Entwood Golf Course Entwood Golf Course, a self-proclaimed “sporty nine hole mature golf course” sits on gently rolling hills with trees, ponds, flowering shrubs and gardens in Holcombe, WI. The course boasts a clubhouse, membership & league options, and both pull & gas carts. Meghan Bitney also offers private lessons for novice & avid golfers alike! In 2008 the economy was failing in Illinois where Kim & Joan Haas lived, and the couple found Kim’s career as an painter falling by the wayside. After finding the gold course online, they came to visit in the dead of winter. Despite not knowing a single soul in Northern Wisconsin, they took the plunge to own their own business & haven’t looked back. The Haas’s are proud of the community & course they’ve built, including their steady flow of charity golf tournaments & their signature hole #5. Joan says “owning a golf course in the Midwest is nice as they have the winter or a good 4 months to regroup & connect with their family” and like many of their customers, soak in some rest & relaxation in a warmer climate. After 13 years, the Hass’ love their customers, and Joan says “seeing their children grow up and reconnecting every year
is very fulfilling”. After their move from Illinois, life in the Northwoods of Wisconsin is a great fit for the lifestyle they’ve craved, and the great golfing community in Holcombe is just the cherry on top. The course is open 7 days a week from 7:00 AM until dusk for all your social & sporting needs, and Entwood will be involved in four different community based golf tournaments this summer. One of the highlights is sure to be the Holcombe Area Veterans Memorial 9 Hole Golf Tournament at Entwood, which will raise funds for a new memorial which has begun construction near downtown Holcombe. The Hass’s hope you’ll join in the fun the summer, and make new memories at Entwood! Find out more information at their website, facebook page or call 715-595-4035.
Recycled Golf Balls Are Big Business
I
f you golf odds are you are one of the many that lose the golf ball…….sometimes several, in the course of a game. As they just disappear into the ozone, it makes one wonder where they go? Do the math: If 500 million rounds were played in the US last year, calculating one lost ball for every round played, the possible net loss of 500 million at a buck a ball ( on the cheap side) is a huge ton of cash. And recycling them is big business,,,figure a 100 million a year, not counting balls actually found by the golfer, those ruined by mowers, and those hit and found by ambitious kids working the grounds. Remarkably, the players do it again and again!!!!! Shaun Shienfield- “Golf balls are the drug that feeds the golf addiction so many are hooked on,” says Shaun Shienfield, the President of Foundgolfballs.com, which recovers, processes, and resells millions of balls to golfers every year across North America. Foundgolfballs contracts mostly in US, the majority coming from water hazards with 99% having a resale value after being cleaned, sorted and grated, rather
like eggs. And if you are willing to pay for a specific brand you will be pleased to find them. With such a large host of available balls and buyers, with the pandemic, sales on the internet soared as buying habits changed. It does give one a whole new appreciation for the lost, or found, golf ball business. “Some golfers say they would never play with a used or recycled ball. To those golfers we ask, ‘Do you put a new ball down on the course every shot?’ After all, once a ball is hit once it’s now a used golf ball,” Shienfield says, before adding with a chuckle, “If they still insist that used golf balls are not for them, we send them a thank you note as being one of our suppliers.” Source: https://www.linksmagazine.com/golfsrecycled-ball-market/

A Round and a Whiskey I n 1873, John Michael Kohler founded the Kohler Co., a wellknown bath and kitchen products manufacturing company. Early employees were housed in a dormitory, The American Club, and were offered classes on English language skills and American citizenship. Over the decades, Kohler Co. prospered and The American Club and surrounding area was eventually turned into a boutique resort hotel location called Destination Kohler. Destination Kohler is most famous for its four top-100 golf courses, each designed by World Hall of Fame golf course architect Pete Dye. Golf Digest named River Course “best new public course” when it opened in 1988. At the time, it had a three-month lead for a tee time, so Dye built a second course called Meadow Valleys, which he designed to reflect the natural Wisconsin landscape. The Straits Course is nestled along two miles of open and rugged Lake Michigan shoreline. The Irish Course with its quiet streams has been described as deceivingly tranquil. The incredible golf courses at Destination Kohler have made history time and again. Two U.S Women’s Opens, a U.S. Senior Open, and three PGA Championships have been played on these beautiful greens and fairways. Perhaps most exciting of all, this September, The Straits will become the first public course in over a quarter-century to host the Ryder Cup. Needless to say, to play here is an amazing experience. A round of golf on any of these prestigious courses deserves a celebratory meal and drink to go with it. The American Club
resort, a five-star, five-diamond hotel, houses The Immigrant Restaurant. Six different rooms in this restaurant pay homage to the original settlers of early Wisconsin: French, Dutch, German, Normandy, Danish and English. Jackets are required for gentlemen, so don’t forget yours when you make your reservation. Adjacent to The Immigrant Restaurant, you can find award winning wines and spirits in The Winery Bar. Choose from nearly 1000 different wines, all rated 90 and above by Wine Spectator. The Winery Bar is also highly revered for its selection of nearly 400 varieties of whiskey. From one of three annual releases of George T. Stagg bourbon at $39 for a two-ounce pour to a Macallan 1985 or 1989 Scottish single malt at $1500 a pour, there is definitely something for everyone on the shelf here. If your interests expand beyond golf and fine dining, Destination Kohler won’t disappoint. Other activities include a five star spa experience, 500 acres of wilderness with hiking trails and biking paths, and yoga and sports core fitness programs. This is the perfect place to relax and enjoy your day from beginning to end. Destination Kohler is definitely one to add to your list. It is truly a destination worth experiencing. Stay for a Drink The Whistling Straights’ The American Club and it’s bartender has built a 400 strong bottle collection that will make Bourbon and Scotch lovers swoon! Offerings include Old Fitzgerald 15-year or the AH Hirsch Reserve distilled in 1974, which costs $245 for a two-ounce pour—more than a round of golf! Or if your taste is more refined and so is your wallet, you can always go bigger with a Macallan 1985 and Macallan 1989, will set you back as much as $1,500 a pour. That said, there are lesser-priced gems to be enjoyed, including Bruichladdich’s Black Art ($72), Glenmorangie Signet ($64), and Laphroaig Lore ($38).
No matter what you prefer, The American Club and Winery Bar will NOT dissapoint! 419 Highland Dr, Kohler, WI | destinationkohler.com
10 Surprising Golf Facts You Haven’t Heard Before Golf is a ‘gentlemen’s’ game with rules, regulations, wardrobe and the joy of competing and connecting in the great outdoors. If you love golf then you probably like a bit of golf trivia. So here goes: Golf Was Banned 3 times in Scotland between 1457 and 1744 due to a notion that it interfered with military training. Golf Was Invented in Scotland in 1457, played publicly at first, but then courses and clubs were created. Tiger Woods, one of the world’s most amazing golfers made His First Hole-in-One at 8 yrs. old. His interested started when he was but six months old, his dad started teaching him at age 2. He won 81 PGA Tournaments Other impressive wins: Sam Snead has won 82 tournaments. Jack Nicklaus falls only slightly behind with 73 wins. Phil Mickelson Is Right-Handed. Try writing with your non dominant hand to see how difficult it would be to golf with your opposite hand. It’s difficult, isn’t it? That’s what Phil Mickelson does. He learned from his dad, who was left handed. Most Golfers Will Never Have a Handicap Under 18. They play at a handicap of 4 and 6.As most golfers are hobbyist, these handicaps are still super. The First Round of Women’s Golf Was played in 1811. Golf is full of misogyny. It took 400 years for women to play the first round in Musselburgh, Scotland. In 1867 they got their own club design. There’s a 12,500 to 1 Chance of Making a Hole-in-One. So relax if you can’t make one, you are playing against the odds. Golf Balls Were originally wet feathers and wrapped around leather. This was a timeconsuming process. Also -not so reliable. They morphed into a wooden product which was standard for other games using stick and balls. It is thought golf balls were wooden (14-17century) before modern golf ball manufacturing methods were adopted. Source: https://www.pantherrungolfclub.com/blog/33-surprising-golf-facts
Can CBD Improve Your Game? I n golf, CBD can help you both physically and mentally, which makes it extremely powerful tool for your long game.
How many times have you been on the golf course and the game feels easy? All you need is a few pars to finish with a career round, but then you start thinking – too much! And let’s be real, lot of mistakes because of the stress and sometimes doubt that enters consciousness. When you use CBD, it keeps you from overthinking and helps you keep the stress in control. There are many aspects that CBD can be beneficial to in regard to your mind, including: • Getting a better night’s rest • Reducing anxious feelings • Balancing your mood • Relieving stress • Enhancing clarity and focus • Promoting a sense of calmness
However, as old pathways breakdown, new ones are formed throughout your life. The abundance of these new pathways is determined by how you have taken care of your brain. And did you know your amazing brain can regenerate by making new connections and creating new neurons that help your mind grow and repair itself. CBD is an external compound that can assist this process, speed up the timeline of growth and promote possible growth, while fighting off issues that may affect the growth of the brain.
Over time, your brain takes damage from the decisions you make, like thinking about how you ALWAYS slice the ball on a certain hole.
Taking CBD regularly can help promote this process, which is great for trying to learn new ways to play golf and manage your mind around the course. While it’s not guaranteed for everyone, it’s something that is easy to try with a big upside if it works well for you.
Golf Through the Pages There are not too many golf books oriented toward children let alone excellent ones, but this one tells a true underdog story! The book tells the story of the 1913 U.S. Open when 20-year-old amateur, Francis Ouimet, [pronounced we-met ] and his 10-year- old caddie, Eddie Lowery, shocked the golf world; a “feel good” saga of a young man and a boy showing unbelievable maturity to win the U.S. Open. In front of nine thousand spectators, the young 10-year-old calms the nerves of his player to beat (by several strokes to spare) two of the finest golf professionals of their era — Harry Vardon and Ted Ray. The illustrations in the book are outstanding. Unusual, artistic, emotive — the four- color illustrations convey the flavor of the era and the humble upbringings of Ouimet and Lowery. Among the top golf good reads: • Extraordinary Golf: The Art Of The Possible By Fred Shoemaker • Dave Pelz’s Short Game Bible By Dave Pelz

The Health Benefits of Golf – Is Golf Good Exercise? olf is a gentlemen’s game. No other ‘game’ offers sport, cardio, relaxation and mental health by chasing a small white ball with a metal stick. And golf is just great fun, no matter what level you indulge, regardless of any of the built in frustration. A pro with serious game can have just as much fun as a clumsy teenager with borrowed clubs.
G
Other Benefits of Golf? • Golf is a good workout for the buttocks, lower back and abs. • It improves core muscles and balance giving you more strength, mobility and flexibility. • It offers a low risk of injury. • It eeduces back pain and muscle strain.
Does Golf Equal Exercise? Yup, it is. No matter how well you play.
Mental Health Benefits Good mental health is a byproduct of golf in addition to the exercise, fresh air, and company. It requires focus, decision making, attention to detail and an awareness of the other players. The vitamin D one gets outdoors is just an added bonus.
To Walk or Take a Cart? It is not hard to see the merits of a good walk, but the carts have become so darn cool to ‘bop’ around in. The cart allows for a faster game and make it easier for some to enjoy the game. How Much Exercise Can I Get From a Round of Golf? Golf offers both cardiovascular and strength exercise. A full round normally equates to 3.8 miles but not all walking will be done in a straight line. FYI: hills and inclines on the course. Golf is a full workout. The benefits to your heart and lungs as you use big muscles are excellent. Though it does not take a major effort to swing a club 80 to 100 times plus lifting the bag, the sum total effort will work multiple muscles.
Social Activity. As social creatures, golf gets you connected to folks providing an interaction that is invaluable. Will You Burn Calories Playing Golf? You will burn roughly 1,400 to 1,600 calories during a round of golf if you walk. If you use a cart you will burn roughly 800 to 900. If combined with other exercise and a healthy diet, golf, will help to keep you supple, fit and trim and can be enjoyed for many years. Source: https://www.golfspan.com/is-golf-good-exercise

How to Hit a Long Drive in Estate Planning I n golf, you need patience and concentration to hit a ball 300 yards or more straight down the fairway. Similarly, when it comes to estate planning, you must look straight out into the future and utilize specific strategies in order to provide as much tax-advantaged wealth as possible for successive generations. Good communication and timing are crucial in creating an optimal estate plan. Be sure to extend invitations for family meetings during non-hectic times to reduce any potential stress that can arise during conversations about money and inheritance, topics that have come to the forefront during the pandemic. The hard-but-necessary conversations you need to have with your parents and children about finances, final wishes and wealth transfer can make all the difference to a successful outcome with no surprises to pile on top of your family during a time of grief. know what their plans are for here their money and assets will go, what their desires are for burial, cremation and/ or final services, and where all their important paperwork and files are located.
