I have a tendency to ‘bite more than I can chew’. And I often struggle to get the theme I want to work on. For this independent practice, I will narrow down and focus only on what I would love to do, and what I want to achieve. I am particularly interested in pattern design, and get inspired every time. It is something I have been working with since a long time ago. What particularly interests me is to be able to express my feelings in the form of art and pattern. Both kaleidoscope and geometry patterns have strong connections with pattern design. Through the lectures, I learned that tessellation pattern design is also within the scope of pattern design. And according to my research, it is most certainly a challenge to me. I will look forward to it, and in no doubt, I will have a lot of valuable experience
In order to achieve pattern design, the methods I am going to use involve Digital media (Illustrator and Photoshop), which I am used to. It will also involve image making and analogue (screen printing, drawing etc). In order to be inspired, I will research into some of the designers’ works, and also the books such as ‘Exciting world of Pattern Design’. I am confident of being able to learn a great deal, and will enhance my own design project. During this exercise, I am hoping to dramatically improve both my technical skills and conceptual knowledge. Having learned how to post my work on blog, I will keep it updated.
Independent Pratice 2A: Interrogation
Women Power They are our mothers, wives and daughters, they give us food and love, they feed the whole of society. “Do not underestimate the power of women and always give them the respect.

Dancing Girls
Smiley Fish
I personally feel that the fish is the happiest life-form in the world, because they can swim around without the fetters of discipline and responsibility.
Disappointed
Looking up at trees or even up into the sky makes you feel like you know so much more than what you do. This is something I wanted to explore with this particular pattern. The feeling of disappointment you get realising that when you look down it is the opposite feeling.
Diversification The concept comes from “one line to create different shape. Try to experiment on it, you can find a simple line can form million of shapes.

Dream
There are plenty of ways to describe what do you when thinking, however, I prefer to use images to express these feelings or to bring out the message, not only because it satisfies my inspiration, but also conceals my weakness of communicating with others. These are some of the works I created to encourage people when you encounter some problems and you feel frustrated with it.

She & He I often imagine that some of the microorganisms I have never seen before, their way of life, appearance and love...
Singing Childhood
There is music whispering to me from faraway, a group of primary scholars singing a Christmas song immediately brought back memories of my childhood.
Evaluation During the first semester of this year I have been able to explore my creative side. Previously I have learnt a variety of technical skills but can now discover more ways of not only being more imaginative but feeding my inspiration. By exploring patterns I have been able to produce work that speaks to my inspiration and may also inspire other people. Due to the fact I started late in second year and missed out on the first year completely I felt quite frustrated at the start of the semester but as time has gone by I have received encouragement from other people which has helped me to continue my learning. However both these feelings of frustration and encouragement have helped me feel inspired to create more work. For this unit I have been exploring patterns, my previous knowledge of patterns has been able to grow and I have learn many new techniques such as tessellations and geometric patterns. After this unit hand I would like to continue to explore the idea of pattern making. Perhaps looking into doing more hand drawn work and to learn more techniques and ideas.
