DETERIORATION OF FAMILY LIFE IN AMERICA… EVEN THE CHURCH---WHY? (Psalm 68:3-6)

I CAN LIVE RIGHTEOUSLY BECAUSE I AM RIGHT WITH GOD THROUGH FAITH! The Call to Worship-----------------------------Lyceum Council of Elders The Hymn of Rejoicing -------------------------------Gathered Assembly

Sons and Daughters of God’s Family, The Bible says, “God sets the solitary in families; He brings out those who are bound into prosperity; But the rebellious dwell in a dry land” (Psalm 68:6). The Word of the Lord is clear. We are told that God makes a home for the lonely. The rebellious people died in the wilderness, rather than entering Canaan at God’s direction. That generation had forgotten the blessing of the Lord upon their forefathers, so the good Lord withheld His blessings from them. As it was with the rebellious Israelites, so it is with this wayward generation of fathers and mothers today. Dr. Maya Angelou, wrote: “Black Family Reunion Pledge!” “Because we have forgotten our ancestors our children no longer give us honor. Because we have lost the path of our ancestors cleared, kneeling in perilous undergrowth, our children cannot find their way. Because we have banished the God of our ancestors, our children cannot pray. Because the long wails of our ancestors have faded beyond our hearing, our children cannot hear us crying. Because we have abandoned our wisdom of mothering and fathering, our befuddled children give birth to children they neither want nor understand. Because we have forgotten how to love, t e adversary is within our gates, and holds us up to the mirror of the world, shouting--“Regard the loveless.” Therefore, we pledge to bind ourselves to one another; To embrace our lowliest, To keep company with our loneliest, To educate our illiterate, To feed our starving, To clothe our ragged, To do all the good things, knowing that we are more than keepers of our brothers and sisters. We are our brothers and sisters. In honor of those who toiled and implored God with golden tongues, and in gratitude to the same God who brought us out of hopeless desolation we make this pledge.” This written expressly for the National Council of Negro Women Black Family Reunion Celebration May 14, 1986. Dr. Maya Angelou. I encourage the saints of the Christian Church to return to the old ways laid out in the Holy Scriptures for us to follow and not be found guilty of abandoning the old righteous ways of our ancestors. How? By returning to the path proclaimed for the people of God. Let us recapture the prayer life that guided them through the years and show our children and grandchildren the way out of darkness of this age. Amen.
