COST OF CANCER We finally have some news. We are now registered on the Thrift+ platform. Thrift is where you register then you request a bag from them and send them good quality clothes. They will examine the clothes and then they will take photos of them, and you decide whether you want to donate 33% or 66% of the sale to charity. I think it is pretty genius really. For anyone interested in doing the walk in August. You are more than welcome to take part in the walk. We are not doing it as an official event this year so please feel free to do it under your own steam. You can even do the 18 miles over the month of August again. If you are going to do it, let us know so we can do some shout outs on social media. If you or you know someone who may be struggling with the financial impact that having cancer has on families, then please do get in touch, or pass our details on. They can get in touch via our email address info@costofcancer.org.uk or they can use the contact us page on our website. We can help with things like gas, electric, council tax etc. All the bills that do still need to be paid. Anyone who gets in touch will be treated with the upmost privacy. We will not sell your details onto anyone else because we do not believe it is right to do so. Your details are just that, your details. Please do keep an eye out on our social media platforms, Facebook, and Instagram. Which reminds me to mention if you could get your family and friends to like us on these platforms it helps to spread the word of what we do. Nicky, Emma & Cath Trustees

SIMPLE TIPS TO STOP LATE-NIGHT CRAVINGS A few basic strategies may help you avoid eating late at night. Enjoy regular meals Eating regular meals throughout the day — especially ones that are very filling, such as those high in fiber and protein — may reduce your desire to eat late at night. Avoid keeping snacks at home “Out of sight, out of mind” pertains to late-night snacking. The more visible a food is, the likelier you are to eat it. If you’re tempted to snack at night, place snacks where you can’t see them — or avoid keeping them at home. Brush your teeth When you brush your teeth, it’s like telling your body that you’re done eating for the day. Plus, some foods don’t taste good after brushing. Have you tried eating an orange straight afterward? I don’t recommend it. that don’t involve eating. One simple idea is to brew a pot of calming chamomile tea. Go to sleep early Staying up late may give you more opportunities to raid the fridge at night. Also, getting insufficient sleep may raise hunger hormone levels, leading you to eat more. Aim for 7–8 hours of sleep each night. SONG FOR THE SUMMER – RULES OF THE ROAD Follow the three R’s: Respect for self, Respect for others and Responsibility for all your actions. - Live a good, honorable life, and then when you look back you will be able to enjoy it a second time. - Open your arms to change but don’t let go of your values. - Don’t let a little dispute injure a great friendship. - Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer. - Take into account that great love and great achievement involve great risk. - When you lose, don’t lose the lesson. - Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck. - When you realize you’ve made a mistake take immediate steps to correct it. - In disagreement with loved ones: deal only with the current situation, don’t bring up the past. - Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other. - A loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life. - Share your knowledge; it’s a way to achieve immortality. - Learn the rules so you know how to break them gently and properly.
