PaperCo: Direct Mail
As a solution to the problem of direct mail it was decided to create a keepsake that is not only economically viable, but is appealing and informative. It was important to address the idea of the closed loop recycling. The focus of the direct mail is to make the audience think about recycling with PaperCo.
A tree shaped book would be the best way to embark upon the mission of presenting the idea of the closed loop of recycling to the audience, in this case designers. The idea is that the tree design can open out into a full 360 degree three dimensional object than can easily sit on a desk and be referred to when it is required. The tree shape is able to tessellate thus saving yet again on paper as well as ink coverage being very minimal.
PaperCo: Direct Mail
The colours of the paper used were integral to the theme of recycling and nature; it was felt that greens and yellows would represent the idea well. Plain cardboard was used for the front and back cover. Also the packaging is brown to fit the theme.
The Packaging is versatile so can be used to post or to be given out at events. The box also can be used as a stand for the tree. It was important to keep the design simple but effective.

Martin O Neill’s Workshop
Martin O Neill’s Workshop We required to created very large 3D sentence with material which is unused item you can found near with University. Making a artwork within limited resource really challange your mind and skill in the same time. I found this project did inspired me a lot, it is also can stimulate your imagination and creativity. After this project, I do believe “Design could be anything

This is the letter “E” i made and I hope that’s not only a decoration but also an useful item. This can be an idea design for women’s jewellery collection.
Testing Testing Testing 123: Melancholy
We have to produce a film 30 seconds long that communicates the word that have been given which is “melancholy”. That is not allowed to speak/write or show the word. The aim for this project is to experimenting and developing an idea from the freedback that you received from the audience. The movie we created basicly used different words which is similar with “melancholy” to presented the same meaning indirectly and adding some face emotion to enhanced the story behind. We show each others the movie and re-work on idea based on the feedback to achieve the purpose of “testing testing 123”. For my personal view, i would define this project as better, could be better!

Five different Colour badges end up with an arches darts shape. The idea is simple, but what i want to tell is badge could be a dot or a shape in some point, it’s depends on how creative you are.

Typography: Rainbow
The dimensionality of these curving line gives them movement in depth to show the feminity. It may sound weird but the inspiration of this typeface design actually come from toilet paper. I can imagine it’s softness character can easily show the beauty of the type.

Postal Note NameCut Design
After Martin O Neill’s workshop, i decided to work more at home as my independent practice. I found that i got extra postal note at home which could be another typographic design. I thinking about everyone got the similar postal note at home but that will be cool if they can have the postal noted with their own name. It might be boring if i just simply design it as a “NameCut so i playing around the shadow and reflection as well which is more captivating.

Evaluation In the beginning of second year second term, Martin O Neill’s workshop inspired me a lot for the rest of my term. I realized how we could design with limited resources, especially with something I might not have used for a while. If Martin O Neill’s workshop gave me inspiration, the PaperCo definitely the most exciting project I’ve had so far. An opportunity to design the direct mail for a well known company encouraged me to work harder and I really enjoyed what I was doing for the first time. There were quite a few projects this term that involved working with group which is good because we can learn from each other, but also bad because it’s hard to put everyone’s idea in one piece of work. Graphic artists convey a message or create an effect by visual means, using illustration and typography, which is what I decided to work on this term for my independent practice and also the thing I want to do in my future career. I started to explore what I can do with the material I had and tried to put it into my design. I emphasized hand drawn and handmade rather than just digital illustration in last term.
Typography is one of the most influential elements of a design; it can give character and emotion to a piece of work. I tried to use a different way to add some emotion into a typeface, and also create new characteristics to give it “life”. It’s a challenge for me, because this is first time I have played around with typography and I’m definitely new to this subject. There is lot more for me to explore, which I would like to look into during the Summer time. I attended a workshop on letterpress and I would like to learn more in my final year including Silk-screen printing, embossing and de-bossing, foil blocking, Varnishing etc. I’m sure that it will be fun to play around the typography using a variety of methods. Illustration is like my second language to tell others what I am thinking or enhance the meaning behind things. I like to use simple shapes or lines and add some color on particular part to make my artwork look more interesting. This term my illustration will tell the different stories or happenings in the world; Rather than just designing something with a dazzling look, but really empty inside. There might be couple different styles for my artwork this term, but as students we are always exploring and learning from different designers to find out our own styles of working. I do believe that I found it and I’m excited to do more next term.
