WELCOME TO OUR COMMUNITY! From the sparkling waters of Puget Sound to the grassy Union Green on campus, Seattle surrounds you with the beauty of nature and the excitement of a big city. Seattle University is located in the vibrant Capitol Hill neighborhood, home to worldclass restaurants, lively nightlife, independent bookstores, and plenty of coffee shops. Downtown Seattle is just over the hill, while countless outdoor adventures – featuring magnificent coasts, forests, and mountains – are a short drive away. Dozens of student organizations help you connect with classmates and develop your legal interests, whether it’s real estate or international human rights. These groups host events throughout the year, including mock trial competitions, networking socials, alumni celebrations, and even a karaoke night. Camaraderie is a hallmark of our law school. Your classmates will be your biggest supporters and your friends for life.

“Students at Seattle U are genuinely interested in the success of their peers and future colleagues, and I really value the culture here for that reason.” ALI HARRIS, CLASS OF 2022

Why? › Innovative curriculum allows you to help real clients in the first year and take unique upper-division electives. › Faculty are nationally recognized experts in legal writing. › Students receive one-on-one attention and coaching. › Integrated skills courses and sequenced assignments build mastery of skills. law.seattleu.edu/legalwriting

LEARN BY DOING Along with rigorous classroom instruction, you’ll have ample hands-on opportunities to strengthen your advocacy skills. › The Ronald A. Peterson Law Clinic, one of the country’s top 15 clinical programs, is a pro bono law firm within the school. Students represent clients with real cases under a professor’s supervision. Clinics focus on immigration, workers’ rights, and trademark law, among others. › Our wide-ranging Externship Program places you with an advocacy organization, government office, or court to engage in legal work for clients for law school credit.

Our Semester in Olympia program takes you where the action is; you’ll learn from legislators and policy makers in the state’s picturesque capital. Spend a summer or your third year at our Alaska Law Campus for an unforgettable legal adventure.

› Four student-run law journals help you improve your writing skills and research techniques while instilling self-discipline and analytical proficiency. › Activities such as moot court, mock trial, alternative dispute resolution, and client counseling competitions provide simulated legal experiences that develop important skills. law.seattleu.edu/clinic

PUT YOUR EDUCATION TO WORK

Our law school has the most extensive alumni network in the Pacific Northwest. Our graduates are defenders, prosecutors, and judges. They are partners at large and small firms. No matter where you practice after graduation, you’ll find our alumni, and they’ll be ready to welcome you into this helpful community of legal professionals. › Counselors in our Center for Professional Development care as much about your legal career as you do and will work with you one-on-one to ensure your success. Their support includes:

“The Center for Professional Development has been incredibly supportive toward helping me secure legal experience opportunities as well as preparing me for post-graduate career success through resume review, mock interviews, and networking opportunities.” JULIE BOWMAN, CLASS OF 2022

ADVOCATE FOR JUSTICE Our Jesuit tradition infuses your legal education with a sense of purpose and a call to action. Seattle U Law’s core social justice mission is reflected in our clinics, curriculum, student organizations, and centers. The Fred T. Korematsu Center for Law and Equality combats discrimination and trains the next generation of advocates. Significant projects have included racial justice in education, improving the quality of public defense, homeless rights advocacy, and civil rights protections for immigrants. Students play a key role in all of these efforts through the Korematsu Center’s Civil Rights Clinic. law.seattleu.edu/korematsu The Access to Justice Institute supports the law school’s social justice mission with programs for students and alumni. ATJI coordinates our award-winning Moderate Means Program, spearheads an innovative Incubator Program for new attorneys, and matches students with skillbuilding volunteer opportunities to help underserved communities. The Public Interest Law Foundation helps students fulfill their passion for helping others by awarding summer grants for unpaid internships at nonprofit organizations and government agencies.

YOUR SUCCESS IS OUR MISSION Our acclaimed Access Admission Program creates a path to a rewarding legal career for students from historically disadvantaged and underrepresented communities. We believe that the potential of these students is better measured by their grit and intellectual curiosity than by test scores and GPAs. Our robust Academic Resource Center (ARC) offers support and tools – including workshops, study sessions, and individual counseling – to help all students succeed. Despite the rigors of law school, ARC can help you build confidence that you belong in the legal profession. law.seattleu.edu/arc
