EXPLORING

Dear Editor, Myself and Husband are quite new to the area, we are both Doctor and Nurse and have worked rather relentlessly this passed year so haven’t had as much time as we’d have like to explore the area. We’ve been receiving your Seaside News magazines every month, which are absolutely brilliant. It inspired me to go out and take some pictures with my pup as a way to explore the area. So far I have been to Rest Bay, Kenfig Nature Reserve and Margam Park. I thought I could send you the pictures of any of them would be appropriate at all for the Photograph section - I’ve titled them The Four Legged Explorer.

SWIMMING IN THE SEA TO HELP MENTAL HEALTH

Dear Editor, Newton Buoyant Bluetits get together everyday and take a dip in the sea (following the tide timetable). The group gets larger every week and the feeling of euphoria once you have achieved this cold-water swim is so exhilarating. It is well organised we are all made aware of the risks and everyone looks out for each other. We sing we shout and we certainly have a good laugh.

PLANET EARTH

Dear Editor, Following a week on Social media, television and the press etc regarding Action Climate Week. I hold my hat up to being a hoarder keen recycler and could find use for most things, this trait of mine comes after many years of running a Preschool Nursery for many years in the past on limited finances this helped to shape me but it wouldn’t suit everyone. The world’s population is presently full of innovative ideas now in helping to reduce Co2 emissions and racing to Save our Planet. My husband and I have taken three or five grand children to Country Parks and Indoor Play Centers usually with a picnic but always using our own drinks bottles for the children individually and not buying more Plastic bottles. Also we now use soap and not liquid soap so that’s another bottle dispensed with, we hope to do much more to cut our Carbon footprint and respect our amazing Planet.

A VOICE FOR THE FUTURE PORTHCAWL

Dear Editor, This last month we have been engaged in several meetings/ discussions and the feedback received from each engagement has been very positive and encouraging. We have met with local groups ‘Shout’ and ‘The Porthcawl Civic Trust’, presented to full council and engaged with Sarah Murphy and her Dragons Den event at the Hi Tide. Our focus has been on encouraging written objections regarding the Statement of Reason/compulsory purchase orders - we hope our template letter helped? The primary objective is always to ensure that an area of sufficient size and suitability is both retained in public ownership and is protected from permanent types of development. Our vision is to then focus on the development of this land and ensure that it meets the community, environmental and future generations’ needs, relevant to this town, the borough, and its many visitors. Hopefully you all visited one of BCBC’s drop-in sessions at the Pavilion and you are now busy preparing your written feedback on what it is you were encouraged/discouraged by. It is certainly our priority to do so. As a united community we truly believe that we can make a real difference for our future generations and ourselves and so please, please do positively engage at any given opportunity that presents and have a VOICE.

PORTHCAWL FOODBANK - THANK YOU

Dear Editor, I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported the Bridgend Foodbank and Porthcawl Foodbank donations 2021 this year. We had 73 donators and filled a garage of toiletries! The donations will now be sorted and collected by the Foodbank and given to families in Porthcawl and Bridgend in time for Christmas. Toiletries are expensive to buy and a luxury for the families who use the bank. I am absolutely delighted that the people of Porthcawl, yet again, showed such kindness and generosity. The sense of community was so wonderful and it makes me proud of our town. Thank you to the original group of donors who didn’t think twice about joining us again this year and to our new members; it was so lovely to have you be part of it! I could not have done it without the amazingly organised Hollie, Trish and Gill from the Foodbank and the lovely team who gave their time collecting the donations from Porthcawl, Kenfig Hill, Tythegston to Maudlam; James owner of Nottage Stores for offering his van and time to collect with Joe, Stephanie, Alan. Thank you Porthcawl. If you’d like to be part of our next event please join our Facebook group, Porthcawl Foodbank Donations 2021. If you are in need of help please visit https://bridgend.foodbank. org.uk or contact info@bridgend.foodbank.org.uk 01656 750016.

THE FISHMONGER’S CAT

A very Happy 5th Birthday to The Fishmonger’s Cat of John Street, Porthcawl. Unbelievably, it was 5 years ago, on November 2nd 2016 when Emma opened the doors to the become the only independent fishmonger between Swansea and Cardiff. Specialising in all things fishy, we have daily deliveries of fresh fish and shellfish. Including favourites such as cod, hake, haddock, plaice and salmon with a wide selection of the best seasonal fish. Our fish is sourced mainly in the UK, landed from day boats to encourage sustainable fishing. We have established a reputation for our homemade fish and seafood dishes, the range of which we continue to expand. All our ready meals are made on the premises using fresh ingredients, which we source locally wherever possible. Our Saturday take-away special has become a great success, changing each week. It is a great option for those looking for a weekend takeaway with a difference. We also cater for special occasions with our paella and seafood platters. Available to order, ideal for celebrations with family and friends. For those who are house bound or isolating, we deliver around Porthcawl, Newton & Nottage.
