The Symphony’s very first concert, in December 1903, featured the brilliant “Unfinished” Symphony of Schubert. Selections from Wagner’s Götterdämmerung were a highlight of the concert that opened Benaroya Hall 25 years ago.

Encouraged by the Soviets in 1945 to compose a victory symphony, Shostakovich responded with his Ninth: a work filled with sardonic humor and a lightness that conceals the nightmare of global conflict and suffering. The exciting soloist Randall Goosby, who “plays like an angel with nothing to prove” (Los Angeles Times), provides the light of reason in Mozart’s Third Violin Concerto. Rounding out the program is a 1952 work by the long-overlooked Julia Perry.

Darius Milhaud’s Suite for Violin, Clarinet and Piano was taken from Jean Anouilh’s 1937 play, Le voyageur sans bagage (The Traveler Without Luggage). The Trio by Aram Khachaturian features classical music with folk-inspired rhythms and melodies. Mendelssohn’s self-assured Piano Trio in C minor is the composer’s final chamber work.

Student/Senior Tickets: Student and Senior discount tickets may be purchased to most performances, subject to availability, starting two hours prior to performance start time. In-person sales only.

Children: Children 5 years of age and older are welcome at all performances. Children of all ages are welcome at Family Concerts and Tiny Tots performances. All children must have tickets.

Location: Benaroya Hall is located in downtown Seattle, bounded by Union and University streets, and by Second and Third avenues. Public entrances are along Third Avenue.

Refunds and Exchanges: Please note that all single-ticket purchases are non-refundable and non-exchangeable. Only subscribers may exchange their tickets.

Facility Fee: Tickets include a $5 facility fee for the preservation of Benaroya Hall. This fee is waived for children’s concerts.

The S. Mark Taper Foundation Auditorium is the main auditorium for most Seattle Symphony performances and has a capacity of 2,500 seats.

ILLSLEY BALL NORDSTROM RECITAL HALL

The Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall is designed for chamber groups and other smaller ensembles, and has a capacity of 540 seats.

OCTAVE 9: RAISBECK MUSIC CENTER

Octave 9: Raisbeck Music Center offers an immersive environment with state-of-the-art acoustic and projection systems; seating capacity varies by program.
