COST OF CANCER

Hope you all had a safe but enjoyable Bonfire Night. Now we can welcome Christmas. I expect that we would have had our Light For a Life Event by the time the December issue comes out. Thank you to those who came and supported us. The next event in our calendar is the Step Up for January. This is an excellent way for you guys to get fit and get some exercise in after Christmas. We ask that you complete 12,000 steps per day which can be done by running or walking whichever you prefer. I’m going to be running some of mine as I need to get in shape as I’m doing the Euro 3 City Cycle in September. You can sign up for both of these events on our website. www.costofcancer.org.uk. The number of people we are helping has increased, so the more we can raise the better. We don’t want to turn anyone away because we don’t have the funds so please do help us to raise money to help us help others. Finally, please do follow us on all social media platforms and remember we help those who are finding life a struggle financially whilst

BENEFITS OF REGULAR EXERCISE

Exercising regularly can improve your mood and reduce feelings of anxiety and depression and is crucial to supporting a healthy metabolism and burning more calories per day. It also helps you maintain your muscle mass and weight loss, helps you build muscles and strong bones and it may also help prevent osteoporosis. Engaging in regular physical activity can increase your energy levels; this is true even in people with persistent fatigue and those with serious health conditions. Daily physical activity is essential to maintaining a healthy weight and reducing the risk of chronic disease. Moderate exercise can provide antioxidant protection and promote blood flow, which can protect your skin and delay signs of aging. Regular exercise improves blood flow to the brain and helps brain health and memory and among older adults, it can help protect mental function. Regular physical activity, regardless of whether it is aerobic or a combination of aerobic and resistance training, can help you sleep better and feel more energized during the day. Exercise has favorable effects on the pain associated with various conditions and it can also increase pain tolerance.

LET IT GO

The human mind has up to 70,000 thoughts a day and as you read this a few more thoughts of disbelief go through your mind. A very large number and many of them are the same thoughts over and over again. Strangely enough many of the thoughts we choose are negative and can make us anxious or fearful and yet we keep on turning them over again and again. If we were prompted by a child, they would ask the question “Why?” And in spite of being older and wiser we have no idea what the answer is! Would you like to start and observe your thoughts and decide which ones to take notice of and which ones to release? Next time you have a repetitive unpleasant thought; notice what is going on with your body as well as your mind. Where can you feel it? Is there a restriction in your stomach, throat or head? Or somewhere else? Take a breath, let it go and on the next breath, breathe into the restriction and let it go. Repeat a few times until you feel the tension decrease. Well done you are on your way!
