Safe Places to Learn offers teachers, counselors, and other caring adults 21 lessons that challenge students in grades 6-12 to change the attitudes and behaviors that perpetuate meanness in school. Students will learn to promote kindness, respect, and caring, while discouraging gossip, teasing, bullying, exclusion, and violence. They’ll know how to effectively stop meanness when they see it—and to do it in a respectful, caring way toward both the victim and the bully. In the end, when students adopt the lessons’ positive values, they often experience a personal transformation which helps them continue improving school climate long after the lessons are over. Additionally, when you implement Safe Places to Learn’s lessons, you’ll embed the Developmental Assets® into your school to make it a place where students feel the support they need to succeed and thrive.
