PROJECT TYPE: MUNICIPAL STUDIO: 412 BUILDING DESIGN STUDIO DATE: WINTER 2016 ADVISOR: STEVEN CHRISTENSEN LOCATION: DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES
The project try to create a open space for people who work and live in downtown Los Angeles. Comparing with traditional library, this library compress the reading and collective area in first and third floor where the space are iclosed space, and leave the middle floor as a open space for the public. The steel structure support the canopy upper floor and can create a cooler and more pleasant micro-climate than its surrounding area.
Physical Model
DESIGN CONCEPT The idea of this project is came from the study of OMA Seattle Public Library and France Montauban Media Library. Both of them are using stacking and shifting strategy to arrange and accumulate the programs. The volumns of those two libraries became variety in each elevations with the overlaping of programs. Moreover, by using of shifting and stacking strategy, the abudant interior spaces Seattle Public Library has be created. In order to accomplish the shifting and stacking strategy the cantilevers were designed in the structure.

BEINECKE RARE BOOKS & MANUSCRIPT LIBRARY In studying the Beinecke Rare Books Library, our group initially drawn to the feat of its seamless building envelope, and the glowing effect it produces inside, while keeping light from reaching and damaging the collection of the rare books housed beyond. However, what enables the strategic layering of the boxed library is in large part the mechanical system and boook storage mechanisms hidden underground. As we further investigate the performative qualities of Beinecke, the organization of the building into four eco-systems internally, emerges to be a critical component of our reading of the project. We define ecosystem in the Beinecke as a series of performative, interconnected systems that enable a particular architectural experience.

Starting with the hidden portions of the project, the first eco-system is the Mechanical Zone. The second eco-system is the Research and Education Areas that house multiple classrooms, reading rooms and offices. The third eco-system is the Book Collection itself, including the glass stack twoer. The fourth eco-system is the Exhibition Hall where a limited number of the precious collection items, Such as the Gutenberg Bible are displayed in boxed vitrines.

Glass Stack Tower At the Glass Stacks Tower (GST) the clean agent system is halon based. The halon is stored in individual tanks located on each level within the central utility core.

From interior elevation to section , the verendel truss geometry is extrapolated into a three-dimensional space frame that extends to meet the grid of steel structure at the book stacks, This structural scaffold, the platforms and assess stairs it supports aim to connect the two interior elevations defining a new sectional space between, one where an immersive digital exhibition can take place.

Design Proposal Each marble panel serves as a pixel, activated independently or as a group to display a range of content planned for by the digital exhibitions department. The proposal, presents the library with a new, expanded occupiable zone, where people can interface directly with the digital collection as they move up and down throughout the space.

FLOATING CUBES 2028 LOS ANGELES OLYMPICS ATHELETE COMMUNITY
PROJECT TYPE: RESIDENTIAL STUDIO: AUD 413 BUILDING DESIGN STUDIO DATE: FALL 2017 ADVISOR: MOHAMED SHARIF LOCATION: LOS ANGELES This proposal maintains the existing light industrial building fabric on the east end of the site as bookends against which to nest a new elevated, terraced mat building with multiple open air, atria that relate the sky to the ground. These atria give both measure and scale to the open space between the existing buildings in a manner that relates to the existing neighborhood morphology and help to break down the stepped, cellular mass of the new building above into distinguishable 'neighborhood' zones.
DESIGN CONCEPT The continuum and cooperation between an elevated mat building above a public space and existing fabrics that define the edges of a district echoes a similar strategy to that of Koolhaas/OMA's Timmerhuis project in Rotterdam, but further intensifies the liveliness of the public space, and breaks down the horizontal circulation network above by using multiple vertical circulation cores. Acting as a meta-armature for ground articulation, movement and primary structural elements these atrial cores operate at many levels to establish a variety of scales of association: from lobbies in a shaded public landscape of squares at ground level to shared light-wells overlooked

Fire station is one type of public constructions which is less achieved in its theory and problematic. Their common orgnazation is only to satisfy its necessary function. In this project, the main program of fire station is devided into 2 parts, which can be read as one 50% and another 50%. The first 50% is APPARATUS BAY. The rest 50% part is firefighters daily programs like living, administration, training facilities and so on.
PROGRAM ARRENGEMENT The first 50% of that approach is the apparatus bay which is a square volume on the west of the site. It contains the required functions of a fire station. The other 50% is housing, Administration and training programs. These programs are arranged into a linear slab building which is placed on the northern side of the site. The firefighters training open space is surrounded by the apparatus bay and the slab complex on the east-south side. The circulation elements are detached from the slab building. The center cores, stairs, and poles which are normally hidden inside a building become elements that are expressed as part of the architecture further amplifying the figural nature of the slab. As such, the elevation of the new fire station can be seen as a number of dematerializations - from the solidity of the architecture of the fire station to the much more porous and exposed components of the fire fighter training facility.

SKYSCRAPER TRAINING SCHEME The training component of the scheme is focused on skyscraper firefighting and disaster rescue. The training tower is designed to imitate the real dimension of a skyscraper. In the design of this training tower, traditional programs of a skyscraper such as elevator, center core, office room, helicopter landing area are extracted and rearranged into one slab training tower. The interior space is exposed by an erosive elevation such that the training of firefighters can be viewed by bystanders, amplifying the performance aspect of training. The elevation becomes the background and backdrop during firefighter training exercises. The project tries to repropose the efficiency and modernity of the fire station and make the efficiency elements a part of modernity.

PROJECT TYPE: COMMERCIAL STUDIO: 401 ADVANCED TOPIC STUDIO DATE: SPRING 2018 ADVISOR: GEORGINA HULJICH LOCATION: CARCASSONNE FRANCE The studio questions how to create a proto urban condition on the picturesque French contryside and produce a new sense of hierarchy at the site. Le Cite is located on the east side of Carcassonne, it was a military fortress on the Middle Ages to defence the accack from southern conturies. Le Cite is consisted by hundreds of individual brick towers. Under siege from the city wall and towers, Le Cite look like a integral whole.

The strategies to reinterpret these conditions: carving the building in relation to each other, sculpting or accumulating the ground betweeen building, subdividing the landscape in relation to the masses to create building territories., and filling those territories with vineyards to further emphasize the ground and building intermixing, which blurs the territorial edges.

Autonomous vehicles will have a major impact on parking facility designs in the future. It would also change the way of our daily transportation. Under this background MODPOD would change the way of co-working and transportaion. MODPOD is a mobile framework of flexible space that can be deployed according to changing urban contexts, utlizing micro-vacancies, to support a “diffuse lifestyle.� Distributed to hotspots, or dispersed to requested locations by a fleet of chargers. Modpods designed to accommodate a target audience seeking a micro lease of 30 minutes to 6-24 hours. Presented as a new model work, commerce, public sociability. Modpod cultivate as new clientele seeking on demand and on the go services. MODPOD headquarter is designed to display and popularize the autonomous vehicles. The headquarter shows how autonomous pod moving, operation, aggregation, and assembling.When moving in autonomous vehicles, people will free their hands from driver role and can focus on their own work and enjoy their life. Compared to regular car-parks that have only two rows of vehicles in each island, future car-parks (for autonomous vehicles) can have multiple rows of vehicles stacked behind each other.

Consider the black vehicle that wants to leave the car-park but is blocked by two red vehicle ahead of it. The relocation stratege proceed as follows. First move the two red vehicles into the inter-island gap to clear space in front of the green vehicle. When cleared, the green vehicle exits the car-park using the clearance roadway.

The heatquarter is designed to display and marketing the autonomous sharing community. It shows how ModPod moving, operation, aggregation, and assembling. The program of the headquarter is ModPod life style display area plus ModPod assembly line, they are on the ground floor. Egnineerdepartment and marketing department are arranged on the second floor. PROGRAM DIAGRAM The main vehicle circulation of ModPod Headquarter is from the back of the building, where Pod can drive through the ramp to each level, and the main enterance of perdestain is on the front of the building, where visitors can walk through and visit the heatquarter by using elevators and stairs. The assembly line is a place to display how ModPods assembled by robot arms.

TWO TYPES OF FACADE Hollowed facade keeps out the littery surrounding of the building and serves as a kind of identity of B&B. The facade of the building in the garden is kept clean and integrated. The relatively small windows help tenants keep their privacy.

THE USEAGE of TAIHU STONE Taihu Stone is often used in the traditional Chinese gardens. Except the visual fucntions, they are also used as stairs, screens and traffic guide.
TRADITIONAL LIFE HABITS RENOVATION Around in the site there are dwellings built in ancient times. People live here in their daily life. They have a living habits, inlcluding strolling, chatting, sightseeing, drinking tea, playing with water, etc. They have formed a unique living pattern which is integrated with the hills and the Lake.

We chose village and farmlands as designing reference, both of which are the living spaces of local residents from generation to generation. The size of residential constructions and croplands indicates the living standard of people.

Keep the original village roads and cropland walk paths, broaden the key cropland walk path for the motor vehicles and add the enough parking spaces for the artists, residents and visitors.

Based on the natural texture of farmland, the buildings of artists will be built in a relatively small network system. This block system is a harmonious combination of buildings and croplands, which is more convenient for artists at the meantime.

TYPES OF THE HOUSE I have tried to be systematic and modular in the designing of type of the house without ignoring the flexible relationship of the building and the open space. That is why I have chosen to modulate rooms and design several module-inhabitation-packages relating to the texture of farmland instead of designing some “standard dwellings�, whose repetition would produce an inflexible type of implementation. They are designed based on a modular 3m grid, from which I have designed standard modules with variations for individual artists.

PLANING LAYOUT
The sloping roofs are ideal areas for the peoples to relax. They can BBQ with their families on the grass roofs or lean on the roofs and watch the basketball game with their friends.
The interfingered underground spaces can be used for exhibitions and galleries. Artists working in the LOFT can display their work here conveniently. At the same time, these areas also enrich the function of the park.
The viewing bridge runs through the Folding Park from the gate to the river bank. People can see the reserved old buildings, enjoy the landscape of central park and the beauty of the Canal.
The ferry boat pier is a additional access for th visitors.It enriches the transport function of the par and bring more people to the park.
