Ryanair To Add To Existing Fleet Swords based Ryanair’s earnings have gone from strength to strength in the last year, when they have been able to take advantage of the European economy’s current upswing to help aide its financial climb. Ryanair consistently come out on top of competitors in terms of profitability. Cementing this is the fact that their passenger fares are a whopping 34 per cent less than that of Wizz Air, the airline’s biggest competitors in terms of

tariff range. Not only making waves in the low cost segment, Ryanair are currently turning out a business model to build toward its new venture ‘Business Plus’. To help push this forward, they are currently working on a complete rebrand. This will include the addition of luxury services and plane refurbishments. They are also set to take on 28 new planes, which will add to their existing fleet of 312 aircraft. Off the back of a hedged oil price, Ryanair predict that they will make a saving of around €430 million in the coming financial year. If this holds true, this saving will mean further cuts to air fares which will significantly turn up the heat on their rivals.

A Fitting Memorial To Ross A new room, which is located at the Oncology Ward at Beaumont Hospital, has been officially opened by RTE personality, Marty Whelan. The new room was funded by the Ross Nugent Foundation, which was set up following the death of Malahide teenager, Ross Nugent in 2010. The architecturally designed chill-out room, called The Glade is set to change the lives of cancer patients by allowing them to sit and relax in a calming “nonhospital” environment. It is all down to the Ross Nugent Foundation.

Prior to his sad death from cancer in 2010, Ross had made a promise that he would like to do something for patients attending the hospital for chemotherapy. Basic things like blood pressure equipment and comfortable chairs were top of his list of requirements. When the Ross Nugent Foundation was set up, it began providing equipment to make patients’ stay at the hospital more comfortable. Ross’s father, Don Nugent said, “Our son Ross received the very best care at this hospital before he passed away. We strongly believe that rooms

Charity Walk For Brave Karl A charity walk has been organised for a remarkable 17 year old boy Rush boy, Karl Wyer, who has numerous medical problems. He was diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome when he was one year old. The walk, which is called Santa Hat Walk for Karl will take place on Saturday, 5th December starting at 2pm. The 5 km walk will start at Round Towers GAA club and will take the walkers around Lusk, finishing at Round Towers clubhouse. Afterward there will be entertainment for all the family, with face painting, a DJ and a raffle. Karl is an amazing strong and happy young man. Although his diagnosis is Angel Karl Angelman Syndrome, he also suffers from severe scoliosi, epilepsy and is paralysed on the left hand due to a stroke he had at the age of one. Throughout the years, he has been in the hospital on a regular basis and went through many terrifying illnesses. Only recently, Karl suffered from serious recurring

such as The Glade can benefit the patient, as well as their families and helps them, at least for a while, forget why they are here,” he said. The Glade Room was the result of a promise that Ross made when he was attending the Oncology Ward at Beaumont. The area needed proper equipment and needed to be more patient focused. Ross vowed to his mother that when he had beaten the cancer, he would work towards raising enough money to buy a new one for Beaumont Hospital. His parents, Sandra and Don recalled the promise Ross made,

chest infections that are due to aspirating, tests have confirmed. Pneumonia and regular infections come this with illness, making his health deteriorate quickly. Surgery to get a peg tube fitted for him is impossible, as his scoliosis and chest infections are too severe. A family member said, “We have no options left. It is heartbreaking to be told that you cannot do anything else to help your child, we have no words for this feeling. Karl needs a 24 hour care which requires a lot of time.” “Karl also needs a lot of new medical equipment and extra treatment to keep his chest functioning. In order to handle his life limiting condition, we try to raise funds and put together a proper care plan for him as quickly as possible. Unfortunately we cannot afford all the equipment that he needs as it is quite expensive, like the c-pap machine which alone costs €6,000.” “We are trying to keep our strengths up to keep our beautiful, smiling boy as healthy as we can. Those who know Karl just adore him and we hope that we can get the care he needs,” the family spokesperson said.

and along with his sister, Emma thought about how they could come up with a fitting memorial for Ross and they remembered his promise. The Glade Room fitted the bill perfectly. The foundation had the room designed by wellknown architect, Andrew Lohan. The floor in the room looks like grass and the walls have a calming effect of

a forest landscape. Patients can chill out on new leather armchairs, while they listen to music or watch a movie on TV. It’s all a far cry from how things were and it’s all down to the vision of Ross. The initial reaction of patients is that they love the place and that it is a fitting legacy to Ross. The foundation has funded 150 pieces of equipment for the Oncology and Haematology departments of Beaumont Hospital to date.

Senior Citizens Bring Christmas Cheer

Skerries Students Win Award At Scifest 2015

Swords Senior Citizens Centre were proud to hand over 69 shoe boxes for the Team Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal on Thursday last There to award them with a certificate for their efforts and to collect the boxes, was Team Hope representative, Neville Pigott.

Local students, Sophie Sheahan and Adam McGrane from Skerries Community College were recently awarded an Excellence in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) award.

By Aoife Read The senior citizens went all out to ensure that there were plenty of boxes created. They were beautifully presented, with ribbons and Christmas themed wrapping adorning each one. A proud Noeleen Byrne said: “When you think that these are all pensioners here, it’s so great to see how much effort they all put in. It’s such a lovely thing to see,” she said. Given that the centre had only been told about the appeal a couple of weeks ago, the amount of boxes put together in that time is extremely heart warming and a real accomplishment. Speaking to the County Leader, Neville said “We collected 170,000 boxes last year and we hope to improve on that number this year.” When asked about the destination of the boxes Neville said, “The boxes from Swords will be going to organised distributors across eastern Europe. They contain items like toys, pens, pencils, notepads and other small items.”

Balbriggan Meals On Wheels The Balbriggan Meals on Wheels Christmas Fair will take place on Saturday, 28th of November from 10am to 1pm. Please donate any unwanted presents, Christmas decorations or toys that are in good condition. Drop off your donations into the kitchen, all the support is greatly appreciated!

Pictured at The Swords Senior Citizens Centre are members Eileen Power and Treasa Byrne holding the certificate from Team Hope for their excellent contribution for the Shoebox Appeal

This year, the senior citizens were focusing on toys and stationery rather than food items. “These kinds of presents are what we are leaning towards this year as we are sending them out to places like orphanages where the children are already ok for food, so the onus is on giving children who normally wouldn’t receive a Christmas present the opportunity to get one,“ said Neville. Pictured are Swords men, Martin McDowell and Ronan Guerin, who will undertake a 127 km Wicklow Way mountain trek for Pieta House and Suicide prevention

Our aim is to raise €1270, which equates to €10 per kilometre,” said Ronan. Martin said, “It is an appropriate sentiment that we are doing it at the coldest time of the year and not in the middle of summer with long evenings and plenty of light. We hope that this will mirror some of the hardship that people experience through the suicide of a loved one.” The aim is to set out after midnight (00:01am) on Monday, 28th December starting in the small country village of Clonegal, Co. Carlow. They will continue on course through the rolling hills of County Wicklow and en-route across the Wicklow and Dublin mountains to hopefully complete their trek in less than 48 hours before midnight (11:59pm) on Tuesday 29th December, finishing at Marley Park in Rathfarnham. The group will not have any sleep and will continue right to the end. Ronan said,” We would ask that donations be made through www.mycharity.ie “127k Wicklow Way for Suicide Prevention” and any donation, no matter how small will be thankfully received.

Two Swords men are among a group of four, who are undertaking a mammoth challenge this December, to raise money for Pieta House and awareness of Suicide Prevention. Their goal is to walk the Wicklow Way, a 127 kms mountain trek in just 48 hours. This seemingly impossible task faces Ronan Guerin from River Valley and Martin McDowell from Swords Manor, who will be joined by two others, one from Longford and the other from Dundalk as they undertake this massive project. All four are members of the defence forces. Suicide has become an ever increasing issue within Irish society and the walkers want to bring awareness of help that is available to those in dark places, particularly at Christmas time, for both those struggling and also those who have been left behind or have lost loved ones to suicide. Ronan (24) is a member of the Ar tillery Regiment based in Athlone, and Martin (29) is a member of the Reserve Defence Force at Cathal Brugha Barracks. Both men spoke to the County Leader about how the idea to hike the Wicklow Way came about. Ronan said, “My family, like many across the country, has experienced the pain of suicide and I wanted to do something to raise awareness. A few of us talked about doing the Wicklow Way previously and I thought if I was going to do something like this, I’d like to mark the occasion by raising funds and awareness of suicide prevention,” he said. Originally it was planned to complete it in three or four days, but we decided to make it as tough as possible.

Malahide resident and Fair City star, Aoibheann McCaul encouraged us to ‘save our breath’ at the launch of the COPD campaign. The campaign will coincide with World COPD on Thursday 19th November from 11am until 2.30pm. COPD, or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, is estimated to affect thousands of people across Ireland, including many here in the North County. Ann Murphy, head of COPD Support Ireland’s Dublin Support Group, is urging people to check in when the tour visits the city. “Many people may not know what COPD is and perhaps might be more familiar with conditions such as emphysema or bronchitis which come under the COPD umbrella. I would strongly encourage those who may have concerns to come along to the Pillar Room at the Rotunda Hospital and to get themselves checked out by expert medical and health professionals” she said.

Climate Change Competition Launched A competition, aimed at primary schools is being run in conjunction with An Taisce, to design a logo for the Climate Change Advisory Council (CCAC) has been launched. Professor John Fitzgerald, Chairman of the Climate Change Advisory Council, together with Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government Alan Kelly T.D., Minister for Education and Skills

Jan O’Sullivan T.D performed the launch. Minister Kelly said, “This competition is an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of climate change amongst the younger generation and to encourage children from an early age to play their part in advancing Ireland’s response to the issue over the coming years and decades.” He continued that it is of prime importance that the Council

establishes itself from the start as an independent advisor to Government on the issue of Climate Change. “I would like to encourage all primary schools to take part in this competition. I am sure that there are some extremely talented, young designers out there in the nation’s primary schools who can provide the Council with a unique and enduring logo,” he said. Minister O’Sullivan said, “The competition aims to raise awareness, sustainability and real engagement with modern challenges like climate change and reducing the carbon footprint for everyone.”

Swords based gift voucher company, One4all has opened entries for the inaugural National One4all Spotlight Awards, which will shine a light on those employees who go the extra mile and deserve special recognition within their organisations. One4all has launched the Awards in partnership with the Dublin Chamber of Commerce to reward staff throughout Ireland and help boost morale of companies and staff alike. In a recent One4all survey, 42 per cent of staff stated that they would be more likely to stay with a company that cares. With this in mind, One4all believe rewarding employees who go the extra mile is now more important than ever. The One4all Spotlight Awards will recognise the great work that employees do, while understanding that companies are not always in a

09

position to offer monetary rewards to staff. The One4all Spotlight Awards are open to all Irish companies. Applications will be judged by an independent panel consisting of business experts. Entries are open until November 30th 2015 and can be submitted, in confidence, through the One4all website. Simply nominate your chosen employee or colleague and explain why you feel they should receive recognition in 300 words. The overall winner will receive the recognition they deserve and have a chance to win a prize of up to €500. Speaking at the One4all Spotlight Awards launch, Michael Dawson, CEO of One4all said: ‘Many employees fail to get the recognition they deserve for the positive contribution they make in the workplace. Some employers are suffering from the effects of the recession, so the Spotlight Awards will help employers recognise their staff without costing a penny.’ Gina Quin from Dublin Chamber of Commerce added: “SMEs are definitely more optimistic about the future, but many still suffer with cash flow issues and access to finance can still be a real problem. The One4all Spotlight Awards will remind staff that great work is appreciated by employers.”

Emergency Workers Need Protection Local senator Darragh O’Brien (FF) has called on the Government to protect emergency workers with specific legislation making it an offence to attack emergency personnel on duty. Senator O’Brien made the call following disturbing incidents over the Halloween weekend when fire services were attacked while battling a fire in Balbriggan and Gardaí were called to provide assistance. “Fire crews from Balbriggan, Skerries, Finglas and Swords were attacked when tackling a fire in Balbriggan on Halloween night. Fortunately none of the crews were injured but Gardaí had to attend to help.” “it was very alarming to hear stories of ambulance and fire personnel coming under attack over the Halloween weekend.” He went on to say that “It has been obvious for quite some time that we do not have strong enough legislation in place to protect gardaí, fire officers, paramedics and other emergency personnel.”

O’Brien Blasts Varadkar Over Outpatient Figures

‘True Dublin’ - A Review C.J. McCanney’s,’True Dublin’ casts a sepia toned eye on the capital city’s past, giving us a unique look at Dublin’s fair city where the girls are so pretty. In the 1800’s while the rest of the country was being ravaged by famine, Dublin was in a far different economic and social climate. It was a bustling and thriving city, far removed from the troubles of our rural countrymen. Similarly, in the early decades of the 1900’s when the rest of Europe was being ravaged by war, Dublin remained for the most part, unscathed, having no real stake in a war being fought on foreign soil. In his book, McCanney documents the city and its outskirts from the troubled 1800’s through to the roaring 20’s.

Through photographs, advertisements, and other rare documents, this remarkable collection depicts a significant time in Ireland’s history. It presents us with a glimpse at the time in which our country went from being part of the United Kingdom and a member of the Great British Empire, to being members of our own Free State, and the birth of The Republic of Ireland as we know it now. Allowing us the opportunity to visualise the city’s tumultuous and chequered past, Dubliners will love this book. It’s full of information about both the county and city of Dublin. The stunning and occasionally stark imagery of the book is accompanied by snippets of text and explanations for each picture. The book

While each picture chosen is striking and has its own story to tell, the book as a whole, tells the story of the coming of age of a city in a world that was just a little bit ahead of it. Carefully put together, beautifully presented, insightful and informative, C. J. McCanney’s True Dublin shows, that it was, and still is, a lot more than just a Dirty Old Town. Local senator, Darragh O’Brien (FF) has accused the Minister for Health of failing to acknowledge the extent of the crisis in the health service. His comments come as latest figures show that some outpatient waiting lists have dramatically increased by over 600 per cent, since the Minister took over the portfolio. “Since Leo Varadkar became Minister for Health, the number of outpatients waiting for more than 12 months for an appointment at Beaumont Hospital has risen more than 626 per cent, from 658 in July 2014 to a staggering 4,778 in October 2015. This is completely unacceptable.” O’Brien said, “These figures speak for themselves. Beaumont is the hospital

of choice for many people in the North County. Behind each number is a person or family, who are trying to access our health service. The truth is that the situation is getting worse, with winter now upon us.” “Beaumont does not have the capacity to handle a health crisis. The minister needs to take a more handon approach. all he does is comments on how bad things are, without doing anything about it. Under his stewardship, the health problem is getting worse. It’s time for Minister Varadkar and this Government to wake up and recognise the very serious problem facing our hospitals and the health service in general,” concluded O’Brien

Early morning commuters in Dublin were surprised by large four-foot wrapped model dogs across key locations in the city to launch the Charity’s ‘A Dog is for Life, Not Just For Christmas’ message. The dogs were ‘abandoned’ around Dublin city to provoke discussion around buying a puppy as a Christmas gift. More than 1,000 abandoned and unwanted dogs come through their doors every year, with notable increases in phone calls from members of the public looking to surrender their unwanted dogs post Christmas. Over 430 people celebrated Business Excellence and Corporate Responsibility at the Fingal Business Excellence & Corporate Responsibility Gala Awards Evening. These awards were instituted in 2002 and pay tribute to the talent, drive, innovation and success of the business community in the area. The gala black tie event was held in the Crowne Plaza Northwood on Friday last, 13th November. The awards also recognise the efforts of companies to promote excellence in the quality of their products, over a number of categories. This competition is open to all businesses or organisations, both large or small doing business in the Fingal area, be it in retail, manufacturing, services or the tourism/hospitality sector. The awards night is always well attended and eagerly anticipated by all. The event, which is

the highlight of the Fingal Dublin Chamber calendar celebrates business excellence in the region. This was the 13th Annual Fingal Business Excellence Awards which are a hallmark of excellence for all businesses in the area. The Chamber Awards recognise and congratulate the business leaders who drive innovative business processes, product development, enterprise, sustainability and

overall business success across all sectors. Guests included County Mayor, Cllr David O’Connor, who kicked off proceedings by congratulating all those who were nominated for awards. Other attendees on the night included Senator Darragh O’Brien, Fingal County Council Chief Executive, Paul Reid, Ian Talbot, CEO of Chambers Ireland, as well as a gathering of Fingal councillors. It was a bitter sweet

evening for Chamber President, Siobhan Kinsella, for whom this was her last time to attend these awards as president. She will hand over the reins of president to Guy Thompson of Castleknock Hotel at the end of the year. There were 22 award winners in total on the night from a total of 170 businesses that were shortlisted. The highlight of the Awards night is the presentation of the JC Savage Business Person of the Year award, which was won by Tom Keogh of Keogh Crisps. This award was instituted in 2010, in memory of JC Savage, who was a founding member of the Chamber back in 1994. To honour his

As usual, the evening was MC’d by the excellent Marty Whelan, who entertained guests with his witty repartee, while

keeping the award winners on their toes with some searching and humorous comments about what they do and why they believed they were selected as winners. It all led to a wonderful atmosphere, which carried on well into the night. The first award of the night was won by Dublin Airport in the category of Development in People. In her acceptance speech, Siobhan O’Donnell

paid an emotional tribute to her work colleague, Nicola Radford, who sadly passed away earlier this year. In his speech, Chamber CEO, Tony Lambert added to the great atmosphere when he asked companies that were nominated for awards to stand up. This led to companies trying to out-shout each other, creating a wonderful atmosphere. He also thanked compere,

Marty Whelan for his unique contribution to the awards night each year. You stand out as shining examples to all other businesses. “There is so much to celebrate within the business community here in Fingal and it is important for us to ensure that we recognise the commitment, dedication and achievement of the management and staff in all our businesses. Each year we have applications from across a wide range of

companies, organisations and business sectors telling their story of excellence and detailing their commitment to corporate responsibility and we thank you for sharing your stories with us. He also paid tribute to the judges and recognised the difficult task they had in choosing a shortlist and eventual winners. “The judging of the Business Awards is always a difficult and arduous task and I would like to thank Jill and Patricia from Spotcheck for carrying out this very important work with such professionalism and attention to detail. Spotcheck are our independent judges for the awards and they trawled through

nity to hold the office of President of this dynamic and professional Chamber.” In a moving tribute to her father, John P Kinsella, who was present on the night, she said he was her mentor, her sounding board and her friend and she thanked him for his unwavering support in all that she did. Fingal County Council Chief Executive, Paul Reid spoke about the progress surrounding the economic trends in Fingal. “These trends are very positive in Fingal. Consumer sentiment has been very good, with September experiencing the highest rate since 2003. We’re also seeing indicators like new car sales up by 20 per cent year on year.” He also spoke about

the outstanding success of Dublin Airport, with over 21 million passengers using the airport up to September alone.” He also cited planning applications as a very positive indicator of the growth in the region, with a 27 per cent increase on last year. JC Savage Award

Drop In Youth Unemployment Local TD Alan Farrell (FG) has welcomed the positive effect of CSO figures that show a reduction in unemployment to 9.3 per cent in the North County. “I am pleased to see that unemployment levels continue to decrease, with the unemployment level now standing at 9.3 per cent, down from a high of 15.1 per cent in February 2012,” Farrell said. “Furthermore, it is positive that youth unemployment has now dropped to a six year low. This is particularly pleasing considering the fall in the number of people emigrating. In fact, youth unemployment has fallen from 30.9 per cent in February 2012 to 19.7 per cent today,” he added.

While welcoming the great news, Farrell continued that the youth unemployment rate still remains far too high. A continuation of the work of Government in promoting investment and job creation is essential to ensure youth unemployment levels continue to decrease. “Over 125,000 jobs have been created since the Action Plan for Jobs was launched in February 2012. Between February 2012 and September 2015 the youth unemployment level has fallen by 43.7 per cent in the Balbriggan social welfare office and by 47.6 per cent in the Swords social welfare office,” Farrell further stated. “These unemployment figures show that we are making

good progress. Fine Gael has a plan to do by strengthening our economic recovery and further promoting job

17.11.2015 creation. This will generate the resources to invest in services that people in the North County and across the country depend upon,” he concluded.

College Awareness Week The second College Awareness Week will take place from the 23rd to the 29th of November this year. Local schools, colleges and community groups have been encouraged to get involved in the campaign that is launched by Minister Jan O’Sullivan. College Awareness Week aims to promote the benefits of going to collage and to inform and inspire all students about the importance of having a post-secondary plan. It advocates for students to have the choice to pursue the course best suited to their interests, abilities and future plan. Communities across Ireland, including those of the North County, are invited to host events in community centres, schools, colleges, libraries and other venues to raise awareness of opportunities available. All activities make a valuable contribution to the nationwide campaign. “I’m delighted to be supporting College Awareness Week for the second year. Committing to third level study can be a daunting process for many people, so it’s important that they are supported and made aware of all of the options available,” Minister O’Sullivan said.

Well known author, Oisin McGann paid a visit to Skerries Community College recently, as part of the school's DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) programme. Considering the start to November, we have been eased into Winter with higher than normal temperatures, but colder weather is looming large. This will probably change during the upcoming weeks as Winter progresses at a very fast pace. We should take advantage of the extra time we have and prepare our

homes for cooler temperatures. First of all, make sure your plumbing is not vulnerable to freezing temperatures. This can cause pipes to burst which ends with huge water damages and the growth of mould. So weatherproof your plumbing and shut down the supply of water to any outdoor pipes.

Check your roof for any loose of missing slates and gaps around the chimney. Contact professional help in the locality if the damage is evident and needs some restoration. Be especially watchful of areas around windows, doors and your foundation where water might intrude or ice could form. Speaking of leaking spots around your house, it is the time of the year where you can store your light curtains in your attic and get some heavier ones. They can protect you from any draughts that come in through leaking windows and help keeping the warmth inside. Stores across the North County offer a lot of products on discount right now that you can purchase among other useful features for your house in winter.

Our first consideration is to provide our customers with a product that is of the highest quality at a good price and, most importantly, always adhering to, or exceeding the latest safety standards. We have installations locally in most major parks, many shops and business premises and at Dublin Airport, where we have manufactured and installed one of the largest sliding gates in Ireland, located at

Fingal Engineering are agents for a number of Italian companies in Ireland, including Tau Automation from Vicenza, Combi Arialdo in Milan as well as DPS Promatic from Forli, with whom the company manufacture GSM products including gate openers and GSM intercoms. Other agencies include Maviflex High Speed Doors, located in Lyon, France, Autogard Traffic Barriers from the Czech Republic, and they are the sole agents in Ireland for Nassau Doors from Denmark. Final Stage For Children First Bill The Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (ISPCC) has welcomed the passage of the final stages of the Children First Bill. The legislation aims at ensuring a robust and effective child protection system in the locality and beyond. “The passage of the

Children First legislation through the Dáil is a milestone for child protection in Ireland.”

By Olivia Leth SPCC Chief Executive Grainia Long said. “As has been uncovered in recent years, far too many children were failed by a state that did not intervene to

protect them from abuse. Long overdue, this legislation will ensure that all those who provide services to children are required to commit to their protection through systems and procedures for child protection and child safety.” The passage of the

Disappointment Over Government’s Seanad Reform Delay The Union of Students in Ireland has criticised the Taoiseach’s delay on reforming the Seanad. The decision was announced after 40,000 new students were registered to vote by the USI and after 80 per cent of surveyed students said they would vote for another party in the General Election after seeing the Budget priorities. Currently, only graduates of Trinity and the National Universities of Ireland are eligible to vote for six of the sixty seats in the Seanad. Two years ago the Taoiseach proposed to expand the electorate for these six seats from the current 151,000 to as many as

800,000 people. Recently he said these changes will not be implemented before the next election. “The Government’s decision to postpone their commitment to reform the Seanad is frustrating,” USI president, Kevin Donoghue, said. “There has been a huge surge in students wanting their voices to be heard, which was clear between the 40,000 new students registering to vote this year. The people made clear they wanted to see a reformed Seanad when they voted to keep it in 2013. That reform should happen sooner rather than later,” he concluded.

Importance Of Social Media For Businesses Ireland is currently the European headquarters for Twitter, Facebook and Google which is making the country a social media hub of the world. According to recent studies, 20 per cent of Irish companies, including businesses in the North County, have said that they are still uncomfortable using the social media as a primary marketing function. This is astonishing as there are 94 per cent of Irish people that have at least one social media platform. Local businesses should realise the importance of being represented in the social media market. Studies have shown that 38 per cent of small businesses using social media platforms feel that they are using the wrong social media type. This outlines the main problem faced by businesses of the locality and beyond, which is how to choose the social media platform that suits their purpose best.

O’Brien Urges Voters To Register Green Party General Election candidate, Joe O’Brien has urged the electorate to come out in force for the general election in 2016, as a mark of respect to those who sacrificed so much in 1916 and in the following War of Independence and civil war. Mr. O’Brien’s Grandfather served as a Commandant in the Irish Volunteers in Cork in 1916. O’Brien stated that, “2016 is a Joe O’Brien very big year for Ireland. There will be a very important General Election in 2016. For that reason and also as a mark of respect to all the sacrifices made by people in 1916 and in all the conflicts of the time that were in one way or another tied to cause of sovereignty, I hope people come out in force to cast their ballot. I have certainly been inspired by the fact that my Grandfather was prepared to take serious risks and make sacrifices to do what he felt his country needed.” He also urged first time voters to cast their first ever ballot. On this he said, “I am not just talking about people who are turning 18, but also those who have been disenfranchised by the political system and have decided not to vote. This is not an issue we adequately engage with in Ireland – the fact that a significant minority of people don’t see the point in using their vote. What a great year to cast your first ever vote, but only if you are registered.”

Free Financial Review Service for Malahide Credit Union Members

Drop into Malahide Credit Union or ring 085-8670066 to have a chat with the CUinsured advisor Declan Monaghan and to book a free, no-obligation appointment for a review of any existing policies you may have from Monday to Friday

An exciting new service has been launched recently in Malahaide Credit Union. For the first time, Malahide Credit Union is in a position to offer members access to full financial advisory service. This unique offering for Malahide Credit Union means they can access free, impartial advice on the full range of financial products.

to recommend whichever product best suits the client’s needs not just promoting a particular bank’s own products or indeed one particular life company’s products.”

Their focus isn’t just on offering new policies, CUinsured are aware that many members with existing policies may be paying over the odds for a package that doesn’t suit them.

Mike Mulrenan MD and partner, Eamon Lynch set up CUinsured specifically to cater for the needs of Credit Union members. “We understand the culture of the Credit Union as a mutual society,” says Mike. “Our emphasis is on putting the members’ best interests first and foremost, which is what the ethos of the Credit Union is all about and what is severely lacking in the approach of the banks and other commercial financial institutions.”

“It’s a service we want to make exclusively available to Credit Union members. We believe it

“Our belief is that there are a huge number of people who very rarely review the types of policies we’re talking about. If they haven’t reviewed it, there is a huge opportunity for them to save money on their current outgoings.”

“The market place has changed greatly in recent years. There is a lot of bad feeling towards banks since the financial crash in 2008 and since then the Credit Union has emerged by far and away the most trusted financial institution in the country.“ “Just recently the Credit Union was voted the most trusted brand in Ireland and we think that the timing is perfect to be able to offer a range of financial services on-site in Credit Unions that have been traditionally offered through the banks.”

offers a good incentive to enable the Credit Unions to attract new members on the back of being able to access our service.” Each member can book an appointment with advisor, Declan Monaghan to access a full range of financial services such as: life assurance, serious illness, income protection, investments, unit linked savings, pensions and estate planning. Declan has a wealth of experience in financial services, having

“It is our aim to always be looking after the Credit Union members’ best interests,” explains Declan “Having fully secured the approval of the Board of Directors at Malahide Credit Union, members can feel confident in the services offered by CUinsured,” says Mike Mulrenan. “To be able to secure this relationship with such a high profile Credit Union who are willing to support and sponsor our particular product offering should be a significant confidence booster for its members.”

“We offer an independent view of the marketplace and are able
