Paddle blades made from diapers? Yup. Because it’s time for a change. Introducing our new Recycled Fibrlite™ composite blades. Made from post manufacturing (pre baby) diaper scraps, these blades are the first high performance blades using recycled material, and by keeping that material out of the landfill we’re doing our part to change the world, one blade at a time.

KIALOA SHAFT TECHNOLOGIES

Carbon/Epoxy Foam Core technology allows us to make rigid, light strong blades with complex shapes. Internal edgebanding provides excellent durability to blade edges, and our proprietary one-step construction process allows us to hand lay our graphics into the blade. Blades are available with graphics or with the classic 282 carbon fiber weave finish. Each Carbon/ Epoxy blade is handmade in the USA.

Carbon Shafts- Carbon shafts have the highest strength to weight ratio, producing the stiffest shafts, which translates into high energy transfer during the paddle stroke. The limitation to very stiff shafts is that they can be hard on tendons and joints.

Fibrlite™ is a material made of continuous long-strand carbon fiber or fiberglass. Through proprietary manufacturing processes, fiberglass or carbon fiber is impregnated with a polypropylene resin, bonding the fibers together. Fibrlite™ technology has allowed KIALOA to create a paddle blade with excellent strength to weight ratio, while keeping the paddle affordable. Fibrilite has incredible impact strength, which allows KIALOA to build light weight, high performance, affordable paddles with exceptional durability. KIALOA’s Nylon Reinforced Fiberglass injection molded blade brings entry level pricing to the KIALOA line. The nylon/fiberglass layup was designed to maximize rigidity and durability.

Fiberglass Shafts- Fiberglass shafts have higher impact strength than carbon shafts, are less expensive than carbon, but weigh more and have a lower strength to weight ratio. Fiberglass shafts are more flexible than carbon or blended shafts. They are very comfortable but are less efficient than a carbon or blended shaft in terms of energy transfer. Carbon/Fiberglass Blends- The blending of the attributes of carbon and fiberglass produces a shaft with moderate flex. The goal of the blended shaft is balancing the positive characteristics of each material, producing a comfortable shaft with good energy transfer.
