $8,070 in team fundraising and a matching donation from the company's Community Partnership program, more than any other team at the event. 'St. Mary's was very happy to have a corporate donor like BNY Mellon participate in this event,' Jeannie said. 'Everyone did an outstanding job of contributing to a great cause.' The team was inspired by Jeannie's niece, Chloe Atienza, who has hydrocephalus, or a buildup of fluid inside the skull; hearing loss; seizure disorder and considerable developmental delays after having bacterial meningitis nearly two years ago. Because of this, Chloe is unable to complete simple mobility functions without complete assistance, including sitting, standing and rolling. 'Thanks to the generosity of our donors, St. Mary's will be able to provide pediatric care and therapies Chloe and other children will need,' said Eileen Weiss, Director of Development at St. Mary's. Jeannie raised $7,465 of the team's total, more than any other individual at the event. The event also included arts and crafts, face painting, live entertainment and the New York AutoFest Car Show.
