By Patrick Finnegan bours, enjoy the banter with your shopkeeper, while having lunch or a cup of coffee to unwind afterwards. There really is no better way to start your Christmas shopping than in your home town, where there are many fantastic local stores, restaurants and hotels which have been situated here for many years. This is also where you can negotiate a bargain, and should you need to exchange a purchase,

or if you run into any issues, you will be received by a friendly shopkeeper, who will be only too willing to make sure that your every need is swiftly met. Years ago, often, the trend was to travel to the city centre to find the ideal gift for your loved one. With the growth of our towns and the presence of many retail brand names, there is no longer the need to travel to the city. The thought of travelling in long traffic jams and paying exorbitant

car parking charges, or travelling on a packed bus, while taking your place in another queue in an overcrowded store, is enough to put you off Christmas shopping for good. The situation with the weakness of sterling poses a real threat to our local retailers this Christmas, with many shoppers expected to head north expecting to avail of a bonanza due to the currency differential. This all adds up to a short term gain at the expense of the liveli-

New Brand Identity For Swords Cultural Quarter The County Council marked the completion of the current phase of conservation works at Swords Castle, and another chapter in its history and the launch of a new brand Identity (SCQ) for Swords Cultural Quarter. Begun in 2016, the works, a mix of architectural and landscaping conservation, have provided renewed access to the castle enclosure and buildings, and, with it, the opportu-

nity to avail of new cultural uses for the space. The Castle is now open to the public, complete with a new Tourism Office, with the adjacent Chapel offering a glimpse into the medieval origins of the space. The Digging History Community Archaeology Project, the second season of which took place in 2016, further uncovered the depth of history in its built environment. Demolition of the terrace of

Local Enterprising Women’s Christmas Lunch Network The Local Enterprise Office has announced details of the annual Fingal Enterprising Women’s Network (FEWN) Christmas lunch, which takes place on Tuesday 6th December in Roganstown Hotel and Country Club. The Christmas networking event will be a great opportunity for female entrepreneurs to mix with other women in business. Registration is at 12.15pm and the events concludes at 2pm. The special guest speaker for the Christmas lunch is Niamh Barry, founder of The Irish Fairy Door Company. Founded at the height of the recent recession, the Irish Fairy Door Company has gone from strength to strength, with very strong demand for their product range. Rapid growth in any company brings challenges as well as joys and Niamh will

both inform and entertain as she talks about her business journey. Head of Local Enterprise, Oisin Geoghegan said “Our guest speaker, Niamh Barry set up her business in difficult times and despite the many challenges that this has presented, she has enjoyed considerable success. By hearing her story and learning how she has grown this business, our Network members will come away with some great ideas that they can apply to their own business,” he said. This is the fifth Enterprising Women Networking event of the year and follows on from the “National Women’s Enterprise Day” that was held recently with over 250 business women in attendance, run by the Local Enterprise Office in Fingal. Airport Welcomes New Winter Services Dublin Airport has almost 695,000 extra seats across its route network this winter season, which is a 6 per cent increase in capacity compared to last year. Four new services started to coincide with the winter season, with Flybe commencing services to Doncaster in Yorkshire, Ryanair added Hamburg and the capital of Bulgaria, Sofia to its route network and KLM is now flying to Amsterdam. Seven services which started during the summer season will operate this winter schedule for the first time. Capacity and frequency will also increase on a number of other routes. This will be the busiest ever winter season at the airport, according to Dublin Airport Managing Director, Vincent Harrison. “Dublin Airport’s extensive and growing route network offers a fantastic selection of sun, ski and city breaks for those planning a winter getaway. “The new services, coupled with the additional frequency and capacity on many existing routes provide even more choice and flexibility for both business and leisure customers.” Passenger numbers at Dublin Airport have increased by 12 per cent so far this year, with more than 24 million passengers using the airport between January and October.

Study Into Increased Parking At Local Train Stations Local Fianna Fail TD, Darragh O’Brien has welcomed the news from Irish Rail that a feasibility study, on increasing car park capacity at a number of its train stations, is currently taking place. He told the County Leader, “This is great news for the thousands of commuters across North County Dublin who rely on parking space availability at train stations to ensure they can get to work on time. For the past number of years, I’ve called for an expansion in capacity, and have been in regular contact with Irish Rail raising the concerns of local commuters.” “Too often over the past number of years, commuters wanting to park at the station were forced, due to a lack of O’Brien TD capacity, to look elsewhere for parking, often at an increased price, and ultimately leading them to miss their train to the city centre,” he said. “Portmarnock station received a significant amount of investment, nearly €500,000 to increase parking capacity to 278 spaces. While this is a welcome development, more capacity is needed in Portmarnock to keep up with the increased number of commuters, but other stations across the North County also need the same level of investment to ensure that commuters can continue to use the train services to get to work on time.” “The study is expected to be completed by the end of Quarter 1 in 2017, and I will be working hard to ensure that there is funding made available to Irish Rail to develop the additional capacity that is so obviously needed,” concluded O’Brien.

Loughshinny Christmas Party Promises Great Fun The fourth annual Loughshinny Christmas party will take place in The Yacht Bar on 17th December. The event, which is now at the heart of the community’s festive calendar, is not to be missed. Each year, different celebrities turn up in Loughshinny to help the community celebrate Christmas, and also raise funds for charity. Over the past few years the likes of Nathan Carter, Mary Black and the X Factor’s Louis Walsh have

turned up at the Loughshinny Christmas party, and this year, organisers say, is set to be another night to remember. This year the charity raffle will help St Brendan’s National School in Loughshinny. As always there will be thousands of euros worth of prizes. Live entertainment on the night will be provided by Eurovision winner, Niamh Kavanagh along with her band ‘The Illegals’. Niamh has joined the party in

previous years, with fellow Eurovision winner Paul Harrington, but this is her first time to headline the event with the 7 piece band. “Loughshinny is always great fun”, laughs Niamh, the locals are definitely up for a great night and it’s always memorable. When you sing to them, they sing right back to you and the atmosphere is electric. I love playing there and we are going to rock the place this year!” As always there will be a surprise celebrity guest

at the Loughshinny Christmas Party, but organisers are remaining tight lipped about the identity of the guest. Proprietor Declan Cloonan couldn’t shed any light on the subject. “Even I don’t know,” laughs Declan, they are keeping it to themselves. Every year someone famous shows up, which is great for the atmosphere on the night. There’s loads of selfies and they are always part of the occasion,” he said. Tickets, priced €20, are selling fast, so don’t be disappointed. You can purchase them at The Yacht or contact Maeve on 087 241 7213.

Leo Halpin from Oldtown has been a tireless fundraiser for Cappagh Hospital, through his annual walks for the hospital. Following a successful hip replacement surgery in Cappagh National Orthopaedic Hospital back in 2004, after years of pain and sleepless nights, Leo decided to show his appreciation to the hospital by organising a charity walk. He said, “At that time charity walks were only taking off and the very first walk hadn’t many; I suppose we had 50 to 70 people which was a good start and we raised a good few euros” says Leo. Eleven years later, the Leo Halpin and Cappagh ex patients walk in Oldtown has raised over €100,000 for Cappagh National Orthopaedic Hospital. Leo remembers how every year it was getting easier, more people wanted to get involved and each year something new was added to the event, including a vintage cars display, the farmers market, cake sales, raffles, BBQs and many more. To show their appreciation for Leo, a gathering was held in Oldtown House, to celebrate Leo’s achievement of raising €11,000 in this year walk for Cappagh Hospital and also reaching €100,000 in the last 11 years. Former Dublin player/manager, Dr Pat O’Neill from Cappagh Hospital was there to officially received the cheque from Leo. The charity walk for Cappagh Hospital has become an annual event in Oldtown and everyone is now asking Leo, ‘When is the walk coming?’ Oldtown is that type of community – everyone wants to help you and every year the numbers helping and supporting grows and grows. The people involved aren’t just from Oldtown; they come from Dunshaughlin, Ashbourne, Clonalvy and the surrounding areas. Leo is very apprecia-

tive of the generosity of the farmers who donate the vegetables, SuperValu Balbriggan for donating All Ireland Football tickets and sponsoring the BBQ for years, the local ladies for organising the cake sales and all the supporters of the walk. Funds raised this year will go towards funding the purchase of Navigation Assisted Systems and Software for scoliosis corrective surgery. This new software will allow surgeons at Cappagh to undertake complex spinal surgeries safely and with dramatically reduced risk, providing increasingly better outcomes for patients in reducing curvature of the spine and restoring patient height. The development of this service in Cappagh is a first for Ireland and will benefit many adolescents with this ailment. At a cost of €500,000, this development will also play a vital role in tackling existing waiting lists for spinal surgery.

The Department of Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs has published the fifth annual report on threats to birds of prey. The report is prepared by the Department’s National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) in collaboration with the Regional Veterinary Labs of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, and the State Laboratory. The report is the product of a joint Departmental initiative to investigate bird of prey deaths in Ireland. This will be of interest to many here in the North County, where Red Kites were successfully introduced here some years ago. However, setbacks were experienced along the way with losses of some of these precious birds reported due to poisoning. Last year saw the largest annual number of

incidents since recording began systematically in 2011. In total, 35 poison and persecution incidents were confirmed.

Poisoning falls into two general categories: accidental poisoning through the use of poison against rats and mice which then accumulates in birds that eat them, most notably red kites and barn owls; and deliberate laying of poison. The victims of

poisoning and persecution since 2007 include Red Kite, Common Buzzard, Peregrine Falcon, Golden Eagle, Whitetailed Sea Eagle, Sparrow hawk, Kestrel, Hen Harrier, Barn Owl and Short-eared Owl. More than a hundred other birds such as crows and pigeons were also found to have been poisoned. The NPWS Database of poison/persecution incidents enables an appraisal of black spots, associated land-use types, methods of persecution, motives behind the persecution and the times of year at which such incidents peak. The report is the result of cooperation between the National Parks and Wildlife Service, the Department of Agriculture, Food & the Marine’s Regional Veterinary Laboratories and the State Laboratory, and also involves An Garda Síochána.

Young People Urged To Register To Vote Local councillor, Malachy Quinn (SF) has urged young people to take a stand against the establishment and register to vote today. This call comes following the notice from Fingal County Council to “Value your Vote” and

register by the 25th November via www.checktheregister.ie. Quinn said, “Fingal with the youngest and fastest growing population in the State is adversely affected by youth unemployment. The very first people to bear the brunt of

Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael’s austerity agenda was our young people particularly, those aged under 26. “Voting is the one opportunity we have to make a change. I urge young people of the North County to make their voice heard against discrimination

and unfairness and to take on the establishment of this state.” “In the centenary year of the Easter Rising, I call on our younger population to honour the men and women of 1916 by registering to vote and choose your future,” he said.

Historical Book Launch In Balbriggan A new book called, ‘Balbriggan - A History in Maps 1655-1900’ by Peter (Frank) Whearity was launched on Wednesday, 9th November in the Town Hall, Balbriggan. The book is published by Balbriggan & District Historical Society. Peter (Frank) Whearity is a native of Balbriggan and has lived with his wife, Valerie at nearby Skerries since 1975. He holds a BA (Hons) in Local Studies, and an MA in Local History from Maynooth University. Brexit Forum Comes To North County Local Fine Gael TD, Alan Farrell is bringing the first of Fine Gael’s regional

Brexit forums to the Grand Hotel in Malahide on 28th November at 8pm.

Representatives from a number of industries will also attend to discuss Brexit with

members of the public. Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Charlie Flanagan and Ian Talbot from Chambers Ireland will be guest speakers at the forum. Farrell said, “I was pleased to be recently appointed as co-chair of Fine Gael’s Working Group on Brexit by An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny. As part of this, I will be hosting a series of regional seminars in Dublin and across the country, in order to discuss the implications of Brexit with stakeholders from key industries and members of the public. “I am delighted to bring my Party’s first regional forum on Brexit to the North County, and I would encourage constituents from across North County Dublin to attend on the night. Farrell continued, “Brexit undoubtedly presents one of the greatest economic challenges that Ireland has faced over

the last 50 years and it has the potential to impact on everyone in the North County and across our island both North and South. This is why it is of the utmost importance for us to have a conversation on what Brexit will mean to all of us. In doing so, the concerns and opinions of members of the public, both in the North County and across the country, will be invaluable to both Fine Gael and the Government, particularly as we expect the UK to start the formal exit negotiation period by the end of March 2017.” “I would urge everyone in the North County to consider attending the Brexit Forum I will be hosting in the Grand Hotel, Malahide on November 28th to voice their concerns and make their opinions known to me, the Minister for Foreign Affairs & Trade, Charlie Flanagan TD, and stakeholders from the industries most likely to be impacted by the UK’s exit from the EU,” he concluded.

Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links, which recently completed the first phase of a multi-million euro redevelopment of both the championship golf links and the hotel, has been named Golf Resort of the Year 2016 in the prestigious Irish Golf Tour Operators annual awards. The redevelopment programme has seen the property invest substantial funds both in the golf course and also in the hotel and its facilities. The investment in the golf course has included the creation of a wonderful new short game area, new wider natural grass paths between greens and tees and the refurbishment of many of the riveted bunkers which are a feature of the course. The investment in the hotel has

included the refurbishment of 90 bedrooms; new meeting and conference rooms; the creation of a new Spa and Gym; a new Seaview Restaurant; a complete redesign of the main restaurant and a new entrance and car park. In addition, the hotel’s food operation is under the direction of new head chef Tom Walsh, who is already getting plaudits for his innovative menus. Speaking of the award, Resort Director Barry O’Connor said he was delighted at the early recognition for the changes that have taken place. He said that, while there was still work to be done, that the work to date on both golf course and hotel had been really well received.

The show, hosted by Niamh Geaney, trawled the streets of Swords, asking the public a series of questions in where they could walk away with 200 euro. If they got the answer right, they scored one point. If they didn’t know they answer they had 60 seconds ‘Search time’ to find the answer using their phone. They then had to choose another member of the public who had to try and beat the set score. Sound easy? Well it was harder and funnier than it sounds. I’ve seen hundreds of people with foot and ankle pain, heel pain and arch problems leave the office pain free.

Do You Have Any of the Following Conditions? • Heel Pain / Plantar Fasciitis • Fallen Arches • Arthritis • Bunions or hammer toes • Tendonitis • Muscle weakness • Pain across your instep • Stiff or tight joints • Trouble Walking If you are suffering from any of these or other problems this foot and ankle treatment protocol may completely eliminate all the pain. You Have An Option Other Than Orthotic Insole Supports Or Changing Shoes … One That Really Works! You may have tried different types of shoes or use orthotic insoles or arch supports. I see people just like you every day who think they have to just live with their foot and leg problems and this is just not true. You don’t just have to put up with pain. Even if you already use orthotic insoles my treatment can help improve overall foot function and reduce the need for supports. Could This Be Your Solution To Your Foot and Ankle Pain? For 10 days only, I’m running a very special offer where you can find out if this could be your solution to foot or ankle pain.

Have A Podiatrist Evaluate Your Foot and Ankle Pain For Only €40 (normally €75) What does this offer include? Everything I normally do in my “Foot and Ankle Pain New Patient Evaluation”. Just call before December 9th and here’s what you’ll get… • An in-depth consultation about your foot and ankle where I will listen…really listen. • A complete nerve, muscle and foot and ankle exam to find the “cause” of your problem. • A thorough analysis of your exam findings so we can fix the problem. I’ll answer all your most probing question about our pain free foot and ankle evaluation and what it can do for you. The appointment will not take long at all and you won’t be sitting in a waiting room all day either. To take me up on this special offer, you must call 01 5394322 before 9th December. Feel the Improvement – and Say“Yes” to Life Again With my evaluation we’ll be able to find the cause of your foot or ankle pains and then correct it. Think of how you’ll feel in just a few short weeks. Remember what it was like before you had foot or ankle problems. When you were pain free and could enjoy everything life had to offer. It can be that way again. Don’t neglect your problem any longer – don’t wait until it’s too late. As you begin to see motion returning to your joints, you’re preventing and reducing chances of disability and a crippling future. Soon you’ll be able to live life like a normal person again, without foot or ankle pains – able to play with your kids, enjoy time with friends, and not have to worry that your pain will hit you at just the wrong time.

Phone 01 5394322 Are you suffering from foot and / or ankle pain? If so relief may be easier than you think. Call anytime between the hours of 9:00 am and 6:00 pm Monday through Friday. Tell the receptionist you’d like to come in for the Special Foot and Ankle Evaluation before 9th December. Look, you have very little to risk and a lot to gain. Call today and we can get started with your consultation, exam and analysis as soon as there’s an opening in the schedule. Story Of The Battle Of Jadotville Rowlestown Oldtown Historical Association has invited retired Army Commandant, Leo Quinlan to tell the story of the Battle of Jadotville at Kettles Country House Hotel, Rolestown on 30th November at 8pm. Leo has a unique perspective as he is the son of the gallant officer, Comdt. Patrick Quinlan who, through his strategic ability and

courage, ensured that his troops all came home from six days of fierce and desperate fighting. Jadotville is a small mining town about 100 km from Elizabethville City in what was then the Belgian Congo. The Irish troops were there as part of a UN force to try to protect the civilian population and hold peace between the warring civil war factions. This is the

story of real guts and courage as Quinlan’s company of 155 men held out against an opposing force of between 3,000 and 4,000 Katangan well armed soldiers, which included mercenaries drawn from a number of countries. The Irish troops were, in effect, left to look after themselves as the UN procrastinated and failed

Swords playwright, David Gilna, whose play, ‘The Unsung Hero’ tells the fascinating story of one of the heroes of Easter Week 1916, was performed on Thursday, 10th November at the Lord Mayor’s in Swords. This is Gilna’s third play and he is fast establishing a name for himself in theatre circles, and he was delighted to launch his nationwide tour with the play in his home town of Swords. The play is a love story set amid the Easter Rising of 1916. Gilna spoke to the County Leader about the play. ‘The Unsung Hero’ is a play devoted to Michael Joseph O’Rahallaigh who founded the Irish Volunteers. My godmother was a woman called

Isuelt O’Rahallaigh and her father was a man called Aogain O’Rahallaigh , son of Michael, who passed on all the notes about his father to me. From this, the play came about. I wanted to tell the story about what he did for the country as an unsung hero,” he said. “The play will go on a nationwide tour for the whole of next year and we’re delighted to stage this special performance here in the Lord Mayor’s before it heads off on tour, “ he said. This is a one man play, with the excellent Conor Delaney giving a brilliant performance as the O’Rahallaigh and his performance kept the audience captivated throughout.

Mindfulness and wellbeing programmes continue to rise in popularity, as more and more people are discussing the benefits that these practices can have on our lives. Researchers have discovered that meditation can literally change the structure of our brains and other research has shown the efficacy of mindfulness in reducing symptoms of a number of disorders, including stress and anxiety. Director of the Emmaus Centre Julie Cosden said. “As our lives get busier and busier, more people are realising that we need to find time to assess our own wellbeing. We feel it is our duty to offer the local community a place where people can discover how these practices of mindfulness and meditation can bring a sense of peace to their lives.” To try it out for yourself, Emotional Health Consultant Aisling Killoran, explores on her programmes how to control anxiety by using the Heart-Focused Breathing™ Technique by focusing your attention into the area of your heart breathing a little slower and deeper than usual: Think of something that is causing you stress and assign it a number with 10 being intense and 0 being calm. For one minute, put your hand on your heart and imagine that you are breathing in and of your heart. Then breathe in for six seconds, counting slowly, then breathe out slowly for six seconds. After two minutes think about someone you love. Send this positive feeling in through your heart and out into the negative feeling.

Swords Man Undertakes Mammoth Charity Fundraiser Well known Swords businessman, Michael McEnery of Virgoe McEnery Landscapers has decided to undertake a mammoth task for two charities this Christmas. Bus Service For Knocksedan Local Fine Gael TD, Alan Farrell, is pleased that Dublin Bus plans to extend the 41x bus service to cater for residents in Knocksedan. He said, “I am delighted that the provision of a bus service for residents in Knocksedan is finally in sight. This is a victory for local residents who have been left isolated on the cusp of the largest community in the North County for far too long.” “Dublin Bus has informed me that, given that a turning bay is in place, they are now engaging with Fingal County Council to secure a statutory order for a bus stop at the turning bay. It is the intention of Dublin Bus to then apply for two buses on the 41x route towards the city centre in the morning peak hour and from the city centre in the evening peak hour. These buses would stop at Knocksedan on their way to, and from, Swords Manor. Furthermore, Dublin Bus is also seeking approval for an additional bus stop at Swords

No Taxation Without Representation Some Members of the European Parliament are seeking to prevent UK MEPs from fulfilling their elected roles, by excluding them from parliamentary committee membership. This appears to be in retaliation to the UK intention to leave the community. It seems that the slogan of the American War of Independence “No Taxation without Representation” has yet to reach Brussels. But there is concern that the British, as they prepare to leave, may in turn not act in the general best interest of the EU. That action to enhance their negotiation position or simply be bloody mindlessness. Either is unacceptable and in the long run weakens the UK position, while enhancing those who are uncompromising towards them within the remaining member states. The German Defence Minister has expressed concerns over the UK’s current position on EU defence cooperation. He makes the point that fairness is required and that those leaving should not stand in the way of those wishing to work together towards common goals. Polish political sources are suggesting that the UK needs to continue funding the EU Budget for

some years after its formal exit. Schäuble, the By Cathal Boland German Finance Minister has told the Financial Times that the UK may be required to continue to contribute to the EU Budget until 2030. Should this be the case it hardly is the type of Hard Exit that British people expect Ms. May to deliver. Fears exist within the European community that the whole EU project may fall asunder. The inspiration for the creation of the original Economic Community, is now, for many, simply chapters in a history book. The need that that history teaches is still as relevant today as it was in the immediate post war period. Co-operation between nations working together in peace to ensure the improvement in living standards, with respect shown to all citizens, while creating societies that could live in peace, must remain the common goal of all Europeans. The political process and those elected to serve must rise above their own and their states’ self-interest. Strong inspiring political leadership capable of articulating the vision and goals of the founders of the EEC is badly needed.

Here are some tips to survive the festive season so Santa will be the only one in the red this year. YOU’RE FEEDING YOUR SET A BUDGET & BE FAMILY NOT AN ARMY! REALISTIC Create a budget and stick to it so you don’t overstretch yourself and only give what you can afford – not what you think you should spend.

KRIS KINDLE OR SECRET SANTA This is a fun and cheaper option especially when you have a lot of gifts to buy for family and friends. Another option is to set a limit on the cost of gifts, which may also be a welcome relief for all concerned.

THE EARLY WORM CATCHES THE… BARGAIN Start shopping earlier in the year. Not only can you pick up some preChristmas bargains but you can also avoid some of the stress of a last minute dash.

GET TO KNOW YOUR CHRISTMAS TREES (HELLO CHRISTMAS TREE, NICE TO MEET YOU) Balsam and Douglas firs are the most affordable, while Nordman and Turkish firs break the bank. Pro tip: Get the Douglas. It smells like Christmas. Put off buying a tree as long as possible. Prices tumble the closer it gets to Christmas.

Don’t bulk-buy food. Plan ahead and check the cupboards to see what you have first. It’s not the 1980s anymore and shops only close for 1 – 2 days over Christmas (With some even open on Christmas Day) so there is really no need to stock up for fear of running out

READ THE SMALL PRINT If you borrow or enter into a buynow-pay-later deal, be careful. Some lenders will penalise you for paying it back early or, if you do not pay it within the interest free period, you could be subject to hefty interest payments

JANUARY SALES. Put off shopping for clothes until the sales start on St. Stephen’s Day. You can also pick up some great bargains for next Christmas. Christmas cards and decorations are greatly reduced in the sales and buying them in January means you’ve already taken some of the pressure off yourself for the following Christmas.

IF YOU BORROW BE SENSIBLE Borrow where the interest is right not on your doorstep.

www.mfcu.ie exodus of residents across the border to do their Christmas shopping. For many shopkeepers, Christmas is the time of year when they make most of their sales and the period that they depend on to ensure their viability into the new year. A huge crowd gathered at the Lord Mayor’s pub in Swords recently to welcome the Sam Maguire Cup to the popular hostelry. Proprietor, Joe Savage joined crowds of adults and children all dressed up in their Dublin jerseys as they welcomed local heroes, Paul Flynn and Darren Daly and All-Star, Philly McMahon. The moment the trio of Dublin stars entered the premises with special guest Sam, the place erupted to the sound of Molly Malone. A traditional music band entertained the good humoured gathering, many of whom went up in an orderly queue to have their photos taken with the Cup. The players enjoyed the banter as they mixed easily with their adoring fans. When Paul Flynn declared that they had every intention of retaining Sam for yet another year, the crowd loudly cheered their approval. All in all, a great night was had by all.

In loving memory of Fintan Michael Lowry Chapel Green, Lusk, Co. Dublin Who died on 15th November 1999 A bouquet of beautiful memories, Sprayed with a million tears, Wishing God could have spared you, If just for a few more years. It does not take a special day, For us to think of you. Each Mass we hear, each prayer we say, Is offered up for you. We cannot bring the old days back, When we were all together, The family chain is broken now, But memories live forever. It was a sudden parting, Too bitter to forget, Only those who loved you, Are the ones who will never forget. May he rest in peace, dear Jesus, In Thy heavenly home above, With the Sacred Heart of Jesus, In His own eternal love. Along the road to yesterday, That leads us straight to you, Are memories of happy days, Together we once knew. The blow was hard, the shock severe, To part with one we loved so dear, Our loss is great, we’ll not complain, But trust in God to meet again. A silent grief that’s in our hearts, No human eye can trace, For many a broken heart is hid, Beneath a smiling face.
