Sean Mannix is a distinguished law enforcement professional with 36 years of experience in public safety. He has held several prominent leadership roles throughout his career, including Assistant Chief of Police in Austin and Chief of Police in Cedar Park, Texas. His work has focused on enhancing policing strategies, implementing advanced training programs, and fostering strong community relationships. After retiring in 2020, Sean continued his service to the public as the Statewide Traffic Incident Management Coordinator for the Texas Department of Transportation. Born in California as one of five children, Sean was inspired to pursue a career in law enforcement by his father, who also worked in the field. Sean was determined to follow in his father's footsteps from a young age. At 18, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, an experience that helped shape his leadership abilities and work ethic. Retired Chief Sean Mannix earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Excelsior College, graduating with honors. He then pursued a Master of Arts in Homeland Security from American Military University. Sean also attended prestigious institutions such as the FBI National Academy, the Leadership Command College, and the Senior Management Institute for Police, further honing his skills. After completing his Marine Corps service, Sean began his law enforcement career at the Alameda Police Department in California at the age of 20, becoming the youngest officer in the department. He later moved to Austin, Texas, in 1993, spending the next 20 years with the Austin Police Department. Sean climbed the ranks from patrol officer to Assistant Chief, overseeing major divisions and initiatives. His efforts included reducing crime through the COMPSTAT model, enhancing community outreach, and building partnerships with federal agencies like the FBI and DEA.
